  1. A big part of supporting something is offering troubleshooting support for something you're offering. Throwing up some aged drivers "as-is" isn't official support. It's them saying if it works, it works. If it doesn't, well sucks to suck then.
  2. Instead of installing something on each and every computer, why not setup something like pihole and point your DNS in the router to it so everything on the network uses it?
  3. You know what else is quite silly? This segue to our sponsor!
  4. A movie would only work if it was loosely based on his life. You can't make a movie that's basically what he releases on youtube, wouldn't be good at all. Get Michael Bay to direct the movie and have it inspired by Linus' life and you may have something
  5. Viral videos weren't really a thing until after I graduated high school. We didn't even have a PC until I got to high school and back then, dial up was the thing lol.
  6. I was born the same year the NES launched in North America
  7. I use a all purpose cleaner for the outside of the case to wipe it down. Glass cleaner for the class. Datavac for cleaning all the dust from inside the case and a detailing brush to help agitate dirt and dust where needed. Usually can get it all clean in about 10-15 minutes
  8. That I can still make silly mistakes like not making sure a cable isn't plugged in all the way and waste a lot of time trouble shooting things lol
  9. Ended up trying that and still had the issue. Ended up tearing it down today and found the 24 pin wasn't seated fully in the PSU so kept rebooting cause it was unplugging and going back in lol.
  10. Somewhere I have an external optical drive. The company I work for we used them a lot 4-5 years ago and before for installing software on ATMs but now all the banks are going with thumb drives. My personal rig I haven't had one in so long and my current case doesn't even support optical drives unless I got a USB one. Honestly optical media is more of a relic of the past and being far out dated as the costs for supplying CDs just isn't needed anymore. If the next generation doesn't ditch discs I'll be shocked.
  11. So about a month ago I upgraded some components. Everything was working great too till tonight. My PC is currently rebooting itself. It will power down, then I head some beeps coming from it, then it will boot back up again. I replaced the power supply, CPU, motherboard, and ram. I've gone and done a return through amazing to replace them but trying to make sure I didn't miss anything. My suspicion is it's the power supply but I have no basis of this
  12. I just have basic W2 returns. I've been using the free version of HR Block for years. If it was more complex then yeah it would make more sense to use an accountant.
  13. Now I'm just doing Aesthetic upgrades to the PC! Next one will be a new AIO to match
  14. Same as many. AIM, MSN, and various Message Boards. Also I was big into gaming clans back them for Starcraft and CS Source.
  15. Overall nothing to special. I have more stuff I carry in my bag but this is just what's in my pockets. JBL Headphones, paracord bracelet with compass, whistle, LED, firestarter built in. Zippo lighter for just in case, wallet, pocket organizer with pen - weatherproof notepad - knife - light and compass. Work phone (Samsung of some sort) and iPhone 13 and a watch (Tag Heuer in pic but normally wear Apple Watch as work) Everything else I carry inside a shoulder bag
  16. Very awesome build log!! Build looks amazing!!!!
  17. Is your mother familiar with Linux? Why would you install Linux on it? You don't need to buy anything super expensive for an office PC for it to last. I built my dad one years ago using old PC parts I had at that time and it's still running. If I remember it's an old pentium chip. Me personally I'd probably go with an Intel i3 build.
  18. Depends on the license. Most common windows keys are 1 key per motherboard. You may need a new key. As far as the system itself you *should* be fine. It should bootup but anything can happen. I upgraded my PC today from a B450/R5 2600 to a X570/R7 5700 and it wouldn't read the boot drive and had to reinstall
  19. Boot drive could be bad but possibly not being picked up by S.M.A.R.T. tests. You could also have something installed on your PC that is severely slowing down your bootup times. I would test with a fresh install and/or a new boot drive
  20. Right now I'm gonna be doing my first upgrade to my PC since 2018. Bought a Ryzen 7 5700x and mobo to replace my older Ryzen 5 2600 and mobo. Thought about going 7700x but the 5700x had a great deal and and wasn't ready to jump to AM5 and DDR5. I am also going to be replacing my PSU from a 650w Bronze to a 850w gold and in the next few months I will also replace my GPU
  21. Well my job the resources aren't something you can google, we have our own internal system we can use to find out information on common errors and potential fixes, otherwise we work with each other if we need a second set of eyes or someone with more experience
