First step is to solder the right place, removing the LED SMD components...

Kidding! No soldering involved here. I did a memory LED removal and the response was... mixed. Luckily, removing the LED here is a simple unplug. YES I realize that OpenRBG and a few others have software for this. OpenRGB didn't work. Don't want to troubleshoot. I despise LEDs. They should all have a hardware switch. Anyway, thanks for coming to my TED talk.

You'll need to follow the first few steps of this:

Top 4 are T5 on the bottom of this photo, and then 4 are Philips on the top.

Then lift the latch for this connector. I then taped it down with electrical tape.

When reassembling, use care to slot in the side closest to the fan. Make sure the prongs go in right. Sorry no photos.

There it is, I did the thing, got the physical copy.

I bought a license on Black Friday a while back for $10, recently decided to make a tech shadowbox and reached out to support, they sent me a physical copy for another $10.

However, I'm honestly surprised it made its way to me given the formatting of the shipping label. There was also no sleeve, it was bare disk inside the envelope!

I'm an Admin of IT Humor and Memes so I posted it for laughs, where I was met with a barrage of issues on the label.

-Was shipped from Germany, but is listed with Sweden Post.
    -Sweden return address, not Germany
    -From address isn't complete
-Posten logo hasn't been used since late 00s, company has been rebranded
-Value listed at $5 (was $16.59 CAD with tax and conversion)
    -Not my order number
    -Nonexistant tracking number
    -Commercial Sample
-Listed their phone number, not mine
    -Declaration header cut off
-Country of Origin listed as United States
    -No senders signature

It's clear whatever label maker software they're using is as old as the physical CD deliveries themselves 🤣 seems about the age from when they switched from floppy delivery to CD.

Absolutely love it and all its flaws. I'll cherish it for the rest of my life!

I'm a Freelance IT and had a client who insisted on sending .rar files password encrypted with AES256 , which Windows and .7zip can't handle (they use the ZipCrypto encryption methods) , figured I might as well get a paid copy and expense it. I know there are other free options, but I've been using WinRAR trial for over half my life so I figured I'd toss them some $$ since I'm in a decent place financially.

Hire a local IT firm to do it, they'll likely even offer to host an off-site backup incase your backup gets corrupted/damaged/missing . Also takes any/all liability off of you and ensures it gets done properly

I've got 4 monitors so I've got a powerbar connected to a smart-plug and just tell my GoogleHome to turn on/off the monitors. Smartplugs can be purchased for $10 if you want to toss automation at this problem.

Don't connect the USB to the monitor, connect it to your PC.
Then go into the BIOS and turn off "always on USB" so the USB power will shut off when your PC enters sleep.

Can confirm, my Ryzen 5 3600 bottlenecked the hell out of my RTX 3080, ended up with only a few frames over my old 2080 Super.
Upgraded to a 7800x and my frametimes improved significantly and FPS went up about 5-7%.

So why build it with two batteries? And why a 16GB bit of storage? And why.....?

I presume that 16GB could be replaced with something useful so you'd have the equivalent of two disks? Another maybe 250GB short M.2 two notch card?

Just pointing out here, that is an mSATA, not an M.2, technically. That definitely would NOT fit the M.2 slots on either of my systems.

It was a simple realization after looking at a photo taken by my significant other on her Pixel 6, why are mobile photos still rectangle and forced so wide?

I could honestly care less about the photo matching the dimensions of the device screen , premium phone manufacturers (Pixel Pro, Samsung S/Fol etc) should have an extra mode that allows us to capture the entire sensor, not just the slice of rectangle that's 3/4 of it. She would've been able to fit the top of that rollercoaster easily as she was backed up against another vehicle.

Chronified reacted to Alex Atkin UK in Thermal throttling no where near thermal limits
Unfortunately this is very common.  My Ryzen 2500U has the same issue except its more predictable in that it will run full power for 10 minutes then clamp down hard.

I'm not sure why, but my guess would be the power delivery VRMs are running a lot hotter than the CPU/GPU so the power limit gets cut.

What's really frustrating is I've never once seen the specifics like this advertised, so you know what performance you can get under load vs sudden bursts.  Its why buying a laptop is so complicated, you have to rely on reviews.

Chronified reacted to Hybris5112 in bios says is fan running at 75000-85000 rpm
The fans coming on full throttle before calming down at start up is what I would consider normal. My belief is that the motherboard delivers full power to the fans as a fail safe until the BIOS settings are applied and the fans are brought under control.

As for the high RPMs I am less sure on. I would get HWMonitor and see what it reports as the fan speed but otherwise so long as the fan is spinning in a controlled fashion its nothing to worry about.

Chronified got a reaction from t33to in Can anyone tell me if the Gigabyte AB350 Gaming 3 motherboard can boot from an m.2 pci-e adapter?
The real question, is why would you??
That motherboard has a 3rd gen x4 slot on it for NVMe drives, use that for your boot drive as putting the adapter in will just bottleneck the system giving it an extra hurdle. For the rest of your NVMe storage on that expansion card they'll load up in Disk Management after the driver is pulled from Windows Update. There's no guarintee that they'll come up in the BIOS, especially being a budget A-series board.

As for cooling, unless the NVMe drive has a heatsink it isn't necessary given your case has proper airflow. If you're making a build that is fan-less and you expect radiant heat, then I'd consider a heatsink for the storage.

My parents modem has the same issue, needing a restart about once a week.
They'd call me, I'd sigh and say "have you unplugged it and plugged it back in" and it worked every time.
At Xmas I snuck downstairs to the modem and put it on a $5 light timer from the hardware store. It cuts the power off for 15 minutes at 3am, when everyone is long asleep.

They haven't called me about the internet going down since.

Perhaps consider the same if your current config is fine speed+range wise and your only quirk is needing a power cycle.
