  4. The 7XL has a vertical GPU mount thingy which also can be used to solve HBA cooling problem. Here's how i did it: And, yes, the LSA 12-gig HBA will thermal throttle without cooling off. Ask me how i know... And, yes, i klnow that what i'm using is technically a RAID controller, not HBA - but i used HBA before and it was overheating as well. Interestingly - i'm using the same motherboard and the same case but because i DO use it as a VM/Compute server as well - i went and bought EPYC 7742. Which is currently also pretty cheap on Ebay (like sub-900 dollars for 64 cores/128 threads, which is nuts!).
  5. I just migrated from my dual Xeon Platinum 8268 to a Xeon W-3375 and i already making a singular Xeon Platinum 8468 workstation that will replace it. Xeons are good for me
  6. Ok, a small update, i was wondering if maybe 8468 is slower than my 8461V so i begged folks at the lab and they gave me one. It is in fact faster. So how the actual F were you able to score 67K on two of these if i can score 61K on just one? Supermicro motherboard, looser grade cooler, default settings - no overclocking, nothing. How? Do you guys even benchmark? Drag race? More like dragging down.
  7. Here's a cool idea for the "sidecar" module on 16in: how about an e-ink screen that can hold notifications from the PC even when there is no power? Like opening a laptop and it says "I'm not broken, you just forgot to charge me dumbass so battery is like dead dead, also your wife wants you to call her and good luck with your shitty rest of the day without me. 6:15am framework checking out".
  8. Responded under the video. The cringe of Linus handling Intel CPU absolutely incorrectly is beyond painful. There is a video on ServeTheHome channel on how to install the new Intel CPU properly: It works absolutely the same for LGA4677. There is a process. And there is a reason for that process. And Linus dripping thermal paste into the socket potentially killing the motherboard is one of the reasons. And what's up with your benchmarks? They are so bad! Here, i have just a single Xeon Platinum 8461V, the same number of cores and threads but lower turbo boost clock and significantly lower TDP (and my CPU was power restrained all the time): And you got what? +12% from adding a whole second CPU? Not mentioning that i only have 2 sticks of RAM in my system effectively reducing memory bandwidth by 75%. I do not think your score is correct at all.

  10. Hey, just wondering - why did not you made fun out of the pillow sizes and AMD processor names. Like market the smaller one as a wrist rest for mouse and call it HandRyzer. The medium size is CoachRipper and the biggest is something like EpycSize.

It works on a wide range of devices - from multi-cpu (i mean WAY more than 2 multicore processors) servers occupying the entire rack to the small Raspberry - and it uses the same set of development tools and the same interface, so you don't have to relearn. 2. It's FREE. You can't compete on the price/performance with something whose price is literally 0. You just can't. 3. Device support. Yes, long time ago it WAS a big issue, i remember myself backporting the Adaptec SCSI controller driver from DOS to Linux kernel 0.99 (yes, i'm that old and yes - i work with Linux for that much time). But now i find more and more cases when for some strange hardware it is easier to find driver for Linux than for Windows 10. Especially for the old or exotic stuff such as 40Gb/s fiber optic controllers - on Windows it is just "PCIe device". 4. Low footprint meaning it is a good thing to run on a low tier hardware plus it is excellent to be a VM host OS. 5. Big variety of file systems supported - including ZFS (and it is a huge deal). It is like having a RAID controller without paying for it. 6. You can do anything (and i mean ANYTHING) from command line meaning remote administration via tiny channel is actually possible. Plus it opens up possibility for a script automation like no other OS does.

  18. To hell with Threadripper. Epyc Rome FTW! 64 cores/128 threads Mini-ITX computer is what i really need. In DAN CaseS A4-SFX. With custom water cooling. Most epic sff pc ever!

I doubt that ASRock Rack will produce a gaming motherboard - that's main ASRock kitchen, maximum - they will produce workstation motherboards - and they already did, on both LGA3647 and TR4 platforms, with sound, many PCIe slots, multiple m.2 and such. But they are kind of boring (well, not exactly, i'm using ATX sized ASRockRack EPC621D8A as my open test bench where i play with all the hardware) but there is nothing special about them - everybody do it: Tyan, Supermicro - everybody. OTOH MiniITX boards for Xeon CPUs are rare beasts.
  20. There is no much sense in it. It would have to be configured in 4-channel mode anyways, the reason for 6 dimm slots is to utilize the 6-channel memory controller of Xeon Scalable series to get the maximum memory bandwidth. With 5 dimms it kind of defies the purpose.
  21. 2 more SO-DIMMS. Actually there is another board from ASRock with 6 memory slots and no M.2 slots - epc621d6i. Unfortunately there is no space due to the clearance with the motherboard tray to put both 2 dimms and m.2 slots on the back of it (or 4 dimms for that matter).   22. I already built similar machine using the previous generation of Xeon processor (E5-2699 v4) and ASrockRack motherboard (EPC612D4I). I built it in the CoolerMaster Elite 130 case using 120mm AIO cooler - and it works 24/7 for last year and a half as a test server for my cloud applications serving like 20 to 25 docker instances any given moment. All of that is while it takes virtually no space on my table and being so quiet that i do not notice it. So, yes, there are use cases for such boards.
  23. Absolutely! Unfortunately i have another use for all of my Platinum equipped systems, but these two guys (i have no idea who they are but they look confident enough for me) apparently did this. They did it with Xeon W-3175X, but it does not matter - it is the same process. So, yeah, C621 chipset is working just fine.
