Thought I'd follow up on this solution, I decided to poke around the boot settings on the bios. I changed the boot order to allow the actual boot drive to come first, and that fixed the problem. I have no idea why it would change, but now it's fixed. Thank you, but the problem is now solved.

Hey everyone, I was just trying to update my bios (and it was up to date, so nothing changed) and now my computer has this very slow startup. It had this at one point but went away on its own out of nowhere. It comes up right after booting the PC, and it says: >>Checking Media Presence...... >>Media Present...... >>Start PXE over IPv4. and then this will occasionally flash below it: PXE-e21: remote boot cancelled. If anyone has a way to fix this, it would be greatly appreciated, because like I said, it had gone away before but now it's back. I don't think I messed with anything because I tread very carefully in the bios. Either way, all help is appreciated. Thanks.

This seems to have solved my problem. I updated the chipset and everything (so far) is working as it usually does. I know you said that UserBenchmark is garbage however comparing the test results from before and after combined with the real world use results it looks like this was the solution. Here it is. Like I said, not really anything that's too intensive on the system aside from Chrome eating up my ram.

I did test all my drives a couple months back and had to remove one because it had become too old and slow. I recall the HDD and SSD being perfectly healthy, not that this is still the case but I can't imagine a drive completely degrading in a couple months under the same conditions it has been in for so long. My bios is also the latest version.

Everything seems normal. Chrome of course eats up ram, but that's it. No viruses here.

Hey everyone, Today I noticed that my PC was running obscenely slow. Yesterday it was running fine; it was business as usual. I ran a test on UserBenchmark and these were the results. I appreciate your response, but the problem has (thankfully) been resolved with minor work. The CPU has appropriate power, and the wiring is done as necessary. The PSU isn’t cheap; I forget the 80 plus rating on it but it is pretty high up. Funnily enough, my off brand one that came with a prebuilt didn’t have this issue, but things could be worse. Thank you for the help :)

I decided to actually dig into my PC and test the hard drives individually. I unplugged both and the whole system ran beautifully, and then plugged one of the hard drives back in and acheived the same performance. I've found the faulty hard drive, so I guess I'll have to remove it. Thank you, everyone, for all the help.

So I found a program called gsmartcontrol, which might not be a great program, but it showed that the older hard drive has had errors in the past but not recently. It also said that all 3 (2 HDD 1 SSD) were all good.

Air cooled, but I've tested it and it has no problems even when pushed hard. I'm having problems now as I'm typing this; I can just feel the lag as I type but I can see the lights in the system actually lagging.

Hey everyone. Recently (August 2019) I built a new PC with a Ryzen 5 3600X, an RTX 2070, and 16GB of RAM. The thermals are perfectly fine, it doesn't have any malware, and I've cleaned a lot of junk off. I make sure to keep it clean, and there is no problem with dust buildup. The past couple weeks, I've noticed a serious slowdown, and have even crashed while playing some games. I have two suspicions: the hard drive and the power supply. The hard drive originally came with a pre-built PC I purchased back in April 2016, and I've also heard some strange clicking sounds, but I dismissed it as not being of concern because my files aren't corrupted, most of my programs and the OS are on a new SSD, and in the disk manager it claims the hard drive is "healthy." It could be a problem with age but I don't see how under 4 years of use would kill a hard drive. The second one is the power supply, simply because when I shut down the PC completely, but don't turn off the power supply directly, it makes a faint buzzing noise. Most sources I've checked have claimed that this is called coil whine and it's normal. Any help is truly appreciated, thank you.

It doesn't wake the PC. It's shutdown, it's just the lights that stay on. If a key is pressed, the keyboard will come on. Same with the mouse. I don't know how to stop this.

What does that mean? The PSU is high quality and the mobo is fairly high quality too.

So since I rebuilt my system, my only problem has been that at shutdown, the motherboard RGB stays on. This isn't a huge deal, but sometimes the keyboard will come on and the mouse will too. I understand this is residual power, but I don't want this to occur. To counter the problem, I have simply flipped the switch on the back of the PSU to fully shutdown the whole system. Will this have any negative effects on the system? If not, I can continue to do this unless there is a way to stop the PSU from giving power to the system after shutdown. Perhaps there is a setting in the BIOS? Anyways, all help is welcome. Thanks.

Well I pulled the RAM out and put it back in and now it posted. Looking good so far, thanks for the suggestion!

So I just finished rebuilding my PC about half an hour ago. Because it’s 2019, everything is (of course) RGB, so to me that’s a good indicator of whether or not something has power. Everything except the RAM has lighting, and since it just works on one setting without the software controlling it, theoretically everything should be lit up but the RAM is not. Not sure if this is a RAM issue. I should also include that it is an X470 board with a Ryzen 5 3600X. If it needs a BIOS update, I don’t know how to do it since I can’t get into this system at all. All help is appreciated, thanks.

I believe they updated them to a newer model (2018) so you may be looking at an older one.

Just to be clear, the part that sort of strings out from the end goes to the right, correct?

I’d like to add that I know the one end with a single ending goes in the PSU.
