  1. Taking the opportunity of not being able to add custom parts to have you guys take another look at this. Please also consider the other parts lists - Stage 1 will be purchased in January, Stage 2 about a year after. Target is 1920x1080p medium-high settings, 60 FPS with some overhead for intense situations. Budget is no more than (for now) 1316.79€. Flaws I see: Sound Blaster Z. Not confident with "gaming" or "audiophile "hardware. Recommendations? (I am really satisfied with current setup: cheap onboard audio -> Pioneer VSK-828 -> SONY MDR-XB450) STRIX 1050 Ti vs 1060 6GB EX OC Some explanations: Windows 7->Skylake because old games, used to it, like it No 5.25" bay for standard internal optical drive. Fit next to HDD cage? (Internal (->SATA) ODD required for W7 and Skylake due to missing USB drivers, as well as PS/2 peripherals) 50€ rubber-dome keyboard because MX Brown's would drive my roommates insane (Setup will be in living room) Somewhat expensive components (worst offender: STRIX B250 mainboard for 128€) because aesthetics (because the S340 Elite is the closest thing to a plain black box, except for the window. Would gladly take one with two steel side panels) Thanks for reading.
  2. This blog article states that you can install Windows 7 on a sytem missing xHCI USB drivers from a USB flash drive with drivers included. Aren't the missing drivers preventing the USB drive from being recognized entirely -> install over SATA with PS/2 peripherals?
  3. Trying to revive this I realized my external optical drive is connected via USB and therefore unuseable for the installation (dumbass, but at least I realized before buying anything). Can I Install Windows from a USB drive that has xHCI drivers on them (Using RT Seven Lite) or will I need to buy a internal (->SATA) optical drive and just leave it connected for regular installation?
  4. Warum nicht selber die .ISO erstellen, mit Programmen, Dateien usw. drauf?
  5. Is there anything preventing me from making a backup copy of the installation disk? Also, does the installation disk include system repair tools?
  6. I appreciate everyones efforts here, it's not like I'm too lazy to just Google stuff myself but I literally haven't heard anything about W7 missing xHCI drivers for example, that would've been a nice surprise for my first build
  7. ...Or I could just download the drivers using PS/2 peripherals, right?
  8. Didn't mean to start WWIII lmao I have some games from my childhood that I know work on Windows 7, I don't want to set up a VM or anything. Also Windows 10 has been a scam and really I don't see a reason why I should upgrade. A few clocks more on i5-7500 instead of i5-6400, surveillance "security" updates...anything else? Also, what about malware-proofing, I am very aware on the internet and never got any malware/bloatware or shitty toolbars but I'm afraid of a huge waves of exploits after Microsoft ends support 2020. VM wouldn't protect against bootloaders, rootskits and stuff like that right? Perhaps cloning whole drive or imaging?
  9. Is there anything that I need to keep in mind when installing Windows 7 64-bit on Skylake other than missing xHCI drivers?
  10. Can I save 15€ on getting a mATX board or will I have trouble connecting front panel audio jacks or anything like that?
  11. I think I'll be fine on integrated graphics, even a 1030 is not worth it. Might only be a year of saving
  12. Well, I do not expect the 1060 6GB which already is my GPU of choice to go down rapidly, we'll see when Volta releases, until then, iGPU is required (I'd rather not buy a second gpu). Already considered Ryzen but it doesn't turn out much cheaper.
