WindowsXP16 got a reaction from Yeun7 in Stuck Pixel
You can fix a stuck pixel by playing this video for a bit until it disappears:

Also another quick fix is to get a blunt object like a stylus and lightly press and keep tapping on the stuck pixel until it disappears. I have a Samsung Sync-Master from 2007 which showed the same issue back in 2011 for a couple of times and both fixes worked. I still use the monitor daily as a second monitor and it has not exhibited the same issue since.

Lithium batteries will often read slightly higher than designed capacity when new. The capacity will drop over time.

The battery in my phone was the same way.

    Just a data point.

I've found the seller, Lee to be honest, reliable and the kits are of reasonable standard - I've put 40 of them in a school.

Delivery time for these kits is quick - as the eBay listing says, they're held in Regent's Park, Sydney - 2 days.

Highly, highly recommend. (and no, not a paid ad or any commercial affiliation. Just a satisfied customer.)

It's fairly reliable. The only thing (in my experience with it) is that you need to install `msxml6` in Winetricks, and also OneNote doesn't work due to some 'Desktop Experience' thing being required. Also, ensure you have a phone or your activation key because Internet activation isn't working in 2013. Same in 2016.

WindowsXP16 reacted to Unimportant in Identifying Blown Surface Mount Resistor (anyone have a BitFenix Recon fancontroller)
    Diodes can fail both ways.
If it goes short it could be the direct cause of the fried resistor, but the rest of the circuit might be fine because the short would prevent the rest of the circuit seeing any voltage.
If it fails open then the rest of the circuit would've been exposed to the full unregulated input voltage, with more damage probably done.

*if* it's a zener voltage regulator.

Resistors don't just explode for no reason, there's probably more issues. I'd try to reconstruct the schematic myself by following the connections (with a multimeter for the traces you can't visibly follow), figure out what the circuit does and what could cause that resistor to blow, then test those things first before applying power again and possibly doing more damage.

The SOD80 diode next to it has a blue ring, those tend to be zeners. So it could be a crude resistor-zener voltage regulator, test the diode first.

you could use regular style resistors and just bend the leads to touch the old contact points where the surface mount one used to be.

you might be casting a very small net here trying to find someone who also has one of these as most people don't really do the external fan controller thing anymore.

    i'll admit i 100% was guessing.

you could try a resistor that you know will be much more resistance then it needs and work backwards from there until the thing fires back up.

WindowsXP16 reacted to dizmo in ssd capacity
If you're just using it like a normal consumer, don't even worry about it.
If you do more writes than most, consider leaving a bit open, as others have said, 25% is a good value to have, though not absolutely necessary.
It's also often built into the drive, so most people don't have to worry about over provisioning themselves.

Also I forgot to mention have you done trim on the ssd, and leave extra space for the ssd for overprovisioning (garbage collection). Atleast 10-15% space shall do it.

I'm not the only one who gets a miners are entitled vibe, am I?

Look, I don't care if you can flash cash, it doesn't mean I respect you. Graphics cards marked up to ridiculous amounts, strain on power grids while offering nothing in return -- and you're actually shocked about ill will?

You never hear infrastructure strain for people who F@H, do you? It's all personal greed for what are bytes of data.

We're not talking shutting power off to the cold or whatever. This is people complaining they are being complained about for being a nuisance and you can't sugar coat it. Anyone who mines on a card or two aren't the ones contributing to this problem. It's the people who think they can throw money at problems that's the problem

If you wish to go solar or actually try to raise funds to improve your local grid, all the power in the world to you. Otherwise you come off as hella entitled.

Yes. Cryptos in their current state do not work as currency. There's no way you can sustain the prospect of everyone making their payments with bitcoin, litecoin or what have you. Maybe one day, but not before 2-3 years at least.

How do I not know this about NANO, holy shit. Seems pretty amazing.

Non-minable cryptos are the future, I have spoken.
Say the textile industry consumed 20%+ of a town's power. You wouldn't be concerned, because at the same time, this industry is creating jobs for the town and attracting startups. Mining doesn't create jobs, one person can manage millions of dollars worth of mining hardware.

We have a problem that's only going to get worse - too many people, too few jobs. Eventually one of the two numbers are gonna have to budge. Sentiment about wanting to have children is already going bad in a lot of first world countries.

I think I went off on a tangent though.

WindowsXP16 reacted to Daysy in Is this a ripoff - Ebay Arduino Kit
I'd say you are getting your money's worth of components but if this is your first step into arduino it may be of better value for you to get a cheaper more basic kit to start playing around with the basics, learning the skills you need to successfully complete bigger projects in the future and then just ordering those parts required for what you want to create.

So far as arduino "clones" go, there isn't really any such thing. The arduino project is open source hardware and software so while the very cheap boards can have issues and are best left alone buying from China shouldn't cause problems as they are built to the same hardware specs as the official "Genuino" boards. Buying from the arduino foundation simply helps to fund the work they do with education e.c.t
