  1. I'm in situation with my current Windows 10 installation, that I kind of should do the OS re-install. Trouble is that there's so much all kind of development related applications, configurations and so on, that I wouldn't like to just go and format everything, and then start to setup everything from scratch. I'm planning to move on this re-install from Windows 10 to Windows 11. I was wondering, could it be possible to install Windows 11 to some example VMWare or VirtualBox virtual environment, setup everything up correctly while still using my existing setup, and after everything is setup, take full disk image of that VM, example with Acronis True Image (which I'm using daily to take backup of my system anyway) or equivalent, and then restore that backup to actual hardware SSD? I'm running i9-9900K with Gigabyte Aorus Ultra MB, and I've confirmed that hardware does support Windows 11. But could there come some complications with how Windows installs drivers and others on VM, compared to actual hardware?
  2. Ok, replying to my own post, maybe this could be helpful for some one some day. I believe the root cause for Windows boot working was that on new 12th gen platform, when using Intel Rapid Storage system (Intel VDM), that should be enabled while installing the OS, and those VDM drivers should be installed during OS install. Since my windows install was like 9 years old, there obviously wasn't drivers for latest VDM. Why the whole boot drive disappeared when VDM was enabled, I have no idea. For safety reason I decided to take 1:1 copy of my OS drive, just in case if I somehow f-up the whole disk, I still have way to restore it in same state as it was. For my surprise, I went and attached copy of my original drive to system, and bazinga, boot drive got visible even with VDM Enabled. Thou when I tried to boot into windows, I got BSOD with error about couldn't find bootable image. Well, at least I got step forward. Next I managed to google article about installing intel VDM driver to existing windows install (https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/answers/questions/1151478/install-intel-vmd-driver-into-windows-10-system-af) I went and booted Windows 10 install from USB, and entered trouble shooting section and opened command prompt. I copied Intel VDM Drivers on same USB stick, for being able to install them with DISM. Running DISM Command dism /image:C:\ /add-driver /driver:X:\RST\Driver\drivername.inf I got message that driver was successfully installed in windows image. I crossed my fingers and booted, with original windows boot loader. I run into one last error about some windows system32 boot file, and ended up to screen where I was able to choose OS where to boot. I chose my Windows 10 install, and booted on Safemode with Networking. Safemode started, and then I was able to install VDM drivers properly with Intel "SetupRST.exe" installer. One more boot, and damn. It's all just like before old MB broke. Even the original Intel Raid is working, and is showing as it should, and even Steam is able to find library from there. As a final note for self. Even if it's your wife's PC, go and setup some kind of backup system in place, so you don't need to spend a week and countless hours of digging second pages of Google, Windows forums, Reddit and others for clues, how to rescue that data.
  3. Hello! I end up in bit of struggle, where my old PC MB broke, and on that PC I had two SSD:s setup in RAID0 on Intel Rapid Storage Tech tool from BIOS (old MB was ASUS Maximus VI Hero), and new when I went and replaced CPU, MB and Memories with new i3-12100F, I'm able to see the RAID volume in BIOS, but not able to boot in OS which is on another disk. As can be seen from pictures, if Intel Rapid Storage Tech is enabled, BIOS does find "Intel Games RAID", but isn't able to pick up boot partition from Kingston disk. If I disable Rapid Storage Tech, then windows boot partition can be found from Kingston disk, but again, Intel Games RAID isn't detected. Might there be some setting that I'm just missing, for BIOS to handle those two non-raid disks as normal SATA Disks, and two raid disks as RAID? Specs for PC: ASUS Prime B760M-K D4 Intel Core i3-12100F Some G.Skill DDR4 Thanks for any help!
  4. I bought Helicon GoXLR couple months ago, and been super happy with it. When gaming with friends, in many occasions volume levels fluctuate quite a lot depending what is going in the game. Since GoXLR offers virtual output devices, it's super nice when you can assign "Game"-interface for games, and when game volume rises it's easy to tune it down with one slider in mixer. And now in problem. I've noticed that some of games do not get affected by "Output"-device assignment (ex. Barotrauma, WoW Classic). Is that app and device preference selection something that developers have to build support in their games/apps to work, or is that completely handled by Windows? Example for Spotify, I can easily swap on the fly output device in settings, and it affects immediately to output device.
  5. Hello everyone, I'm pretty sure that someone has asked about this before, but couldn't find any other kind of "Windows 10 move" topics, than going from HDD->SSD or replacing disk with bigger one. But I'm planning to upgrade my computer during the spring (going from i7-6800k to i7-9900k) which would mean replacing mb and cpu. My current windows installation is on m.2 drive, and I wonder does windows nowadays support if I just take that m.2 and move it to new motherboard, or do I have to go through whole windows install process again?
  6. Thanks for comments. My "Load"-scenario is on CPU Aida64 stress test run around 40 minutes, and GPU stress test with FurMark. I'm actually really happy with GPU results, especially that looks like I don't have to run 120mm EK-Vardar EVO's more than ~500-600rpm to keep temps where I said them to be. Maybe only solution would be to bump up the fan curves, to start cool more agressively when going above maybe 50 degrees...?
  7. Hello dear fellows! At the begin of year I started my first X99 build with i7-6800k, and I've been very happy with it so far. Basically I was running EVGA FTW GTX1080 and i7-6800k, all with stocks clocks, and CPU cooled with Corsair Cooling Hydro H90, and everything packed in Fractal Define R5 case. Couple weeks ago I started to think, if I'd step up, and build by first custom water cooling loop for PC, so I sat down and placed order for EK. Ordered two 120x240 radiators, CPU block and GPU block for my build. Yesterday I finished my build, so it's time to go and test how new cooling solution performs. I have to say, I'm really happy with GPU results, but CPU, oh boy... I've installed radiators in the way that front radiator gets fresh air in, and fans are pushing cool air through radiators in the case. Second radiator is installed to top of case, in the way that fans pull in case air through radiator out of case. But yeah, my temp results before and after the upgrade. Before temperatures: Ambient: 24,5 C Idle CPU: 37 C Load CPU: 66 C Idle GPU: 58 C Load GPU: 82 C With new custom loop: Ambient: 23,5 C Idle CPU: 40 C Load CPU: 60 C Idle GPU: 45 C Load GPU: 67 C I honestly wonder, is i7-6800K just so damn hot chip, that block just can't cool it fast enough event with water, or am I maybe doing something wrong? I've reservoir/pump combination, and I filled system with about 0,8L of EK CRYOFUEL coolant, tilted case in the way that system should be pretty much air free. Any help and comments would be really appreciated! Like I said, this is my first custom water cooling loop, so I've really no idea what I should be expecting as results.
  8. Thanks excellent to hear! Do you mind to share on what settings you achieved 4Ghz?
  9. Thanks for suggestion! 5820K was actually an option when I was comparing CPUs, but price difference between 6800K and 5820K was ~30 EUR, so thought that doesn't make difference, considering getting two years "fresher" CPU.
  10. I asked from couple of suppliers here in Finland about delivery times for 1080Ti, but they couldn't give any solid estimates, so I decided to go with 1080 for now. 1080Ti upgrade might come ahead, after some reviews come out, and availability gets better.
  11. I've been so long Intel enthusiast, that since Ryzen is so fresh and new, and build is coming for daily work usage, I thought that sticking with Intel is more safer option at this point. I want to see some actual user experiences of longer term usage of Ryzen, before starting to think about changing team.
  12. Hello folks! I thought that this might be great time to join in LTT community, when starting a new build for work and more casual usage. We started to film new Virtual Reality serie (as a hobby) few months ago, and now I've been carrying my old rig between studio and office few times a week, so I decided to get new workstation for myself at the office, and leave old one to Studio to perform HTC Vive and Oculus tasks. Old rig is: Case: Fractal Design R4 Mobo: ASUS Maximus VI HERO Z87 CPU: i7-4770K 4-core Memory: Kingston HyperX black 1600MHz DDR3, 32GB SSD-OS: Kingston SSDNow V300 480GB SSD-Apps: 2x Samsung 850 EVO SSD 1TB, in RAID0 SSD-Hot Storage 1: Samsung 840 EVO SSD 250GB SSD-Hot Storage 2: Samsung 850 EVO SSD 500GB PSU: Corsair RM550, 80 Plus Gold - 550W GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 FTW Gaming ACX 3.0 And now we can get to interesting part, the new build. I'm especially interested to see, how noticable difference is between 3 years ago done build and new one. Here's what I've placed order so far: Case: Fractal Design R5 Mobo: ASUS STRIX Gaming X99 CPU: i7-6800K, 6-core (hopefully this clocks to 4,0GHz) Cooling: Corsair Cooling Hydro H90 Memory: Corsair Vengeance LPX Black DDR4 3000MHz, 32GB SSD-OS: Samsung 960 EVO SSD 500GB, M.2 SSD-Apps: 2x Samsung 850 EVO SSD 1TB, in RAID0 HDD-Storage: 2x Western Digital Red 2TB, in RAID0 PSU: Cooler Master V1000, 1000W GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 FTW Gaming ACX 3.0 Monitors: 2x Acer Predator XB271HU 27" Gaming monitors I really look forward to see how fast 960 EVO is in booting compared to normal SSD, and like before said, overall can you find differences in daily usages (After Effects, Premiere, Gaming), compared to old setup. I'll keep posting after get my order, hopefully in couple of weeks! ...so excited!
