  1. well dang... I just got thinking that folding month should be coming up, I should check...I'm 3 days late. =( Hope you all have the most epic folding month yet! -edit- I'm going to run for a while anyway (it's cold outside...) 3 setups of varying strength: Ryzen 5 5600X3D Radeon RX 7800XT Ryzen 5 2600 Radeon RX 6700XT Ryzen 7 2700X Nvidia Quadro P600
  2. I know this post is a bit old at this point, however...I was just (re)building a PC for a friend of mine, and noticed that the previous builder did not tighten ANY of the standoffs...they weren't even close. I had my trusty LTT screwdriver with me, but not that silly standoff driver with the phillips head (you know the one). I was forced to use a pliers, which isn't as clean...or easy. I thought...why didn't LTT include a driver for these in the default kit??? I may have to find some cheap driver set and cut one down to fit in the handle.
  3. I can throw a couple of points in the ring. It's not a lot, but "every little bit" right? System 1 can run 24/7 uninterrupted with R5 1600 + RX580 System 2 may see some gaming usage for a couple hours per day, and has R7 2700x + 6700XT I'll look into getting BOINC running... haven't done it before.
  4. the 2.4Ghz band is VERY crowded. Wireless remotes, bluetooth, cordless phones, wireless security, microwaves, most wireless mice/keyboards...the list is endless of things that use 2.4Ghz band. You're likely getting interference on that band. Also, how many other devices are competing for bandwidth on that spectrum? I've had certain channels of 2.4 be unusable in apartments because 10 other people's routers were on the default channel (6 usually). if you're getting better connection on the 5Ghz, stick with it.
  5. well damn...went on vacation for a week, and lost internet connection the whole time for some reason. Everything is back up and running now, hopefully I can still make 20 days of activity...
  6. Makes me REALLY wish I hadn't missed a couple of years...oh well, founder's badge is good enough!
  7. Incredible numbers, folks, keep up the good work!
  8. oh man, I'm so late to the party! I had it in my head that the event was November... Getting started tonight. I won't be winning any prizes, but I definitely want to participate in the cause.
  9. My brother-in-law is trying to upgrade his computer with some NVMe goodness, but running into issues. From what I can remember, his build is: Asrock B250M-HDV mobo Intel G4560 MSI RX580 8GB couple of sata HDDs Anyway, everything's been working great for nearly 2 years. But he picked up a Silicon Power M.2 NVMe to boost his overall performance a bit. When he first installed it, he couldn't get it recognized at all. He pulled the GPU out and tried it with the on-board graphics, and then it was detected, windows installed lightning fast, etc. Now he's happy....until he puts the GPU back in. With the GPU installed, the M.2 drive is not recognized or bootable, at all. Nothing we've tried seems to allow the drive and the GPU to be installed at the same time. His PSU is an XFX 550W which should provide enough power. Anyone had any luck with this mobo and NVMe? Is he going to have to get a M.2 SATA instead? I can't believe that the M.2 pci-e would use the same lanes as the GPU... or is the G4560 the problem? Any help/input is appreciated!
  10. I haven't had a rebate declined yet, but some of them take a LONG damn time. I bought my Asus RX480 around Christmas, and just got my $20 rebate 2 days ago....so 11 months. I had given up.
  11. Hey all, I've tried to search this out myself, but the specs from all of the different video converters out there are so confusing, or just plain out of date...I can't find a legit answer. I have been working on converting my DVD and BluRay discs to digital for my Plex server. I've been using Makemkv to rip the files, and then handbrake to convert. Handbrake does not work with my Radeon RX480, however, so I'm forced to use CPU encoding. This works, and is very reliable...but SO slow. DVDFab trial was able to take advantage of my GPU and make MUCH faster work of the process...but it's expensive, and I'm not so sure about the way it hooks itself into my system. I'm looking for a reasonably priced video converter that can make use of the HEVC abilities of my GPU. I find references to the old AMD APP, or VCE...but only older HD7000 cards listed. Anyone have any luck with this? I can't just go buy an Nvidia card to get Cuda capabilities...simply for budget reasons. Thanks in advance!
  12. Yeah, basically wanted to know if it was a standard micro or mini USB, rather than something proprietary...
