Thinking of turning my computer into a server (sometime in the future) to replace my current laptop server.
Mainly planning on using it for pi-hole, plex, and storage.
Those with home servers, how's the energy consumption? That's the main thing stopping me from doing it right now aside from being lazy

As a German with one of the highest electricity prices worldwide I shut my TrueNAS down in favor of a synology box to save some electricity.

Snip
Used an online calculator and based on the case that I set up, it'll only be $3/month, but that's assuming I don't use an eGPU.

I'm leaning towards TrueNAS for this server
Thought about getting a Synology box, but I don't feel like it'll be worth the cost (compared to just buying a few HDDs), based on how little I use my current server.

I bought my Synology used because the MSRP is really a little high. I obviously got new HDDs but buying the box used significantly lowered the price. It seems your electricity is a lot cheaper though so a TrueNAS is the harder to setup but much faster solution compared to Synology.
