  2. Hey guys. So I decided it was time to take the ol' pc apart and give it a good cleaning, and after reassembling it it would post and boot, but after getting to the login screen it would lock up and I would get a dram error (amber light flashing near the ram slot) on my motherboard after a few seconds. I tried moving ram stick around, only one stick, every slot, one slot, reseating the cpu, reseating the ram, and clearing cmos. I can stay in the bios as long as I want, and all the ram shows up there, but as soon as I try to boot to the os, the system gets unhappy. After I reset the cmos, I noticed that(only for a second) the system thought there was 3 keyboards plugged in when I only had one keyboard and a mouse. Anyone have any ideas what happened and how to fix it? My build: Mobo: Asus b350 f gaming Cpu: ryzen 2600x Ram: Corsair dominator platinum cmd16gx4m4a2800c16
  3. My girlfriend is running a ryzen r5 1500 with that gpu. It seems to be a pretty good pair.
  4. Long story short, the pump on my 980ti hybrid died so i got a aftermarket heatsink and some case fans to keep it cool, and it works great! (And i think it looks really cool too) but the weight of the heatsink and fans is causing the card to sag a fair amount and its making me nervous, so i decided a virtical mount would be the best solution to take the strain off the motherboard. I know a few vendors sell adapters, but they take up all the other slots and i need at least one more for my wireless card. The only other solution would be to diy something together, and i dont want to do that if i can buy something pourpose made.
  5. A pretty simple question. I am running a asus b350-f mobo and it only supports crossfire. If i were to get another graphics card of the same model (980ti) would i be able to use crossfire to run a multi gpu setup. I know sli will not work because of pci express limitations.
  6. Long story short, i bought a used 980ti hybrid from someone in craigslist. plugged it in and played a round of battlefield 1 and the card ran fine. high frame rates and everything else. so i decided to try to overclock it. I used evga's precision x and maxed the power target and bumped the core clock up 40mhz. rebooted and it was sitting at 60C at idle. i thought it was the software being wrong, but after staring a game, the card throttled and after roughly 30sec. the screen went black and the system shut off. I rebooted and set everything back to stock, but the card is still overheating and still shows 60c at idle and maxing out at 90C under load. anyone have any ideas?
  7. Long story short, I have the opportunity to buy 5 used 180gb intel pro 1500 ssd's for $160 USD. Is it a good idea (and value) to snag these drives and run them in raid? I would use them only for games and a plex server, so nothing too important.
  8. Long story short, I'm building a system soon, and a little research shows that I can get a used 980ti for a price that is between that of a new 1060 and a new 1070. I would like your opinion on what I should get based on price to performance. I'll be gaming at 1080p.
  9. Buying bulk is fine. I'm planing on doing a lot of this kind of stuff
  10. Hello all. Short version: I need to buy cheap digital logic ( and, or, not, nand, nor, xor). Where is the best place for this? Longer version: i am planning on building a simple, 2 or 4 bit, alu/cpu for an electronics club at college. I really want to make it out of discrete logic (other than memory). I know that this is "the hard way" and it will be "a lot of soldering" but that is part of the fun. Let me know what you think and if you want updates on the project.
  11. I think that it would be a great idea to do a competition for "Best FPS per cubic inch". In other words, see what the best mini itx build they could do on the cheap also considering that itx cases aren't entirely popular and the general formula for a successful build is "Get the meanest graphics card you can find with a quad core cpu" and i think it would be interesting to see them trying to balance a cpu with integrated graphics versus getting that as thin as possible and building a more conventional machine with dedicated graphics in a small space. Let me hear what you guys think!
  12. 1. I'll have to look into something like that 2. Thank you. I like to think that I am funny 3. I don't know but they are paying me well for it so who really cares!
