  1. Thanks for the great response. Happy to hear that my motherboard supports 6 GB/s. I assume that the SATA port that holds my DVD drive is also 6 GB/s as well? I'm planing to remove the DVD drive in place of an SSD so I hope that port supports the latest SATA also.
  2. I would like to know if my laptop's motherboard has SATA 2 or SATA 3 connectors. I know for a fact that the hard drive is SATA 2 but it doesn't necessarily mean that the port itself is SATA 2 as well. My laptop is an ASUS k55n with and AMD A8 1.9 GHZ quad core cpu, 8GB of ram, on-board Radeon 7640G graphics, and according to CPU-Z and Speccy, my motherboard is an ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. K55N (P0) version 1.0. My laptop is one of ASUS's 2012 models so it isn't an old laptop at all. Does anyone know if the motherboard SATA ports are compatible with 3.0 GBS or 6.0 GBS or if there is any program online I can download to get this information? Thanks
  3. OK thanks for all the great replies. For those who ask my laptop is a ASUS K55n 15.6 inch notebook. AMD A8-4500m processor, 8GB RAM and Radeon 7640g graphics for anyone who wants to know. I was already planning on buying a caddy for the SSD but I was just curious if I could once remove the DVD drive, dissemble it from its caddy and put the SSD inside of the caddy that enclosed the optical drive rather than buying a separate caddy online. I was just wondering if this was possible. If not, I will defiantly look up for a caddy online. Thanks
  4. Is it possible to replace the optical drive in my laptop and use the caddy enclosure of the dvd drive for my new SSD? Or am I forced to buy a caddy rather than using the one that currently holds my optical drive? The reason for this is to of course not have to buy a caddy enclosure for my SSD whereas I can use my existing one I have that encloses my optical drive. Is this possible?
