you're not doing 20 meters without some saucy stuff on the display cable side of things, and you need some sort of non-standard solutions for peripherals as well, because 20m on usb is NOT a thing.

so yeah.. it's either expensive cables, or a software solution. doesnt have to be thunderbolt 3, but if it isnt thunderbolt you'll be running multiple 20m runs, which do add up quickly as well.

Well 20m USB 3.0 is a thing, integrating signal boosters, quite expensive but I've already seen a few options.

And yes, that's the thing, running 3 DP/HDMI cables and an USB 3.0 will get near 400€, and that's not the only pain, but routing 4 cables sound like a massive pain in the ass, still cheaper than the thunderbolt option tbh.

If you have a windows pro licence and are planning to use in the same network, the built in windows remote connection might be a consideration, but i don't know if it can do 120hz.

I remember using moonlight back in the day, it could do 120hz, but idk if also 4k at the same time, and if that support multi monitor, haven't looked into it for a while.

I've check it up, it seems that up to 16 4k display can be used at once, catches are, I also don't know if 120fps is possible and it seems that wouldn't work for graphic tablets neither the 3dconnnexion mouse.

  3. Hi!

In 6 months or so I would like to plan to get a new desktop and I was thinking in having the new PC in the next room, the idea as Linus himself has done several times is to not have the noise and heat in the same room that I'm working in.

One of the solutions would be the corning Thunderbolt 3 Fiber Optic cable Linus has used in the following video:

But there're several catches, one is the price, cable plus a thunderbolt base with several outputs would be +600€, secondly I would like to have compatibility for up to 3x4K UHD Displays, better at least 3 DP 1.4 or 3 HDMI 2.1 so I don't need to change them any time soon.

The only 2 options that I came with so far:

    • Buying 3 display cables either DP 1.4 or HDMI 2.1 and one or 2 USB 3.0 with a repeater, that will end being a thick boi cable to route.
    • Using remote desktop via lan connection, but I don't have a clue if it's possible to do so many display at once and what would be the max bandwith I can use (the house has cat 6, lenght below 50m), also probably not support for graphic tablets.

    Any suggestions or different approaches?
    Summary:

    • Distance in case of using cables would be around 20m between desktop and displays, etc.
    • Less than 400€ if possible.
    • Having native display quality or something really similar.
    • Being able to use a graphic tablet and a 3dconnexion space mouse (usb), aside from the standar peripherals.
    •  3x4k UHD up to 120Hz

I appreciate any idea, explanation or suggestion, thanks in advance! 🙂

I think that NVIDIA uses different vent design on the IO shield, other than that it looks fairly accurate.

    Good Job 😀

    Example:

Yeah, I should have included at least one USB type C, or maybe 2, I can still change it, but now it too late to catch the hype train.
