  1. Hi all. My current ongoing project is to build the most efficient system I can in a Lian-li PC-Q02. Currently, I am planning to put in a picoPSU and use the SFX PSU mount space for an intake/exhaust duct for the CPU cooler. Does anyone know of any reasonable way to get a 3D model or drawings of the case? I really do not want to start from scratch.
  2. @NovaMan01, I did think 16GB of RAM was too much. Isnt 600W PSU an overkill for a build like this? Also, you did not put it any storage into the part list you provided, so I presume you suggest getting the cheapest HDD at 500GB, or lower. @mok, thank you for the suggestion. I am not sure about going blue yet, but will look into it. The grand idea here is to run everything at once. So someone is editing the documents, or surfing the web in one room, while everyone else is watching a movie on a 4K TV in the other one. Latest part list: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/YFvGpb I dropped the WiFi enabled motherboard (for now), substituted SSD for a hard drive, dropped to 8GB of RAM and went for a cheaper PSU (still left high efficiency rating).
  3. Hi all, The current conundrum is a home media PC build, that can wait, but would be nice to have ready as a Christmas present. 1. The budget tops out at USD$750. It includes everything that goes into the case, and nothing else - see PCPartPicker list below. 2. The aim of the system is everyday in-home use, which includes the following: 20% mild MS Office (mostly word editing, occasional spreadsheet or presentation) 30% internet browsing 50% video playback to a 4K TV - wired or wireless. 3. Video output devices include a 1080p monitor and the aforementioned 4K TV. 4. Periferals are very much available (thanks, OCD). Windows is available. Storage is also not an issue. 5. The goal is to replace two old heaps of junk - DVD player and audio player (no, not a receiver). Current list of parts: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/HKpvBP Having watched as many videos as I possibly could describing how deep in the unspeakable current AMD APUs are, I came to the following conclusions: - Nobody really tests these things anymore for what they are supposed to provide - a smooth entertainment platform for people who don't game. - They are still rubbish. - Raven Ridge APUs are coming, and are more then enough for the uses described above. With these considerations in mind (and a power bill that is not in question, somehow), I have decided that it might be worth it to build a system with A12-9800 as a placeholder for the upcoming Raven Ridge. I would welcome suggestions: - does this idea even make sense? Or just use the TV - it's LG, it's smart and completely incomprehensible. - upgrade path - right now the A12-9800 is USD$94 on Amazon. That is a lot of money for something to recycle relatively soon. Also there is no reliable news of how much Raven Ridge is going to cost. - how to set up a proper media player PC - which OS and what software. I am not Linux allergic...yet. - to Blu-Ray, or not to Blu-Ray - some say, to Blu-Ray on a PC is too much pain, and it adds ~USD$80. And I have a spare stand alone player. - WiFi, or not - that adds ~USD$60, and its mini-ITX, with all that follows out of that. Sorry its long, I shall add TL:DR in the title at a request. Thank you all.
  4. Oi galera! So here's my very first question on LTT forum. I have an old MSI R9 280X Gaming 3G. Bought it used a while ago, planning to upgrade in the nearest future (read: as soon as Vega is out). I also managed to recently get an XSPC Razor HD7970 waterblock for cents (literally). I have washed it, flushed it and leak-tested it over a course of a week. So here is the question - which way (from own selling experience, or educated guess) is best to get the most out of both of these units? 1. Sell them separately. 2. Sell them as one, without installation 3. Install the waterblock and sell as one Any feedback will be most welcome. Thank you!
