  1. I currently have a Samsung u28e590d 3840 x 2160 60hz FreeSync monitor. I play both MMO's and shooters. Mostly shooters recently. I want to get another monitor anyways for viewing chat when I stream, or reading things in queue. There is currently a sell on the Dell S2716DGR for $350 it's a 27 in 1440p 144hz 1ms g-sync TN monitor. It says the normal retail value is $600. I've seen used listing sell at $300 on ebay though. I checked out the 144hz 1080p monitors and they are all like $250 anyways this monitor kind of future proofs me for a while imo. My current setup is: 16GB RAM 1060 6gb ryzen 5 1600 Another option is just to buy a new AMD GPU for around the same price and sell my 1060, but all of the Vega 56 have bad reviews from what I have seen? Thoughts? Do you guys think it's worth it to buy this monitor?
  2. I've recently reinstalled windows to help fix some tearing issues that I was having. I will check for the BIOS update tomorrow. I just got back to the pc. Thanks for the suggestions so far. I thought it was a drive failure and got lucky enough for a recovery that may not last long. However, I may need to reinstall windows again if there is a chance that the fix I used may have corrupted the windows, but that still shouldn't stop it from appearing in the boot priority list.
  3. Okay, so I went away from home for a week to handle some out of town business, so I shut my pc down and flip to power off switch on the power supply after all of the fans stop spinning. A week later, I come home and flip the power supply switch back on and boot my system. Now I get prompted that I have no operating system. So I restart my pc, go into the BIOS, and it is only recognizing one of my 3 drives (my backup drive with no OS). So I try new cables and different ports, nothing changes. Next I look up online troubleshooting and find these steps. (Note: At this point the SSD isn't appearing in the Boot menu, or in the BIOS boot priority list) 1. Unplug data cable going to SSD and load into BIOS for 30 minutes 2. Shutdown pc and replug data cable. 3. Load into BIOS for another 30 minutes, and make sure boot priority is correctly configured. 4. Restart and boot the pc Result: Same message, I have no operating system At this point I try to go into to boot menu (Not the boot priority list) and notice the drive. I tried to launch it but I kept getting a black screen after windows. I repeated with different display options, and eventually got back to my DVI cable which wound up working fine now. So, I booted from the boot menu, downloaded the SANDISK SSD tool and ran both smart tests. The drive appears fine on both the long and short test. Great! The only issue is now everytime I reboot my computer I have to go through the boot menu, or I will get told I have no OS. Any ideas that may help? Even if I maintain a steady 60 FPS or higher. Sometimes the tearing is steady, but it occurs most frequently when turning my view, however it is constant in fullscreen regular videos. Notes: Every part (monitor included) is brand new, except for the hard drives, No tearing occurs in Fullscreen(windowed) mode. Corrective steps already taken: Uninstall and reinstall drivers. Set to prefer performance in the nvidia control panel. Set to Adaptive V-sync in control panel. Format my SSD and reinstall the OS. (This changed the issue in fullscreen gaming from a constant tear across the center of the x-axis to typical tearing (varying locations). Problem 2: Max OC I can achieve is 1947 mhz, when most people report getting as much as 2100 comfortably on average. I just rma'd the card and got a new one. EVGA Precision XOC settings: Power target: 120% / Temp Target: 92C / GPU Clock Offset: 135 mhz / Mem clock offset: 400 mhz / Power scaler (on left side) - 40% Notes: Moving up even 5mhz on the GPU clock offset instantly crashes games. Observation: My laptop, the Acer Helios Predator 300, has basically the same specs as my desktop exept it has a 7th Gen Intel® Core™ i7-7700HQ mobile processor in it, and when it is plugged in, it runs fornite at 4k with nearly max settings at 60 fps constant, but when I try to fun fortnite I 4k on my desktop it only averages 40 fps on medium settings. My laptop isn't even overclocked like my desktop, and neither processor (desktop or laptop) gets anywhere near full utilization. The laptop also has 16GB of ram, and the 1060 6gb.
  5. I was leaning towards the xfx anyways from doing research, however I found videos on both sides showing both the MSI Gaming x and XFX GTR beating each other in cooling prospects, but it seems that most people that have commented so far are leaning towards the XFX card, so that seems to be the logical choice given the various levels of knowledge in the thread. I was looking towards to Gaming x mostly for aesthetic purposes since the color matches my ram and I can edit my AIO lights, but also liked the idea that it's already built to work with afterburner and MSI has a good reputation. I am still rather new, so I don't know too much about XFX yet. Thanks for the info guys.
  6. Which rx 480 should I buy? I am going with the 8gb model. The sapphire Nitro+ The Asus Strix MSI rx 480 XFX GTR If you know the differences between the cards, please elaborate. Thanks!
  7. Yeah, I was looking at the 212 just until I was able to get a decent mid-range CPU and GPU. Then I was going to spring for the $100 water cooled H100i.
  8. Thanks for all of the insight everyone!
  9. Will do. The only reason I wanted another cooler is because the stock cooler that came with my i3 has recently started getting pretty loud (even after I cleaned it). So I was considering actually buying a cooler this time around, but realistically that fan is like 9 mo old.
  10. I see, you were looking at the average of averages. I can see that either way is not bad to go, but I would have $10 more to spend on an afterstock cooler if I went for the rx480, hopefully its in stock. Last I checked it was out of stock everywhere, but that was a while back. I think going that route is a good bet.
  11. The video you showed is still showing the gtx 1060 6gb in almost every game. They are close but on average you are looking at a 6-10 fps jump between the two cards.
  12. My bad lmao, I was in two conversation at once and mixed the two up. The only reason I wouldn't future proof is because the 1060 outperforms the 480, and I never plan on running two of them side by side, so by the time I get ready to get something new, I will just replace it.
  13. That is an excellent idea, but it is very hard to sell a GPU in alabama XD. I will definitely try to sell it though.
  14. From watching other people's tests it seems the 480 is more future proof, but overall the 1060 outperforms. Why do you say it is better? I also like to play arma, and AMD's single core processing has always lagged what seems to be years behind intel.
  15. I just posted the way I would typically post in any forum. Is there a formatting issue or something. I noticed that the text was blacked out. I didn't really understand why though.
