  1. Hi guys, I'm using a Xbox One Series controller on my PC. It works totally fine when I plug it to the PC, but it doesn't when I plug into the USB ports on my monitor. USB sticks are detected without any problem though. Actually even the controller is detected in Device Manager (under Xbox peripherals) and it rumbles when I plug it. However, the logo on the controller doesn't turn on and it's not detected by any game. Again, it works totally fine when I plug it to the motherboard. Anything I could try? Thanks!
  2. Right after I posted this, I got a bsod (kernel security check). Bsods keep happening more and more and I suspect a motherboard issue because it has many other issues as well: audio ports not working and some kind of bandwidth issue with the USB ports so I can't use all of them at once, especially the ones close to each other. I already ordered a replacement motherboard, but could it be possible that the motherboard impacts the CPU performance?
  3. I think this makes sense but I don't think that's my issue. I'm back to this project and if you take a look at the graph below, the CPU keeps running below 5% and the usage is low on all 12 cores.
  4. Hi, So I got a new monitor yesterday, and since then my PC has frozen 3 times already. It's actually 3 and a half times because yesterday while playing Shadow of the Tomb Raider, the screen froze for a few seconds, then the audio came back but the screen was still frozen. Things went back to normal after I alt-tabbed and came back into the game. The thing is I'm moving from a 32" 4K monitor at 75Hz to an ultrawide 1600p monitor running at 144Hz. I updated the drivers only last week so it shouldn't be that issue. These are Nvidia studio drivers. If it can help, my full PC specs are available on my profile. This isn't the first time that I'm experiencing weird behaviors with this PC. I often get crashes when playing games or working with After Effects. But these are BSOD's, not screen freezes. I know that the motherboard is faulty. It has never worked perfectly since day one: some ports weren't working but the system was stable and I needed a functional PC ASAP. 3 years later, the audio isn't working (I'm using a PCI sound card) and even more ports stopped working. My usage has also changed because I'm using all RAM slots and drive ports. I already ordered a replacement board, but I would like to know if the motherboard could be the cause of these crashes or if there's anything else I should consider doing. Thanks
  5. That's quite a big difference difference though (109 vs 92. 109 is like 20% more). Actually having a too high PPI is quite detrimental, since you need to use some scaling. In my case, I found myself having to squint more or moving closer to the screen on the 4K monitor. I don't do that with this one so I guess it's perfect size and PPI for me. I might fall in love with it by the end of the week lol. I'll see how I feel after a proper gaming session this weekend.
  6. So I just bought the LG 38GN950. I've been using it for about a couple hours and honestly, I think it looks great but I really don't get all the hype about such monitors. I'm coming for an entry level 32" 4K one and I don't notice a huge difference between the two. Everywhere, including on this very forum, people have been telling me that 144Hz monitor are life-changers. Well, that's BS. I have put my MacBook air side to side and don't notice anything that's worth the extra money. I have also tried gaming, just Shadow of the Tomb Raider, in ultra settings, native resolution (1600p), ray tracing, HDR... The framerate fluctuates between 90-120 FPS but I really don't notice any difference vs playing at 60Hz. Actually the hype was the same about switching from 1080p to 4K. I wasn't impressed with the higher resolution on the previous monitor, and now going back to 1600p, I actually think it's a better resolution at this size because there's no need for scaling. Of course the worst aspect is when opening a YouTube video for the first time.... That's a shock! The only parts where it has shined so far was when opening an Excel file with many columns, and when opening Premiere Pro. I'll give it a couple weeks, maybe a month, and then decide if I keep it or not. I'm tempted to get a 40" Dell Ultrasharp for instance, which MSRP is actually half the one of this monitor. So all in all, I'm not that impressed despite its great looks. Yes, it looks badass in the office. My main satisfaction is that it was a great deal. I bought it refurbished at about 550 euros, and with only 27 hours of use according to the system. It came with all cables sealed and even some covers to peal!
  7. Can I check this is in the task manager or do I need a third party software? I actually reached out to the Adobe customer support and I've been told that Dynamic Link only uses one core. So it's better to render complex compositions in After Effects first, then import them as footage in Premiere. I also installed the Studio drivers and it helps a bit. I'm still not getting full hardware utilization but the overall performance has greatly improved. I'll try reinstalling Windows too because I've had a couple crashes yesterday. I also have a new motherboard coming so maybe that'll help too because the current one has been acting weird for a while (USB ports not working properly, no audios) so maybe it's what limiting hardware utilization.
  8. 1080p. And no I don't need proxies in Premiere since this was mostly made of AE compositions.
  9. Hi, I've been having this issue for quite a while now. When I use Premiere and After Effects, the performance is quite slow when working on animation projects, and the hardware resources are never fully used. The CPU usage rarely goes beyond 50% and the GPU usually stays at 10-15%. Even the RAM isn't fully used. In this particular example, it's taking about 5-10 seconds to render a single frame, although there isn't anything particular complex in this animation. If it can help, here are my specs are below: - Ryzen 5 2600X - 32GB of RAM and 3200MHz - RTX 3070 The Nvidia drivers are up to date, and this isn't a new issue anyway. These are the Game ready drivers. All Adobe products are up to date too. I've changed the settings so that all the available RAM can be used. Thanks
  10. Yes the idea was to upgrade the CPU down the road and for cheap instead of getting a new motherboard, CPU, and RAM to run the next gen Ryzen CPUs. Now since it's a refurbished motherboard I wouldn't be able to tell if actually works.
  11. Hi, I just ordered an Aorus B550 Pro AC motherboard to replace my failing Tomahawk B450. I just realized that the B550 Chipset doesn't support Zen+ CPUs, but I'm also seeing threads about people being able to update their BIOS and make it work. I'm a bit confused now. Is it worth trying or should I just cancel the order? For more context, it was a pretty good deal because there was a huge sale going on so I got this board and a Thermaltake S500 TG case for €70 (all refurbished).
  12. I hope I'm posting this in the right section. So I'm looking forward to getting the M2 MBA, so I want to get money out of my M1 model. I've evaluated on the Apple website and I can see that I can get $335 out of it through the Trade-in program. I think that's pretty low considering that I can get around the double if I list it on eBay for example or put it on auction. On top of that, they mention that the max value they can offer for a MBA is $400, which is pretty low considering that a full-specced version costs around $1800. So basically you'd be getting an extra $65 for a device that's twice as much expensive as mine. I think I'm missing something. Is there any extra value that this program is offering or is it just meant to be this way? Thanks!
  13. Seen on Reddit: If you consider every permutation of colored pixel in a TV and list them out, you'll have an image for every scenario, thought, and idea in conceivable reality.

  14. You haven't traveled a lot, have you? Anyway that's not the point of this topic.
  15. Hmm I'm seeing a couple. But I get your point.
  16. Size isn't an issue. I'm currently using a 32" monitor and it would fit easily into the suitcases I have at home. Even a 38" ultrawide would, but I'd get a larger suitcase anyway.
  17. Yes, I should probably do things properly because that's still a big investment. If I do keep the original packaging though, I'm afraid I might be asked to pay for taxes. Has this ever happened to you? I'm also scared to have the package "lost" because people can clearly see what's inside (it's a bit more difficult when it's in a regular suitcase) and I know people who have lost personal items like this. There might be gamers among airport agents...
  18. Hi, I'm seeing a good deal on a 38" 21/9 curved LG monitor and I'm tempted to buy it. The problem is I might have to move to a new country this summer so I'm not sure if it's a good idea to buy it now as I'll have quite a lot of stuff to carry with me. I don't intend on keeping the original package, but instead I'm considering putting it in a large suitcase, using my clothes (heavy sweaters and stuff) as padding. I'd only take the monitor itself and buy an arm when I get to the new country. Would you consider it a safe way to carry it, or should I just wait and buy a monitor once I get there? Thanks!
  19. Any idea why the version with the 10-core GPU is configured with 512GB of storage by default although it's possible to spec up the base model with that same SoC and 24GB of RAM. That's actually a solid deal at $1700.
  20. Thanks for the links. That displaywars website was exactly what I needed. I think a 38" ultra wide at 1600p would be the sweet spot if money is an issue. 5K at this screen size wouldn't make sense because I'd be scaling up like I'm doing now with my 32" 4K (it would probably be at 150% considering the higher resolution and lower height). A 49" would also be too narrow but the original G9 is now available at €1120 without any sales so it's still worth considering. So now I'll need to decide whether I should go for a cheaper 34" or spend the double on a 38". Interestingly, I can't find any 38" ultra wide for less than €1000 and they all have high end gaming features. At the end of the day, price will be the deciding factor.
  21. This video is currently heavily shared on Reddit with most people disagreeing with it. There are even a lot of memes about it.
  22. Hi guys, Last Christmas, I was very close to buying a Samsung G9. At the last minute I changed my mind and bought an RTX 3070 for a quarter of the price (after selling my old GPU) and I think it was a better investment at the time. Now I want to upgrade my Acer 32" monitor. I'm using it mostly for productivity (coding, content writing, Excel, Premiere Pro and After Effects) so I don't care that much about the gaming features. I do have a lot of games in my library, but no competitive shooters requiring high refresh rates. We're talking Age of Empires, RDR2, Shadow of the Tomb Raider etc. I also need a tall monitor for productivity, especially for After Effects. Now I've had my eyes lately on the LG 37.5" UltraGear 38GN950-B, currently on sale from €1500 to €1000. The reviews are pretty positive but I'm not sure if 1) I'd have enough height space compared to my 32" 4K monitor with 125% scaling and 2) if it's worth the price. The second point is interesting because I'm seeing alternatives like the LG 34" LED - 34GN850-B for €850, or even the LG 34" LED - 34WN780-B at €499. So I could literally buy two of these for that price. What would be the best investment, especially considering that I could also get the latest Dell OLED monitor for €100-200 more. Thanks!
  23. I'm not sure if they will. The M1 Air is selling very well and there are rumors saying that they would just launch something between the Air and the Pro 14. At this point I'm not sure what to tbh.
  24. Hi, So I'm upgrading my entry level MacBook Air to another MBA in order to get more RAM. Now I was wondering if I should get the extra storage as well to have the variant with 8 GPU cores. I can't find any serious analysis online so I'd like to know if it would help with video editing tasks. Thanks!
  25. So here's a quick update on the situation. I now have 32GB of RAM, and right now both RAM and CPU usage are close to 100%. In this example, I'm not even rendering the most complex scene, but it's still rendering at 1 frame per second, and I'm exporting a preview at 360p. So what is the next step? Should I get even more RAM or even more CPU power? What's the priority. Now the Mac Studio suddenly looks very tempting, but I can see that for about $1000, I could get a 12th gen i7 with a motherboard and 64GB of RAM. Would that be a better option?
