  1. So as the title suggests, i want to add a second monitor to my setup. I have literally no requirements except it being 1080p 16:9, being able to rotate, and being relatively cheap ~$100. So far, all i've found have been $250+ monitors from a few years ago. Does anyone still make rotating monitors? Or should i buy a cheap 1080p monitor and buy a vesa mount for it? Thanks, Lukas
  2. Hi All, I'm looking for an ultrabook for school and some personal programming work. I've narrowed my search down to 2 devices; the Dell XPS 13 9380 and MacBook Pro 13". The XPS is the model with 16gb of RAM, a 512gb SSD, the i7 8765u and the 1080p non-touch display, costing me about $1500. The MacBook Pro is the 4 thunderbolt port 2019 model, with the i5 8257u, 16gb of RAM, and 256gb SSD, which will cost me about $2000. I understand that the MacBook is the better device in regards to build quality, trackpad, keyboard, screen, and speakers, but is it $500-600 better? What do you guys think, and any other suggestions are also appreciated. Thanks, Lukas
  3. Hi All, I'm looking for a laptop to use for the next 2-3 years or so. I'm primarily going to be using it for a combination of general school crap (documents, powerpoints, email, etc.), programming, and running some reasonably graphically intensive applications. I'm not saying i need a 2080ti in my 3mm ultrabook, but if possible, an mx150 or a 1050 would be nice to have. However, i'd prioritize quiet operation over beefy performance, and asthetics are also important to me, as i'll be using it in a reasonably professional setting, so no T H I C C gaming laptops. Mostly i've been considering the Dell XPS 13/15, and (as much as i hate to admit it), the 2019 MBP. The XPS 13 seems to be the sexier of the three devices, though the least powerful of the 3 listed above. It's also the smallest. The XPS 15 is the most powerful (6 core CPU, 1050), but is heavier and larger (being a 15" device, which i'd rather not take) The MBP seems to be the best balance of the two, featuring a nice design, good thermals, and good performance. However, it's a bit more expensive and i've traditionally been a windows guy. Any thoughts? I'm open to comments on the above and any other recommendations Thanks in advance! -Lukas
  4. Hi All, My current phone (an Honor 8), has been exhibiting some battery and performance issues recently, and with the smartphone season upon us, I'd like to buy a new phone. However, I'm having some trouble finding a phone that I'd enjoy using that would fit my criteria. One of the criteria would be that the phone would last me 3ish years, or more as after that time I'll be off to uni, and I doubt that money will be very plentiful at that time. Secondly, I'd like the screen to be either a very, very good LCD, or preferably an OLED, with ideally no notch, though if the only thing that doesn't fit is the notch, well, I guess I'll get used to it. Sort of fitting with the display is the battery, I want it to last at least 4h of screen on time, and the whole day's worth of use. Also about the display, I prefer smaller phones, under 6" of display ideally. I also take a lot of photos with my phone, so the camera should be at least 'good'. Finally, I want the software to be clean and have as little bloatware as possible. I'll be buying sim-free and in Europe, so I can get most if not all devices here. Price wise, hit me with it, I don't care. I'm looking for a flagship experience, and thus I have to be OK with a flagship price. I've avoided mentioning brands because I want to be as objective as possible, Instead of being emotionally attached to an OS or a brand, which is something I do too much and let it get in the way of purchasing good phones from other companies. If you can, please tell me as many phones that you know that even loosely fit my categories, thanks. -Lukas
  5. That's why i don't want the ryzen 7 one that comes with a 256gb ssd .-.
  6. Hi all, I've been looking for a laptop for a while, finally settling with the HP Envy x360 13z 13" (with ryzen). A family member is going to the US the week of the 24th (24/9/2018 - 28/9/2018), and i wanted to pick up the laptop there, not only due to price but also because i prefer a US keyboard layout. However, i seem to be unable to find the specific version i want. Im looking for the ryzen 5 2500u + 16gb ram version with a 256gb ssd, or at least the ryzen 5 2500u + 256gb ssd. I've checked amazon, newegg, best buy, and just a standard google, but to no avail. If anyone knows anywhere i can buy it where it will ship to boston by that week, i'd greatly appreciate any help -Lukas [edit - specified 13" model]
  7. Hello All, As the title suggests, I'm looking for a thin & light laptop In the $700 range, with a screen size of 13-14", packing at least a quad core CPU. Ideally, a Ryzen 5 2500U, though if not, I'd need at least an mx150/gt940mx. I've looked over lots of models, but the ones that looked good to me were either too expensive (XPS 15), no GPU (XPS 13), or not available in Europe (Matebook D 14"). Any alternatives would be great, thanks -Lukas
  8. Hi All, As the title suggests, I am wondering wether the 14" Ryzen 5 2500U - powered Huawei Matebook will arrive to Europe, as it seems like basically the perfect laptop for me. Thanks -Lukas
  9. Hi all Over the last few weeks i've been doing my research on various laptops for both school and travel. However, i can't seem to find exactly what i'm looking for, and thus i turn here for help. I'm looking for a laptop in the $1000ish range (willing to go up to about 300 over, if worth it) that has a CPU that can handle some more advanced blender modeling + rendering. A GPU that can play games at 1080p60 (i don't mind medium/low setting) something like a 1050[ti] is fine. Upgradability, a good 1080p screen and decent battery life when doing basic tasks. Laptops that i've been looking at are the xps 15 and the Lg gram, but neither really fits Thanks in advance -Lukas
  10. 3 of us are in the same country, and all on the same continent, so unfortunately a cheap solution like what you suggested is not going to work
  11. Hey Guys, I've got a question. I'm looking for an easy way to share large files with a group of 4 people. By large, i mean large. Both UE4 files and the exports, each being above 5gb, along with videos, photos, and other files required for this project. I was wondering, having never done this sort of thing before, what the best option would be. The ones that i've heard of are as follows: Renting a server, or building a custom one. I've considered building something, because A: i love building and B: it seems cheaper than renting a server for the average rates of around 60$ a month, and C: If i need more storage in the future, i just gotta buy a new drive. Thanks a lot in advance -Lukas
  12. I'd say look into the ryzen 5 2400g on a mitx board, and plop that in a node 202 or similar.
  13. Hello all, I've had my ageing laptop for a little over 2 1/2 years now. Rocking a dual core i5 5200u and a gt 940m, it is far from the powerhouse i once thought it was. Having replaced it as my primary home gaming/productivity system with my ryzen build last summer, it has just been gathering dust in my drawer while at home, and on trips it's very bulky, heavy, and loud. I travel quite a bit, i'm usually away from home for 3 or 4 months of the year, either travelling for fun or visiting family, and i'm looking for a thin, light, and relatively quiet laptop. I do a lot of 3D modeling and graphic design, which is what pulled me to the xps 13 2018, having a quad core, 8 thread i5. I was wondering however, as an avid gamer, whether there are any laptops in this form factor, at the price of around the $1000 mark, that fit all these specifications with some sort of discrete GPU, it does't have to be dual 1080ti's in sli, but something like the mx 150 would be nice, though not necessary, i'm fine with the UHD 620, just looking to see if i can squeeze some more performance out of my budget. One last thing, i'd like it to look fairly proffesional, as i will be taking it to school and doing work on it. Thanks in advance, -Lukas
  14. Dell xps 15? Comes with a 1050, and costs about that of your budget, while looking (imo) sexy af.
  15. At that price, you'll get a much better system building it yourself, lemme see if i can come up with anything in that price -Lukas
  16. Works in a different outlet :D. Thanks a lot.
  17. Hello All, One of my friends has built a pc recently, and when he first put it together, it booted just fine, all the fans started spinning, and GPU lit up. Then, the next day, he did some cable management, and tried to boot it, and nothing happened. On the 3'rd day (today), he redid all the wiring, and it booted just fine. Then he put the side panels back on, and it didn't boot. He's tried rewiring it, but nothing seems to be working. He's not getting any debug led's, just the power led and the small led path on the left side of the mobo. Specs: - i7 7700k - Asus Strix z270H gaming - 16gb g.skill Ripjaws 5 - Be Quiet! Dark Rock 3 - 250gb samsung 850 EVO - 2tb seagate barracuda 7200rpm - EVGA GTX 1070 sc - EVGA Supernova 750 G2 I've tried to help him, but we've both run out of ideas and the internet is no use. Thank you in advance, -Lukas
  18. The PC is his, he built it, and it's at his house. We downloaded windows using this : https://www.microsoft.com/de-de/software-download/windows10ISO I did the same thing with my PC back in july, and it worked flawlessly. -Lukas
  19. Well. We have windows 10 pro installed at the moment.
  20. Hello all, About a week ago, i helped one of my friends ascend to the glorious PC Master Race. The build went fine, and posted almost immediately. We created a boot media device, and installed windows 10 1709 64-bit. However, after booting into Windows, we ran into the following issue. Every time he tries to run an executable file, he get's the following error. What we've tried : Reinstall of windows Going into bios and disabling safe boot Attempting to disable windows defender Allowing steam access I have no clue what to do, i've searched the internet multiple times, but nothing so far has worked. System specs are as follow: I7 7700k MSI z270 sli plus 16gb corsair vengeance ddr4 @2133 mhz Gigabyte Geforce Gtx 1070 windforce OC Corsair CX850X 2tb HDD from toshiba Corsair Carbide Spec - Alpha Thanks in advance, -Lukas
  21. Actually, a ryzen 5 1600 will do better at streaming then the 7700k, and the gaming experiance won't be bad either. As someone who owns one, there was never a moment when i wished for a better gaming experiance. -Lukas
