  1. So realy it seems like the heatsink and fan is just not enough for this card. Is there any relatively simple way to upgrade the cooling?
  2. Yeah the front panel dosnt let much air through, but I removed it and ran another test and sure enough it shot right up to 82 degrees unfortunately.
  3. I actually just replaced the thermal paste today. Everything looked right when I had it apart, but something has to be wrong don't you think?
  4. The reason it looks like that is because I took off the plastic cover because I was desperate to try something but yea its an EVGA card. The throttling I'm running into acts like this. If I'm running a game in a spot that has the gpu at 99%, it reaches 82 degrees under 3 minutes and at that point I have seen the clock speed as low as 1500 MHz and even a noticeable reduction in frame rate too. The boost clock for the card is 1800 MHz.
  5. Hello. As the title suggests, I've been running into issues with my 1060 running too hot, up to 82 degrees before it starts to throttle. I have tried numerous things to improve the temperatures but I'm out of ideas and need some advice. So let me start by describing my system. The GPU in question is an EVGA 1060 6gb (non SC). I'm running a Ryzen 5 1600 with the stock cooler on a mini ITX board in a Phanteks Evolv Mini ITX enclosure. Now, I understand mini ITX PCs get hot, but my case has a 200mm intake fan in the front, and a 120mm exhaust fan in the back, and their seems to be plenty of airflow, not to mention the system is plenty noisy with all the fans running. I have adjusted the gpu fan curve to be much more aggressive. At idle it runs at 40% and at its hottest 82 degrees the fan is at 84%. I also changed the thermal paste since I got the card back in 2017 but that has made no difference. I also removed the plastic shroud because why not. I think the real problem is with the absolutely garbage cooler on the gpu. I mean EVGA realy cheaped out on this one and it shows. So I guess the question is what should I try to bring this things temperatures down? I'm open to suggestions and would appreciate the advice.
  6. What about future games? Considering the PS5 and Series X have 8 core cpus I'm thinking that in the future 6 cores systems might fall behind.
  7. Hello. I'm currently beginning to plan out a new PC build to target 1440p 120fps and I'm not sure what CPU is the better pick. The outgoing Ryzen 7 3800X with 8 cores, or the new Ryzen 5 5600X with just 6 cores. I'm realy thinking about long term preformance with this build and I'm not sure if having the additional cores on a slightly older cpu would be better than less cores on a more modern cpu for gaming now and in the future. Maybe it's a bad comparison all together; I'm not sure so input is appreciated.
  8. Figures It wouldn't be that convenient. I suppose I can still use the ssd itself but it seems like I still have to fit a Windows key in the budget. I appreciate the input.
  9. Hello. I'm currently in the process of helping my cousin build a PC and am trying to keep costs down as much as possible. He already has a pre built pc that has an SSD boot drive with Windows already installed, and I'm wondering if its possible to simply use this drive with all new hardware in the new build. I have a feeling that this is not the greatest idea and I could run into a lot of problems so I'm very curious to hear what others think about this idea. Any input is appreciated.
  10. Hello. A few days ago, I was playing a game when suddenly my PC shut down completely. It was like it got unplugged and lost power, but all my other devices connected to the same power surge protector were still on. Now it is common for my PC to not start at all after being shut down for an extended period of time (perhaps 6 hours or more). I can see the power light on my case and hear fans spinning at higher speeds that usual, likely full speed. At first I thought it could be stuck in the bios given the higher fan speeds, but I can't seem to get any image from on my display. The thought also occurred to me that it could be faulty memory, but I see this as unlikely given this PC is only 3 years old, and I am using EVGA branded RAM. The last thing to note is, about a month ago I migrated Windows and some files over to an NvMe SSD, but I don't know if that would have anything to do with this new problem. If anyone could offer any help or ideas it would be greatly appreciated.
  11. I have my computer hooked up to two displays. My main display is an Asus 4K monitor and my second display is a Samsung 1080p TV. The problem I have is that when I put the computer to sleep and wake it up, all of my windows are re-sized and positioned in the upper left of the display. I think the root of the problem is that even when I have my computer set to display "PC screen only" when I wake the computer from sleep it somehow is displaying on my secondary monitor first, before it displays on my primary monitor. Does anybody have a way to tell Windows to completely ignore my second monitor with just completely unplugging it? This problem is driving me insane and any support would be greatly appreciated.
  12. UPDATE: It appears that my secondary monitor will wake up before my primary monitor. If I extend the displays, put the computer to sleep, and wake it up, the Windows Lock screen will show up on my secondary monitor first. Since it is a lower resolution it must be re-sizing the windows to conform to a 1080p display and than just spits them out back on my primary monitor. Is there any way I can set my secondary monitor to wake up slower somehow?
  13. So I have my computer connected to two displays. My primary display is an Asus monitor with a 4K resolution and my second is a Samsung TV with 1080p resolution. Even when the TV is off and I have my PC set to "PC Screen Only" if I sleep the computer and wake it, all the applications I had open will be re-sized and sitting in the top left corner of my main display. Its been driving me crazy and I have no real idea how to fix it. I assume it has somthing to do with the differing resolution of my secondary display, but that should have no effect when its off and not being used at all by the pc. Any ideas or possible solutions would be greatly appreciated. Thank You!
  14. I see an option that says, "Allow files on this drive to have contents indexed in addition to file properties" but I'm not sure thats what I'm looking for. I dont see anything regarding compressing files to save space under anywhere unfortunatly.

Recently I noticed that any new files I downloaded or created on my C: Drive would have the little blue arrows at the top right of the icon meaning that Windows was compressing it to save space on the disc. I have a 120 GB SSD, so I cleaned up the drive and currently I have 42.9 GB of free space. That should be plenty of storage left before Windows starts automatically compressing files. Is there an option I need to disable or is it somthing bigger? Whatever it is I would love to get it fixed so any help is appreciate!
  16. My PC is set up in a way that I have a monitor I use with my keyboard and mouse, and I also have a TV I use with a Logitech trackpad keyboard combo. The two displays are not next to each other, and because I prefer to use the "extend" option to have both displays active trying to oppen anything from the TV, my secondary display, can be very annoying because it will default oppen on my monitor. I than have to get up and drag it over to the second display. I want to make a simple program that will switch my default display back and forth when it is run. I'm hoping somone can give me advice as to how I should go about this. I'm petty new to this type of thing. Any help is appreciated!
  17. Okay so perhaps these are safe operating temperatures, but i would be willing spend some cash to knock them down to be a little cooler. Is liquid metal a viable option? Or maybe just another case fan?
  18. Hi all, Recently I have noticed that my GPU is getting very hot while gaming. I am a bit concerned and I would like to do something to keep the card cooler, but it is my understanding that there are many factors that can determine GPU temperature under load, such as case size, number of fans, etc. I'm hoping that somebody can give me some advice or things to try to improve my temperatures. My System: Case: Phanteks Evolv ITX One 120mm fan in rear. Blowing outwards (Exhaust) CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 1600 (Stock cooler w/ stock fan curve) Note: My CPU stays very cool even under load. GPU: EVGA GTX 1060 6GB (Single Fan, Not Super-Clocked) 16GB RAM 120GB Samsung SSD / 1TB WD Blue HD GPU Temperatures: Now that you know about my system lets discuss the GPU. At Idle with stock fan curve it sits at around 40 degrees. This temperature is observed when no amount of remotely intense load has been applied to the system previously. (2%-5% Load) At Idle (stock fan curve) after a gaming session or intense load, the card will average around 50 degrees, give or take. Under Load / Gaming the temperatures will skyrocket. Playing a game like Doom at 1440p will bring it to 83 degrees fairly quickly. (It peaks at this temperature and never pushes over thankfully.) Playing AC Origins at 1080p sees virtually identical results. Other games that are less demanding seem to provide lower temperatures; around 70 degrees. This is all with the stock fan curve, so these types of high temperatures could be expected so I have tried my luck at changing the fan curve, however my results are confusing. Adjusting the GPU Fan Curve: Note: I use MSI Afterburner to adjust my fan speeds. Simply setting the fan speed to 80% than playing a game for a half hour seems to yield the exact same temperatures as before (Up to 83 degrees) however the temperature does not rise as fast. I have even tried setting the fan speed to 100 percent, playing a game, and the temperatures (although lower) are still too high to justify the sound of the jet engine sitting next to me. Around (70 degrees) I hope that I have described my situation adequately and that I can get some viable solution suggestions. I have considered water-cooling, but it appears quite difficult to find a water block for this size of video card, and its a bit expensive. I have also even replaced the stock thermal compound with an after market solution, but the results are the same, maybe even potentially worse if I'm honest. It could even have something to do with system fans; maybe I could use another fan, or adjust the system fan curve. I am open to suggestions and I look forward to hearing what people have to say. Thanks!

  21. So I'm looking to buy a new gpu and I am considering amd as an option, but I don't fully understand what FreeSync is. Currently with my NVidia gpu, I enable V-Sync and to my understanding, all that does is just limit the frame rate according to the hrz of your monitor. But what about tearing? Does V-Sync help with that? Is G-Sync the same as V-Sync? And on amd's side, what is FreeSync? I'm just confused about what these technologies are and how I can utilize them. (Compatibility wise that is.) Any help is appreciated. Thanks!
