Is that a partition you made or did the installer set it up that way?

Realistically you only need 2 partitions, 1 for EFI(Fat32) and 1 for root "/", if this was done during the installation, i would re-install with default partition (wipe/format) options.

The installer set it up this way. I dont know why it gave me 4 partitions by default or why only one of them is working. I'm thinking it might be some weirdness due to me switching over from windows? idk.

For anything related to the partitions in my machine, I use the AOMEI Partition Assistant for two reasons.  First, it does everything and anything that I need it to do.  Second reason, it's FREE.  Just don't forget to hit the apply button in the top left corner inbetween steps.

    Good Luck.

also this partition manager appears to be for windows only

  4. Just converted my Win10 laptop to Kubuntu linux, this is my first time using it. I'm having some trouble trying to format and allocate my internal HDD. As you can see in the picture, the drive and its partitions are recognized in partition manager, but i only have 30GB of available internal storage when it should be in the hundreds. No clue how to fix this, any newbie-friendly explanation would be awesome, thanks.

  5. So recently I have had issues with my PC randomly freezing. This only started happening since about a few months ago, and never before that. 99% of the time it will happen while I'm away from my PC for an extended period of time, but rarely it will happen while I'm using it too. It's also not a full on freeze of the system. I can still move my mouse around and type using the keyboard, but every program, including basic windows stuff like file manager is unresponsive upon opening, and the only solution is to fully shut my PC off and turn it back on. I have absolutely no idea what could be causing this and it's driving me nuts. Any and all help is appreciated.

  6. So recently I have been encountering an issue where if i leave my pc on for extended periods while not using it, when i come back to it windows will be semi-frozen. I don't know exactly how to describe it, but every application window that i leave open (mainly steam and discord) are totally unresponsive, and my mouse is frozen onscreen. The taskbar still kinda works, but i cant click anything on it and the search function never returns any results. If anyone knows what's causing this I'd be super grateful, as it's been driving me nuts having to restart my pc every time i come back to it.

Although this would not explain why Windows isn't showing the interface just for shits'n'giggles did you verify that the cable both works and is connected at the other end by using another computer?

Additionally are there any lights at all when you initially connect the cable and wait a few seconds or none what-so-ever?

Unfortunately I do not have another computer with which to test the cable, but the cable is connected at both ends. Also, I have used 3 other CAT5 cables to make sure it isn't just a faulty cable and none of them worked either.

Also, no lights at all. Although, looking more closely at the back of my mobo, I don't even see any lights there in the first place. The IO shield covers everything except the ports.

That's the idea. If/when we get Ethernet working again don't leave the Wi-Fi NIC in there. That or disable it. Save yourself a headache down the road.

Where you plug the Ethernet cable into the motherboard there should be two LED's connected/next to the port. The color can vary but one should be solid the other should be blinking. These indicate that there is a working link between the port and the switch (solid), the other indicates activity on the link(blinking).

I'm assuming these LEDs would be on the back where the IO shield is. Anyways, I do not see any LEDs on/blinking near that port.

In my opinion I would leave the Wi-Fi NIC out if it's not going to be actively used at this time. It adds unnecessary complexity and given Windows tendencies you could find yourself with Wi-Fi performance on a Wired connection because Windows decides to default to the Wi-Fi for no good reason. (There's ways around this but why bother if the Wi-Fi isn't needed.)

This isn't the first time I've dealt with NIC's not showing up in Network Connections but the fact you're not seeing it in Device Manager and you have no entry for unrecognized devices makes me think Windows isn't seeing the NIC period.

What are the chances you disabled the NIC in the BIOS? Do you get any activity indicator LED's on the port?

The Wi-Fi NIC is currently the only way I can use internet on this machine so it is somewhat needed but I'll happily take it out if I can find a surefire solution to getting my ethernet connection back.

Also, I checked MSI click bios and I didn't see any kind of option to disable/enable ethernet connections. The only network related setting was enable/disable LAN PCIe related shenanigans. As for activity indicator LEDs, I don't know what they'd look like or where they'd be located on my mobo.

  10. So I recently had to move my PC out of my office, and therefore bought a wifi card since I couldn't use an ethernet connection anymore. However, I've moved my PC back into my office and I am trying to use an Ethernet connection again since it's faster. But for some reason, after having installed the wifi card, windows doesn't seem to think my PC is even CAPABLE of having an ethernet connection, despite the fact that I have a working CAT5 cable plugged directly into my router from my mobo. There is no ethernet adapter in device manager, and no ethernet connection in network connections. I'm pulling my hair out trying to fix this, and any help at all is appreciated.unknown.png

  11. Okay so I've tried a couple different things. I thought potentially the cause of the buzz was a ground loop, so I switched my PC's wall outlet. No dice there. However, I noticed when I touch my PC case the humming goes away. No clue why that fixed it, but I obviously cant touch my pc case 24/7. I tried changing the USB port my mic is plugged into, which didn't help at all. I'm so confused here. Honestly I might just break down and buy some new headphones.

  12. So I recently purchased an Archer T5E wifi card for my pc. However, after installing the card, one of my friends remarked they were able to hear a buzzing noise whenever I talked on Discord. I'm 99% sure this is caused by some sort of interference from the wifi card, as I did not have this issue until I installed the card. I've been pulling my hair out trying to find ways to fix this, but nothing I've tried has seemed to work. If any of you audio wizards could help I'd be very grateful.

BTW I have a pair of HyperX Cloud II headphones, if that helps any.

ok. BTW, sorry, i didnt see that in the sig.

can you try that boot drive in another pc?

unfortunately i cant move the boot drive, this is my only desktop

If you're at that loading screen, you're ok to reboot the system. Might corrupt the OS at worse but highly unlikely it will do anything to your motherboard.

alright. i'll try power cycling and see what happens.

  14. So I just finished installing a new windows update, labeled under AMD. I restarted my pc to finish the process, and after my bios splash screen goes away, I'm greeted with the windows loading symbol over a black screen. It's been about an hour since then, and nothing has changed. Just those little windows loading dots spinning around in circles. I feel like I should restart my pc again but I dont want to potentially brick my mobo. Any help or solutions to this problem are appreciated.

There's not really a direct replacement fan for the Wraith cooler unless you happen to have another one. If not, might as well just use it as an excuse to get a better cooler.

Yeah i was thinking of copping an new cooler anyways, wanted to OC. Just dropped $100 on a CM MA620M and 2 more case fans... my wallet hurts but my processor won't :D

    thanks for the help

are you sure your fan is even spinning?

update your BIOS first, and use a wired KB/mouse to make sure it works.

Yes I have a side panel, it is spinning.

My bios is up to date, and my keyboard is wired.

I've had this happen before due to the speed sensor in the fan going bad. Even though it was still working just fine physically, sometimes the tachometer signal would drop out and report 0rpm giving a CPU fan error and PC would shut down to protect itself because it thinks the fan stopped working.

Though it shouldn't be related to your BIOS freezing up. Is it on the latest BIOS?

Yes it is on the latest BIOS. Also it looks like the tachy signal might be the issue, CAM gives an "n/a" for fan RPM. Any way to fix this?

  17. I Have a Ryzen 5 2600X CPU with the default cooler on it. It has served me great and I've had zero issues until recently. Recently I've been getting CPU fan errors whenever i boot up, and once in a blue moon my PC will shut down entirely (i'm assuming due to throttling). This usually happens when playing GTA online. I have no clue what is causing this, as my fan is on tight, i am not overclocked and the CPU temps only reach ~70c max, even at high loads. I tried going into my BIOS to change my fan settings, but MSI click BIOS has been ****ing up too. It just locks up the second I enter the BIOS. i have no clue if this is due to it not recognizing my keyboard and mouse or if it's truly frozen. Any help with these issues would be appreciated.

  18. so I have an NZXT S340 case with RGB lights in it, and a Corsair Ironclaw wireless mouse. For some reason whenever I have my mouse plugged in and I unplug it, the RGB lights in my s340 shut off and refuse to turn back on unless i turn my pc all the way off and back on again. I have zero clue why this happens, and any help on how to fix it is appreciated.
