How is CX 2017 a downgrade from BR? CX is LLC Resonant and DC-DC with full protections intact. EVGA BR is double forward unit + sleeve bearing

You're literally suggesting they spend 3-4 times as much as a couple of 2.5Gbit USB adapters.  Plus if you got a switch that cheap, its probably old with no warranty, loud and power hungry!

You got a really good list to begin with though i did do some minor upgrades

Added a cpu cooler so your cpu can boost higher

Upgraded the board to a b550a pro

Upgraded the ssd to an a2000 (has dram cache and faster than an sn550)

    Upgraded the psu to 750w

You can get windows from sites like scdkey for ~20$ since paying full price for a garbage os like windows 10 is quite a ripoff, and sometimes there are youtuber promocodes so you can get a discount, for scdkey i think tech yes city has a scdkey code, if i recall correctly it is TYC but there are also other sites where you can buy windows keys from

That sort of devices existed as long as there were computers, nothing new there. If you are dumb enough to plug everything you get your hands on to your computer you are dumb enough to pay for a new motherboard.
There is a very good chance that TUF is just another shitty branding scheme, just like ROG bullshit Asus keeps on using. You can try emailing their support and see if the laptop you originally mentioned has for protection against this (I personally wouldnt get my hopes up).

Get a 3080, dual GPU is dead.

The main issue is that prices will probably be well elevated for the next bit. (Also Canadian here) Recently I've been seeing 3080s for around 1300+VAT even directly from retailers like Amazon.

Welcome to the forums! I'm not all that much older myself haha

300 is theoretical, even in the wireless tab. WLAN doesn't work as well as people think.

Get the EVGA G3 here, it's the best PSU in your budget.

    550W is fine.
earlier models have OPP issue, but not overheating issues

You have a very good 750 unit, plus the trinity is a 320W reference-class card. No worries.

    I even ran a 320W 3080 off a 650W RMx and it worked fine.

LienusLateTips reacted to Jonathan Lee in Upgrading CPU for gaming - is it all just hype?
So if the question is "will I notice a difference if I upgrade to a modern CPU?" The answer is yes. Overall system responsiveness increase, generally snappiness of system is better, games will feel smoother.

If the question is "Will you get higher frame rates?" Maybe. Going from you're current CPU to an i5-11400 or 5600X is a HUGE uplift. You get 3 things: more cores, more threads and higher IPC (instructions per clock cycle). While you can OC your current CPU to match or beat current CPU's in the market, there is no way to improve the IPC of a CPU. I would definitely recommend the upgrade if you can afford it. You can also consider an 8 core intel (10700/11700) as well to provide better multitasking ability.

I do think you will get a massive CPU bottleneck with your current CPU if you upgrade your GPU to 3060.

A high quality 750W unit like his' is perfectly fine. No need for an upgrade unless it causes crashing, which I would doubt. He has one of the highest quality units on the market

Don't buy by brand. Even Apevia and Gigabyte make some decent PSU models.

Also, that XFX unit is a SeaSonic rebrand.

I'd go for the i5 11400 in your scenario. No reason to get the 5600X for that much more.
Pair it with a quality B560 board and preferably DDR4 3000/3200 and you'll be set.
There is a large performance bump.

You are running a little close with the PSU. It's a quality PSU and I have faith in the protections, so you should try running it on the 460W unit. Worst comes to worst most likely the system just shuts down and you buy a 650W PSU.

This is the biggest thing that i don't think people really know about or even consider.

Also boot time isn't really something that you should care about, gone are the days of 2 minute boot times.

Or you could just enable fast boot, but that can come with it's own issues.

It most probably has a video memory failure - these kinds of issues are tricky: they preheat these chips and they indeed do work and you will use your card as if it's new until it'll fail again and again and... you get it

LienusLateTips reacted to Electronics Wizardy in Asking about usage of PCIe 4 lanes when using PCIe 3
Those cards really aren't great on am4(or 1200) as they need a full x16 slot to be usable, and with a gpu in the system you don't have that. Half the slots wont work on it.

Get fewer bigger drives, there is almost no point to that speed on a desktop.

No, the 80+ rating is just efficiency. The PSU can affect your overclocks though, when you have a power supply with poor electrical performance.
