  1. I have a small shed on my property that is about 120 yards from my house and I would like to have internet access there. The shed is in line of sight, but has an all metal construction. What is the cheapest solution for maximum performance given my circumstances?
  2. I am installing a new sound system into my 2007 Ford F-150 extended cab. I am familiar with home audio solutions, but the car audio seems to be different in a lot of ways. Please help me with this system and see if the components are compatible and if they will work well together. Recommendations on things that I need to change to make the system better and/or save money are what I am looking for. Also is this overkill for a single cab pickup truck? My max budget overall is $400. Thanks! - JP
  3. I am looking into building a NAS server for my house and us it as a HTPC in our living room. The server needs to be accessible over our local network and possibly around the world in the future. How much RAM I will need for these tasks? I also want to use some ssd's as a cache, but I have no idea what I will need to access all of the time. How much cache should be enough? Or should I use SSHD's What graphics card would be enough to push 4k 60hz video playback off of local storage? Is there a case that has around 8 hard drive bays, and has good cooling, but also good sound dampening? i am unsure about putting this in the most commonly used room in the house.
  4. I was stupid when I built my first computer thinking that I would need to be able to upgrade to 64gb of RAM in the future, so I bought a single stick of 16gb 3000mhz CL15 RAM. 16gb turned out to be enough for a lot of things after all, but I am in a bind. I don't know how big the difference is, but I use CAD, Adobe CC suite, and games on a daily basis and I think my single channel memory is throttling my computer. Should I sell my 1x16 stick for a loss and get a cheaper 2x8 kit? Or should I stick it and buy another stick for 32gb?
  5. TLDR: - Speaker mount for Polk S15 - $50 max for a pair - maneuverable mount So I just picked up 4 Polk Audio S15 speakers for my living room home theater setup. The speakers in the front will sit on the media center below the TV, but the back speakers will have to be mounted on the ceiling/wall and be pointed down. I have looked at a lot of brackets for this, but they are too expensive for my taste, especially when I don't know if it will work. The speakers do have hole at the back for mounting, but I am unsure what type of bracket to buy. The absolute maximum price for a PAIR of brackets is $50, and the mount needs to be moveable so that we can point them in the correct direction. Any feedback is appreciated!
  6. This looks like a lot better deal than the Sony system, but I'm not sure if this will work with my receiver, since the wattage may be too low. I have an old Sony STR-DE705, the first link is from Amazon, and the second is the manual for it. https://www.amazon.com/Sony-STR-DE705-Stereo-FM-AM-Receiver/dp/B00THFFP6S https://www.hifiengine.com/manual_library/sony/str-de705.shtml If this is not going to work, can you recommend an inexpensive alternative that won't exceed the $550 overall budget if I so choose to go with the Def Tech System?
  7. My parents have just now decided to inform me that the speakers need to be small and hidden away. I wish this wasn't the case, but a all-in-one system is looking like the solution now, since they wan't the speakers hidden in the corners of the room. Will this one suffice? https://www.sony.com/electronics/all-in-one-home-cinema-systems/bdv-n5200w
  8. I need help with my home theater setup

  9. TLDR: - I need a speaker setup for music, home theater, etc... - preferably 5.1 - Absolute max is $550 - price does not include receiver, I already have one - need mounts for only 2 of the speakers - This is what I have right now - https://pcpartpicker.com/user/MichealJoeden/saved/ttwyXL - please use B&H, Amazon, or Newegg I am parting out a home theater system for my parents' living room. It is not a large room, but since it is open to the rest of the house it will likely serve as a music system that needs to be loud enough to be heard from everywhere. I swayed them away from complete systems, because they seemed to be lacking in speaker quality for the price point we were looking into. The front speakers can be placed on the media center, so they do not need a mount, but the rear speakers have no place to sit, so the budget must include mounts, as well as enough speaker wire to reach everything. Length is not a concern, just the quality, gauge, and insulation for an attic. Our budget is $500 USD, but $550 would be accepted including mounts and wire. No receiver is needed, since we already have one capable of 5.1. Here is the one that I already did, I am not sure if these are the best speakers for our application, but from research this is what I could scrounge together. https://pcpartpicker.com/user/MichealJoeden/saved/ttwyXL https://pastebin.com/RwGr9xHs

    New TV

You could go for a cheaper tv, but the image quality would be worse. LG's smart OS is the best in the business so that is a plus. Also the build quality is unmatched. If you wanted to go cheaper than I would go with this, but otherwise you are looking at the best non-oled 4k 50-60 inch tv out there. https://www.bestbuy.com/site/sharp-55-class-54-6-diag--led-2160p-smart-4k-ultra-hd-tv-roku-tv/5712157.p?skuId=5712157
  11. I would take the job, maybe you could get some free parts, or discounts?
  12. This is with a 100ft Ethernet cable ran from one end of my house to the other, so this is usually around the 20s on wifi with my netgear r8500 and in the 50s with the cable ran though a router then to my my computer.
