Grays0n got a reaction from RXGT Recon in Performing below potential
The main issue I have with UserBenchmark is that they put your performance and compare it to other people's benchmarks who also have overclocked cards. It's not a fair benchmarking tool and shouldn't be used as a reference if your card is performing up to snuff or not.

Grays0n got a reaction from BuzzLookAnAlien in USB Power Surge
I just did more organizing and got rid of things I don't actually use, so I am back in business without the USB hub.
I don't plan on using it again. I do not have a death wish for my computer.

Sorry, I was unclear. That's my fault.
The message did not stop sending, it was actually spamming non-stop. I had to remove all of the USB devices for it to stop sending. It was pretty scary, ahaha.
I do have an update, however.
I just searched for Windows Updates and I installed them and found a way to uninstall all USB drivers. I restarted my computer, and the inputs that were previous failing me are now working!
This may be too early to tell, however. I have not plugged in everything I previously had before.
Time to check. Thanks for the help regardless!
UPDATE
I have now plugged every previous device (without the usb hub) and everything seems to be working normal.
Thanks, again!

Yeah, I have no idea. It just kills all USB input.

Grays0n got a reaction from BuzzLookAnAlien in USB Power Surge
So, I was just minding my own business in a Discord call, then all of a sudden I heard the notification sound Windows 10 makes when you unplug a USB device. This happened several times. I mean, 10 times. I noticed there was an error message on the bottom right corner of my screen (I can't get a hold of the exact notification, as it doesn't show up in my recent notifications). The notification read, "USB Power Surge from Unknown USB Device." I noticed my mouse and keyboard didn't work, and they were plugged into a USB hub. I then thought, "Well, it must be the USB hub causing the problem." I unplugged the USB hub, and managed around my other USB devices (Logitech G933 USB Connector, Zowie Mouse, Keyboard, Bluetooth Adapter, and Xbox One Controller Adapter). Unfortunately, after ditching the USB hub the problem is still occurring and I have no idea what is causing it. I have to plug my mouse and keyboard in the front two USB ports, as the USB ports on the rear are none-responsive.
I thought it could be a motherboard problem, but before I try anything that requires me opening the computer - I'd like to hear suggestions and if someone has had the same issue I am having.
I'd like to avoid spending money at all. Of course, if I have to I will. I need this computer for school work so fixing this as soon as possible would be preferred.
Thanks!

Glad to help. If you are in the market for a new mobo, try to get something that has more than just the two fan headers if possible. Personally, I prefer Asus boards.

They function totally independently of each other. You'll see both displays in your gpu's video options manager and have the ability to set the refresh rate independently for each monitor. My GTX 1070 in my computer is driving a 120Hz 1920x1080 display and a 60Hz 1680x1050 display no problem.

should manage it fine at stock, maybe even light overclocking

It will be "fine".
Not super quiet, not much good for overclocking.

You can definitely overclock a little bit (assuming decent airflow in your case), or at the very least turn on multi-core-enhancement (e.g. running all cores at the 4.5 GHz turbo frequency).
My particular 7700k did 4.7GHz under a Evo-212 before delidding (although temperatures were certainly on the warmer side).

It would suffice for running at stock speeds, maybe a slight overclock if you get a good chip. Before I delidded my 7700k, It broke 80C under load at stock speeds, underneath a Corsair H110i. I guess the TIM on mine was particularly bad. I would however suggest that if you are trying to stay around that price, that you go with the cryorig H7 instead. I have found it performs a little bit better than the 212 evo.

Grays0n reacted to RadiatingLight in i7 6800k throttling at 40°c
40c is super cold.
CPUs should throttle at 95c or even higher in some cases.
download a better temp monitoring program? like HWinfo

I wouldn't exactly call the Alienware branding a good thing...

Grays0n reacted to Windows7ge in bios help
Well you have a few options:
If you turned it into a .zip or .7zip file you should be able to extract the contents. To zip it in the first place you have to have the program necessary to unzip it (the same program). You should be able to double click on it. It may ask you to extract the contents. If so just send the file to your desktop (easy) and it'll extract the BIOS update.
Other Option:
Download the BIOS update again from the motherboard manufacturers website and don't zip it this time.

This is also a really good monitor but it kind of lacks in the looks department. If you don't care about looks this is probably your best bet. If you do mine might be better suited.

Grays0n reacted to Mantix in Help Me Find a Gaming Monitor
I'd suggest going with 1080p and a 144hz refresh rate.

This one is my suggestion. Asus is a really solid brand and offers great customer service.
Note: it supposedly doesn't come with a HDMI cable
