My friend is having the same issue with a laptop too. Intel chip and Nvidia GPU.

I never really had this issue before but having 35 pounds of unicorn puke going off in your bedroom at 3 AM is kinda bothersome to say the least.

So I started folding again today. Upgraded from an RX480 to a 2080Super since the last time I folded.

My PC did about the same amount of work in one day as it did in the three years before.

    Now thats an upgrade!

    Hi @keenhydra

Unless you have not updated your graphics driver for quite a while and you were only upgrading to a better Nvidia GPU, then you would not need to install any new drivers.

However, you are changing GPU architecture so you will need to uninstall your AMD driver in SAFE mode using DDU and then install the latest Nvidia driver.

Use this tutorial, and FOLLOW Wagnardsoft's instructions closely...here-> Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) Tutorial/Guide

    hope this helps ☮️

I would recommend using Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) to uninstall your current GPU drivers seeing that you are switching manufacturers. You should first uninstall your current driver through Windows Settings or Programs and Features under the Control Panel. Afterwards, use DDU to remove all traces of your old GPU driver and then you can shutdown, remove the old GPU, install the new one, start up and install the latest drivers from the website.

your psu is enough, you don't need 850w. even on the nvidia site, the recommended system power is 650W. the gpu itself is 250w and your cpu and everything else another 200w, so your max powerdraw is 450W. your 650W psu is good enough.
also, you don't need a fresh windows install for just changing your GPU. wait until you change your motherboard.

My best story isn't actually my story but from a friend who worked at a tech help desk at her local city hall.

She would get in calls daily of people with keyboards and mice and screens not working properly and asking her to come over and fix it.

After a while she got the hang of it and her first line when getting a malfunctioning keyboard or mouse was; "pick it up, take 6 steps back." If her client did that and wondered what the next step was she would just reply with; "now plug it back in".

Imagine getting 10 to 15 of these calls a day and everyone wanting you to come over and help you.. would drive me insane..

For those games I think you could get away with a i7 6700 instead of a 7700. If you don't plan on overclocking it you don't have to get a k version.

8GB of ddr4 ram is sufficient but rather have 16GB, should be good to go

Also, for a power supply I would rather take a 650W just to be safe.

Isn't there a security program for Mac? Like McAfee or Kaspersky for windows?

If you like working with Mac and it keeps on working for you I wouldn't suggest you change it. Just keep a backup offline somewhere, weekly backup onto a HDD and then put that thing on a shelf.

And I'm no security expert this is just my personal opinion

What I did with my 4 year old PC was replace GPU first and then CPU and Mobo and then add some other parts to it. Topping it off with a new case.

So now I have all the spare parts to (re)build my old PC and a new PC. Doing this in a 6 month span really helped me save up for small spending, so it's not a 1200 dollar hole in my bank account out of nowhere.

Nice research man, got to admit.

But honestly I still get why people prefer the consoles over a PC. It just has a living room setup for most people. It's plug and play in a living room so you and your buddies can go from watching a TV show to shooting pixels easy. Like it used to be with the kids that had a SNES or PlayStation 1 when I grew up.

I'm not here to advocate console gaming as better or anything, I just wouldn't dismiss it at worse or less than a PC just because of the performance.
