The big ones I remember playing and all of a sudden realizing it was 4am were Overwatch(current obsession), the first kingdom hearts game, Tales of symphonia, and Borderlands.

intender got a reaction from geo3 in 144hz monitor video lagging or stuttering problem
you are trying to play a lower fps source on a high refresh monitor.  you will need to set your refresh rate on the monitor to something like 60 or 120 for it to be smooth.  most videos end up at either 30 or 60 fps, and unless your videos are encoded at 24 fps then this is going to happen.  144 is not equally divisible by 30 or 60, so somewhere in there you are going to lose some frames.  thats why most high refresh rate tv's are either at 120hz or 240hz, because they can play 24fps, 30fps, or 60fps videos without looking like crap.

you can also try enabling vsync and see if that helps.

when you first connect a drive to the router its going to index the files.  this will usually take anywhere from 10min to 45min depending on the size and speed of the drive and how full it is.   also you can look in your router to see if it has indexing options or also options to let the hdd spin down and sleep after a while.  A lot of routers will keep network drives spinning pretty much all the time by default.

Hit f8 during boot and load into safe mode and uninstall afterburner and rivatuner.  start hitting f8 after the bios loads but before windows starts to load.  if you cant get f8 to work you need to disable fast boot in the bios.

just to clarify, you do realize these two cpu's will not work in the same motherboards.  7700k will work on z170 and z270.  the 8th gen chips require z370

protection, and also a well designed card will also use the backplate to provide extra rigidity to the card so it doesnt flex, and it can help cool the components on the back of the card.  the problem is that very few cards actually use the backplate for cooling and when they do its implemented poorly.

OH and I forgot about the time that bitdefender free decided a bunch of my folders with pictures and music were viruses and deleted them.  And of course with the free version there is no way to get any of that stuff back, and support for the free version is non existent.  I managed to get most of it back with some recovery software, but I gave up on bitdefender after that.

My cheapish chinese psu caught on fire about a year and a half ago.  Luckily I was sitting next the computer when it happened and pulled the plug and it went out rather quickly on its own without too much fuss other than killing some of my hardware from what I assume was a complete loss of voltage regulation.  No more cheap power supplies for me after that.  Other than that most of the other bad stuff that happened has been my fault, like letting out the magic smoke after a vmod or something.

If you buy any of the 300 series boards you are going to have to get ahold of a 1000 series cpu and update the bios before you can run the 2700x.  you can take it to a shop and they will usually do it for a low price, you can buy a cpu, or you can get the boot kit from amd.  but they are going to want to see reciepts from where you bought the cpu, and copies of emails where you contacted the manufacturer of the motherboard about it and tried to get them to fix it.

watch out for which version of the 560 you get if you get one.  They make two versions with different core counts.  you want the 16 cu version with 1024 cores.

windows 10 likes to do this, especially if there was another OS installed on the hdd previously.  You need to look up how to take ownership of the folder.  Its not hard to do, but I could never explain it to you, I have to look up how to do it everytime it happens to me.

intender got a reaction from Squanchy in DDR4: 3000mhz vs 4000mhz Is there a difference?
I have some ddr 4000, and I dont really see much difference between it at 4000 and 3200 unless its running a game in the igpu.  the gains from 2133 up to 3000 for me were pretty consistent, but after 3200 its pretty much the same in all except some synthetic benches.  To make my point I have 8gb of the 4000mhz ram, and 16gb of 3200mhz ram.  the 3200mhz ram is in my main gaming rig, and the 4000mhz ram is in my pentium htpc running at 3600mhz because of tighter timings.  the difference in performance was not enough for me to justify buying another 8gb of the 4000mhz ram.

intender got a reaction from whoisit1118 in i3 8100 RAM Speed
First off all ddr4 ram is 2133mhz.  anything over that is technically an overclock.  the ram manufacturers test it at higher speeds and enable the speeds as an xmp profile.  when you put the ram in your computer it will default to 2133 until you either manually change the speeds and timings and voltages or enable the xmp profile.  The speed that your ram can hit (with high speed kits) will almost always be limited by the integrated memory controller on the cpu if you are running an intel chip on a z board with all the voltage options available to you.  I have some ddr4 4000 mhz in a z170 board with a pentium g4600.  Either the memory controller or the lack of vccsa voltage adjustment on the board limits me to only getting 3800mhz out of it.  I obviously had to set up the ram manually because the only xmp profile on the ram is for 4000mhz.  I run it at 3600mhz with tight timings however because it performs better like that.  in games the difference between 3000mhz and 3600mhz is very low.  I dont have hard numbers on it but when I tested it with a handful of games and benchmarks its within 1-2 fps at most.  the jump from 2400 to 3600 was noticable though.  this is with a 1050ti.  with the igpu the difference was massive.  20% or more in the couple of things I tested.  It still ran like crap either way.  overwatch went from almosst unplayable @ 1080p low settings to a steady 35-40fps most of the time.

with some 3rd party software your PC can read the files on the drive if you have some stuff you are wanting to get off of the drive, but just sticking the drive into a pc and booting into osx isnt going to happen.

Here in the US, all these robo calls and spam calls will spoof a local number.  Sometimes I get 10 or more per day on my cell.  Its most annoying when people start calling you saying they missed a call from your number.  I wish there was a way to track them down and file some kind of lawsuit against them.

intender got a reaction from Puntherline in Trade GTX 1060 6GB for RX 480 8GB Pre-order?
Unless you were going to watercool the card there is no way I would trade a 1060 for a reference rx480.  The fact that he wants to trade you makes me think something is wrong with the card.  Reference cards were not that great temp wise and the guy has probably baked it mining non stop for the last year and trying to get rid of it before it dies.

I am not an amd fanboy, but I love my rx480, I would not personally trade it for a 1060.  Most of the games that I play are dx12 games that do run better on my rx480 than they would on a 1060, and the ones that arent dx12 are mostly older games that get so high fps on any modern card it doesnt matter what you use.  I also mine crypto when I am not gaming or working on something so I like my rx480 for that as well.

intender got a reaction from NumLock21 in Asus x99 Deluxe Bent Capacitor
that is an electrolytic capacitor, they dont usually break loose like polymer capacitors do.  It looks like the leg pulled out of the capacitor slightly, but it still soldered firmly to the board.  On electrolytics you can sometimes just push the leads back down into the capacitor and everything will work fine for a while, but usually the seal on them is broken and they will leak.  the black stuff on the leg almost looks like it has already leaked some.  The other thing is that a lot of the time the capacitors in that part of the board are just filtering capacitors and the board can function mostly normally without them being there so you could just leave it as is and see if it boots.  if its a charge capacitor it probably wont boot.  That would be an easy fix for someone with soldering experience though.

I have a corsair commander mini that I use to control my fans, and it came with some rgb strips that it can also control.  it has to have an internal usb 2.0 header to work though.  It is a good product, but the software uses about 4% cpu all the time.  Luckily once it loads the profiles you can kill the software and it runs without it and you can launch it again if you need to change anything.

nzxt also has the grid+ v2 which I think looks like a really decent product, and I use the CAM software for monitoring my gpu and cpu temps.  I have never used the nzxt product but its about $20 cheaper than the corsair one and would probably be my choice of the 2.  at the time I bought mine they were closer in price and the commander came with the rgb strips and 2 120AF fans which I needed for another computer so it made sense for me to spend the extra money on it, and I already had some corsair products that it could work with.
