  1. I don't see how they could steal your identity through you initiating a phone call, they'd have to hack your mobile provider first and if they had done that already then they wouldn't really need to call you or get you to call them. ? My guess is it might've just been a scam call, but when you sat silent for a couple sec they just disconnected.
  2. Unplug the things you don't use all the time one by one until it doesn't happen anymore and you'll find the culprit. It might be something as simple as a wire starting to break. Obvoiusly if you end up with just the keyboard and mouse plugged in and it's still making the sound then it might be one of those. And try to blow out any dust or dirt from the unused ports.
  3. Indeed, check the 24-pin and the 4-pin for the CPU and since it's a mobo you had laying around clear the CMOS aswell, maybe it's trying to run the RAM with the wrong settings.
  4. Both Corsair and Amazon shouldn't give you any headaches with returns in case something doesn't work, so both sound good.
  5. Looks good, it should work. I'd just make sure to buy it from a store that has a reasonable returns policy, just in case.
  6. In theory, yes. You should also check all the different timings between the modules as those product names alone don't really give you the full spec, but theoretically if one of the sets is slower on some timings you can run the whole lot on the slower timings and technically it should work, that said it doesn't always go that butter smooth in practice and you won't really know until you try.
  7. No it doesn't make a difference that you installed the SSD, that only moved the copy of Windows onto a another drive, but still on the same PC. An OEM Windows key usually gets tied down to the hardware on installation, so if you move the drive to another PC you got a high likelihood it's gonna keep showing you that your copy of Windows is not genuine, until you obtain another activation code from Microsoft. And I'm not really sure what you mean by routing the graphic card to the IO, just use the ports directly on the card.
  8. I would assume that on a machine like that the BIOS might be quite heavily customized to accomodate for extra inputs, so the error sounds and melodies might not be all standard either. I don't know how much stuff you got to disconnect for troubleshooting, but I'd probably go one by one, to be on the safe side.
  9. It works with PS4, XBOX or your home cinema because of HDMI-CEC. It's a standard that allows your HDMI devices to communicate back and forth with the TV and send apropriate signals, for wake up, adjusting volume, changing the programs, etc. You can try checking if your graphic card supports HDMI-CEC, but very few do and then there's also the problem of driver support for the feature, so in short it's very unlikely that you'll be able to get it to work the way you want.
  10. Given that it's a rather specialized piece of equipment I'd probably try finding something about the melody in a manual for the machine rather than on American Megatrends. I don't work on that kind of machines or anywhere near forestry, but in my line of work, longer melodies on equipment startup usually point to some sensors getting activated to let you know that something is either out of limit or close to being out of limit. Also I know this is a bit off topic and doesn't help, but the melody kinda reminds me of Soft Kitty from Big Bang Theory. ?
  11. Regardless of who put together the computer you can check and correct this yourself you just need a screwdriver, fresh thermal paste and some isopropyl alcohol or isopropyl wipes and you'll be able to redo the thermal paste application. Also how did you check that the pump is working?
  12. Try setting the memory speed and timings manually, instead of using XMP.
  13. It's just gonna stretch the 1080p to the bigger size. When going up to 27" or 32" it's really a good idea to bump the resolution up.
  14. With that budget I'd probably look at something used, but since you got that in Argos vouchers I think your most interesting choices will be the £400ish laptops they got with Ryzen chips. There's not a whole lot of choice in Argos at that price. If storage is of importance than you can probably go with something like this: https://www.argos.co.uk/product/2207894 And if you're willing to sacrifice the stroage to get something slightly more snappy with an SSD: https://www.argos.co.uk/product/2017541 You might want to go to a PC World if you have one close, they'll probably have the same models with slightly diffrent specs, so you can have a try and get a feel for the laptop (ie. if you like the keyboard and build quality), before deciding to buy.
  15. Since it's a new build and it worked only a day it may be something as simple as a loose connection. Did you check if the 24-pin is securely connected on the motherboard (and on the PSU if you got a modular one)?
  16. Corsair didn't release any new firmware for that drive and mine worked correctly right out of the box, that's why I suggested checking it in another computer if possible just to make sure it's not a problem with the drive itself. On that second run you have completely diffrent readings, are you sure that there's nothing running in the background that's constantly hitting the drive while you run the test?
  17. It doesn't look too bad to be honest. If it's mainly text you're having issues with, you can try going through the ClearType setup in windows, maybe that will help.
  18. You're better off using isopropanol (isopropyl alcohol) rather than ethanol, it's way easier to clean off old thermal paste with it. With regards to drying either type of alcohol will dry up pretty quickly, you could always just blast it with a hairdryer for a couple seconds if you want to get rid of it quicker. Why do you want to wash the whole thing in alcohol though? Did you spill something on it?
  19. If possible I'd try that drive in another computer just to cross check, if you get the same results then there's probably something wrong with the drive. I'd also try re-seating it just to make sure it's not just slightly off. I got the same drive for my Alienware m15 and I have no issues getting very close to the rated speed of the drive.
  20. From a search on google, the Displayport on a R9 290 should be in the 1.2 spec and should be capable of supporting 4k@60Hz, so with the correct DP -> HDMI 2.0 adaptor and a good enough cable you should be able to reach your goal. The HDMI port on the card is only 1.4 spec so the max it can do is 4k@30Hz, that's why you were not able to squeeze anything more out of it. That said, those DP to HDMI adaptors vary in quality so it's good to look around online for something that has some decent reviews, so you don't end up with something that was poorly put together or doesn't actually do what it says on the box.
  21. You're right and I'm blind. ? The R9 290 doesn't have a HDMI 2.0 interface as far as I'm aware, the OP would have to use an active adaptor from DP to HDMI 2.0 to get 4k@60Hz on that card.
  22. Could you also tell us what GPU you're using? I can see from the website you linked that your TV/Monitor should technically be capable of running 4k @60Hz and has HDMI 2.0, make sure the cable you are using is HDMI 2.0 compatible, some high grade HDMI 1.4 cables might be able to deliver a 2.0 signal, but the typical ones won't by able to carry the 60Hz signal.
  23. It's very odd to have any buzzing sounds coming from the PSU, while gaming, if possible i'd try a diffrent PSU just to confirm that's where the sound is coming from.
