I'd just do one 6-drive RAIDz2. That will let any two drives fail before your data is in jeopardy.

I already had the memory from another project, so I was planning on putting it in my system for the speed, RGB, and better timings/CL.  I decided against it ultimately though because my system already works fine so its ridiculous to move the fan risk performance, and that memory says its AMD optimized not intel (in theory it should work anyway though).  I'm just adding in an RGB strip for extra RGB.

I’m sure either would be fine for the HBA. I believe I personally run the first link you provided, but LSI cards are basically all the same.

Id get whatever mobo is cheapest that supports what you need it to support. Chipset doesn’t mean much for homelab, and overclocking isn’t part of the equation.

I run a melonox conectX2 card myself, with fiber transceivers for 10gigabit. I assume x3’s or even x4’s are cheap enough these days, and if you want to go to rj45 I’d look at fs.com. But I just go direct fiber from my NAS VM to my desktop, with connectx2’s in both.

For some consumer friendly cases that look good for rackmount, company called Sliger has some that fit all types of depths.  Kind of on the expensive side

Rosewill also has some cases that may fit the drives better.

I had the Airpods 3 and it's trash. The fit is indeed a problem. The sound is also not that good too so I returned it. I had the Airpods 2 and it's one of the most comfortable earbuds I had. I gave them to my sister as I got the Sony WF-XM4. She loves the comfort of the Airpods 2 too.

Ubiquiti sells a surge suppressor that you connect to ground to help protect your equipment. I believe it's about $15. They recommend them for their ptp products.

+1 to both. 850, 860, 870 Evos and Crucial MX500s (and 300s before that) in a bunch of work and my own personal machines, no issues. I have had one personal 250GB 860 Evo fail but that seems to have been a fluke, not a consistent issue with that line (all mass produced hardware is prone to fluke failures).

Thank you guys both for the input and sorry for the delayed reply.  I ultimately ended up getting the Original Prusa MK4.  The deciding factor really came down to the parts availability for the printer, the reputation of the brand, the ability to print with multiple different colors with the attachment you can buy from them, and the ability to buy the different accessories over time instead of all at once which gives me the ability to spread out the cost more over time instead of all at once.  It should arrive around July LOL.

    Thanks again!

You don't really need a heat sink for SSD, especially if it is only for gaming.
Unless you write and access huge amounts of data constantly, a heat sink won't do anything.
Any decent budget range SSDs would do just fine for gaming use.

I do NOT want a membrane feeling keyboard ever again.  The sample things to test the key switches seem a lil expensive for only a few keys.  Looking at this Cherry MX graph:

I think I want a Normal sounding keyboard, not one that is ridiculously loud, so that leaves me with the MX Brown, Black, or Red.  Any recommendations for those?

Just FYI, the mod mic can have the cable wrapped with a sleeve so it's basically just one cable.  I don't do that because I'm frequently changing headphones

Another reason to avoid built in mic's is that the shared ground can be more likely to provide feedback from input to output

It might work, but you are obviously operating outside the design specs. You don't have much to loose by trying it. If it were me I'd just buy the ubiquiti NanoSwitch it already has an enclosure and is only $40.

The ubiquiti switch flex is rated for your application at $99. I was going to recommend the NanoSwitch until I saw it was passive Poe which you probably don't want.

    The i3-10105F is a 4 Core, 8 Thread processor.
I wouldn't recommend still buying a Quad core. Games now get optimized for more than 4 cores because of the current gen 8 core PlayStation and Xbox.
I would buy a used Ryzen 3600 or 3700x. (also still gives you a good upgrade path)

Its from One by One I think is the company. Its just one of those $30ish flat antennas. Not really the best setup, but Im only about 21 miles from the transmitters.

If its only a media server (Plex/Emby/Jellyfin, and its eco system of apps torrent client, overseerr, sonarr, radarr, etc...) then the i5 12600K as well as a GTX 1650 are overkill.
    A few things to consider.

If you do get Plex Pass / Emby Premiere to be able to do hardware transcoding, then you can either use the integrated graphics on the CPU, or the Nvidia, you dont need both.
If you're going hardware transcoding, then you dont need the i5 either, you can use an i3 non-K sku.
The Z690 is overkill if you dont need a K SKU cpu and the extras.
32GB is a lot of memory for just a Plex Server...Plex uses hardly any memory.
4 x 8TB could be cheaper, than 6 x 4TB. Less drives to go wrong, cooler, less power, and easier to expand.
If you reduce the drives, you can also go with UnRAID Basic. You could of course save another $60 and go with TrueNAS Scale. You just will have less flexibility with adding more drives.

Consider something more like below (the 10TB's are on special @ NewEgg right now I assume youre using those SSDs in a mirror for Containers, VM's, etc...) :

Store 4k content and if you plan to transcode down to 1080p or 720p for mobile viewing or viewing on a screen that won't support a 4k stream, save a 1080p copy as well. That way you can server the 1080p copy or transcode that down to 720p if trying to watch on a non 4k screen or outside your LAN (unless your internet upload is fast enough to allow for 4k remote streaming).

Its hard to say. It is really up to you. Unraid has some features that are nice, truenas has others. There is no best option, there are just different options. For me, TrueNAS is what I went with and I am 100% happy with that choice for my needs. Another thing to consider is truenas is used in enterprise, which is always a + for knowing its reliable and well supported (not that unraid isn't well supported, but, enterprise software is held to a higher standard as would be expected).

It really depends what the use case is. Will there be much transcoding happening? What is the main use case for plex streaming? Direct play takes literally no resources, so if itll mostly be direct play (4k source on a 4k tv), you can run plex on a potato.

This is like trying to kill a spider with a flame thrower... Or maybe even a grenade. I am sure you could make it quiet, but that is WAY more then is needed for this... I ran my entire homelab which used ESXi as the host, VM's were truenas with 10x4TB drives, multiple ubuntu server VM's one which held plex, windows LTSC, home assistant, and a few other random low power VM's all on a i3 6100 and 28 GB of RAM and everything was happy as could be, and I exclusively stream bluray 4k Dolby Vision/Atmos content from Plex - at least when available. That machine would work more then fine, just a big electricity hog if this is all you wanted to do with it. With a machine like that, you could get into some fun homelab stuff and run a bunch of VM's next to truenas and get real fancy and learn some fun stuff which is more or less what I have done. I started out as bare metal truenas with Plex as a plugin, and over the past 6 years... things have changed 🙂

This is a lot of overkill, an i3 would be PLENTY.
