Of course, 2010 was a bad season. Diseased crops, cold weather and low yields. Didnt have the choice to be picky at that time.

Anywho, figured people posted their watches so I'd post one of mine. Havent been here in a while, noticed there was watch talk and posted. Didnt think it would have such a polarizing response.

Next time I'll take off the filters and post my modded Casio on a can of Bud so I dont look like an influencer poseur POS or whatever 🤣

Not sure what's funnier. The over priced bottle of Champagne, the filter, the terribly compressed photo or the fact you're trying to flex your watch on an over priced bottle of Champagne..

Also from what I'm told by my customers who bought Dom Perignon (when we had it in stock) the 2008 Vintage was better than the 2009 & 2010..

Im a big fan of timepieces. I never leave the house without one. Although my bottles tend to get the most wrist time when I take pictures 😅

My early 80s GMT Pepsi. Loved that watch. Had to sell it to buy a car for my new at the time family. It had unauthorized service at some point, it needed a new dial, and the bracelet wasn't correct, but it worked.

I have this kintsugi dial, and I've bought a bronze flieger style case for it, I think it'll look good.
But this is a kinda eccentric dial, so I was having trouble choosing hands for it.
I do like the candle fire hour hand, but not sure about the diamond minute hand or the second hand...
I mean the sword hand I have probably would suit it, since they go with most things, but yeah.
    Looking for opinions rn.

I do have these hands on the way, I was thinking of using the second hand from this kit:

Speaking of buying watches after a couple drinks, after a few glasses of Berry Bros. & Rudd's 2007 Glen Moray single malt, which by the way is a deliciously smooth and creamy Scotch with strong and distinctive banana notes (banana not being something I've encountered before in a scotch), I bought myself my first Timex. I'd resisted buying Timex Q watches in the past because they're kinda pricey for what they are (a very basic quartz watch), but I've always fancied their Falcon eye.

I saw that Timex were doing a 25% off sale during the bank holiday weekend, and it was £119.25 delivered.
I thought at that time was a great deal, so I bought it "Wow, what a bargain AH↓HA↑HA↑HA↑HA↑"
Turns out it's just an okay deal, since they've gone for about £10 less in the past, but yeah, it could've been worse.
It arrived an hour ago or so.
Credit where it's due, it's a very pretty watch. Those blue waves on the dial seem to move as light hits the dial at differing angles. The gold accents give it just enough tack to authenticate the watch's 70s inspiration.
The brushing is the right coarsness to make the watch look properly vintage, the polishing is done well too.
It's a bit light, but that's probably because I'm used to wearing automatic divers, rather than quartz fashion pieces.
The bracelet is definately a weak point, but it's not as bad as I thought it was going to be, it's half a step up from the likes included with cheap Casios and Vostoks.
I think they could've gone for a crystal with a bit more distortion, but I'd always prefer a acrylic crystal over a mineral one, since both will inevitably and easily scratch, but acrylic can be polished very easily and quickly.
No, the second hand doesn't hit the markers, but neither do many Swiss/Japanese pieces costing several times what this does.

Well, guess it's time to shop for a strap, though I might have something for it already.

I wish Timex put a VH31 (or similar) quartz inside this, because it really would've made it into a more faithful reissue. If it did have a mecha quartz, the £120 tag might of been completely worth it. Oh well, maybe next time.

Yeah they aren't as refined for sure, but you can't really fault Orient for wanting to have their own movement, even if it isn't as good and shares parts with the Seiko NH3x movements.
They're definitely not bad movements though, it's nice to have something different sometimes.

Interchangable hands are good to know about, since there's tonnes of custom NH3x hands on the market. Though I think the stock hands suit the watch.

Mutoh reacted to DrMacintosh in Star Trek or Star Wars?
It's like this. As a kid, Star Wars is cool. Scary dark helmet man, space magic, cool ships, etc...... but Star Trek is for a more mature audience. There's no action packed ground combat in Star Trek (sans Kelvin Timeline), space battles are usually really narrow in scope, and there's not a lot of action. Star Trek is dialog focused and is really a lot of space politics and morality lessons. Star Trek is much more character focused as well imo. The characters move the story more than the plot forces the characters to do something.

Is Star Trek less cool than Star Wars? Yes. You can't be cooler than a Storm Trooper. But Star Trek is something you really grow to appreciate and love if you have an attention span.

I love both francises, but Star Trek has so much more content than Star Wars and imo the universe is more interesting, more diverse, and is way more creative.

Not sure if it's too late but here's mine:

First up is a diver/GADA watch. I went with the Zodiac Super Sea Wolf 53:
It's a classic swiss diver with all the horological weight you'd have out of a Submariner or Fifty Fathoms without the outrageous price tag. I'm a big fan of skin divers and these guys offer loads of options. USD 1093

Next up is something for a dressier occasion. I'm a big fan of tank style cases and since most people don't wear a dress watch as a daily, I went for something with a quartz movement but still has a bit of class. It's a Hamilton Ardmore Classic:
Nice, vintage style piece. Small enough to wear under a suit but still wears bigger than it seems, interesting dial design and also has a sub-second complication which is nifty (and might bug people less if you don't like jumping seconds). USD 600

Next up is a mechanical chronograph. There are tons of companies that do different case sizes, styles etc... but I went with the classic Seagull/HKED 1963:
It's a fully mechanical chronograph based on and made with the original Venus 175 tooling machines. Allegedly used by the Chinese army as a pilots watch. Swan neck regulated, column wheel traditional chronograph that works wonders. Really pretty with an open case back. Comes in a traditional 36-38mm case size or a bigger 40mm one from companies like EMG. USD 280

For the forth piece, I went for something a little off piste. It's not complications that everybody will use but considering the price and bang for you buck, it's a solid piece. The Glycine Airman GMT:

This piece features a GMT complication on top of being a 24h watch. Mostly useful for pilots to keep track of multiple timezones and AM/PM but still nifty for an automatic piece under 1k USD. Comes in various sizes and styles. USD 830

And for the final piece, something you could use as a daily but still look classy while doing it. The Timex Marlin Automatic Day/Date:
It's a revival of Timex's handcranker from the 60s but with an updated movement featuring automatic winding and a day/date complication. Comes in sizes ranging from 34mm to 40mm and in many different dial colors. A super strap monster too since it looks good on straps, natos or even mesh bracelets if that's your thing. USD 229

    Total USD 3032

A little over 3k USD but I would consider it quite a sweet 5 watch collection. Lots of different styles, complication and history behind each piece and you're doing it whilst looking pretty fly IMO.

EDIT: LOL totally didn't read the post right before mine, but enjoy the choices anyway.

that is quite odd, almost like a system error in pricing because that just doesn't make sense to have a gap like that, usually its like up to 50 bucks difference for the same item.
