  1. Hi, Hope someone can help, really driving me a bit mad trying to figure out what's causing it! I have a MacBook Pro 13inch (2019 intel, last model before M1) connected to my Dell 32inch monitor via a USB-C to DisplayPort. All works fine for about four months, then the monitor decides not to wake from sleep unless I open the MacBook and pull out the display cable and plug it back in. The only fix I 'think' works, is to unplug all cables from the monitor and leave it for a few mins, then everything works again for three/four months... I've tried various laptops and cables, so I think the issue lies with the monitor. Has anyone heard of specific Dell vs MacBook issues, or MacBook USB-C > DisplayPort issues etc? The monitor is still under warranty so going down that path next. Cheers, Matt
  2. Cheers for the ideas, will get the multimeter out and do some prodding #sizzlesizzle
  3. Hi! hoping someone can prove I’m not being stupid…others have tried and failed I have a laptop linked to a Dell 32 inch monitor via a usbc to displayport cable (usbc on laptop end). I was receiving ‘no signal from displayport connection’ or similar recently. Tried various laptops/cables/etc. I think I’ve narrowed it down to the power supply to the monitor. If the monitor is plugged into a surge strip (six gang with all plugs used) the no signal error occurs - tried plugging it directly into the wall and it seeeeems to work fine. other sources connected to the HDMI socket on the monitor always work fine (power strip and/or directly into the wall). can displayport ports / monitors work like this? Surely if there was not enough power then the monitor just wouldn’t turn on? I’m guessing displayport uses ‘more power’ hence its not working when hdmi sources do…or does anyone think the monitor is possibly on its way out? cheers, Matt
  4. We now have nearly 400 people Who have signed the petition! Any lefties out there, please sign so Logitech can see there is a need :) cheers, Matt
  5. hi - ah good shout - seen that one, looks good but unable to install any software on the work laptop
  6. Hi, Soooo, I have two laptops and a monitor; - 2019 macbook pro with USB-C/thundbolt ports - HP 'Elite' x2 (work, not by choice) with one USB3 and one USB-C (also for charging) - Dell 32inch Monitor 4k with x2 HDMI, x1 DP - usb mouse and keyboard Im trrrrying to get it so I only have to switch one cable for connecting laptop power/mouse/keyboard/monitor between the two laptops. My current setup is a USB-C dock from Anker with USB PD, connected to the monitor via HDMI. The issue I'm having is that the monitor only connects at 30hz, not 60 aand it's very noticable. I've tried the Anker USB-C that claims to be 4k 60hz compatible, but I can only get it run at 50 (no big issue)...but when I use a USB-C extension cable for switching between the laptops it drops to 30hz (I'm guessing signal is degrading over the 30cm extension). If I plug the USB-C dock into the macbook (for keyboard/mouse), then use a separate thunderbolt>HMDI for the monitor, the monitor is detected twice (once from the dock and once from the addional cable). Wondered if anyone has a better solution.... I should have probably gone with a USB-C monitor but that may have it's own drawbacks, 4k KVMs are expensive! Cheers! Matt
  7. *crap should read *cramp, oops! tried it on many occasions and kept getting sharp pains. I have tried a few left handed mice though, in the UK at least, they seem to be upsright mice (i.e. tiled 90 degrees) or inferior in other ways (only having one connection option, not integrating with keyboards and requiring two usb ports etc etc...) Maybe 'fun' to see how many people end up signing it in a week. Cheers, Matt
  8. ah yes! just been reading that one, thanks for the tip though (y)
  9. Hi All, As a lefty (not by choice but I'm stuck with it), I'm rather miffed (in a tea drinking, British way) that the Logitech MX Master mouse only comes in a right handed version...so much so that I've had to settle with the smaller, ambidexterous, travel mouse. I've tried using my specia....right hand, but cannot seem to make it work; either getting cramp, or it just feeling 'weird'. I'm sure there are many others out there with the same life changing issue as me (legs aside)....therefore.... Please consider signing my petition here and hopefully Logitech the left handed version - simply its just a matter of making the parts in side out ? http://chng.it/nxdpZdTwKq thanks for reading, sorry if this sort of post is not allowed but I simply must have my perfect mouse, Matt
  10. good tips guys - you call almost say...tech tips...>.< the drill comes out tomorrow. cheers, Matt
  11. Hi All, I've just brought a sexy new 27inch Dell u2715h 1440p monitor, but would like to wall mount it rarther than use the stand. Has anyone ever considered using thick 3M double sided tape (or the foam pads) or anthing similar to hold a monitor to a wall as Im technically not allowed to drill into the wall for a vesa mount. Industrial strength velcro perhaps? Maybe Im mad. Cheers, Matt
  12. found these - should do the job http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00CYJ82NM?redirect=true&ref_=s9_im_co_g21_i6

  15. Soooo, I have an oak desk and am looking for something to stick down phone, iphone dock etc down to the desk...I've tried grippy pads, etc but need something a bit more permanent...anyone use anything like 3M sticky pads? need something that will not mark the desk in any way. Cheers in advance, Matt
  16. thanks for the replies, and moving the post to the right forum. Here's a quick update (for anyone crazy enough to try a similar 'project').... 1 - I downloaded Windows 7 home premium, used the existing O/S key, then realised it was an upgrade key from Windows 7 Started edition....so.....1 1a - I downloaded Windows 7 starter (could have amended the file so it displays a choice of version but couldnt be bothered) - installed Starter edition 2 - Booted into Windows 7 Starter and used the 'Anytime Upgrade' app to use the upgrade key to install Home Premium 3- downloaded drivers etc. Currently running Windows update, after checking the log it seems to be taking about 5/6 hours to return updates! crazy but I guess the servers are being hammered by people upgrading to Windows 10 (if they are the same servers). Not attempted Windows 10 as yet but may do some more Windows 7 updates and see if they speed up (i.e. if there is a driver or something I've missed that Windows Update picks up). Then I'll try Windows 10. Cheers! Matt
  17. Hi All... Soooooo, I've come across an old netbook (Toshiba NB305-106) with 1gb of RAM, 250gb HDD, 1.66 single core Atom...dodgy keyboard, that seems to be from around 2009. As a laugh I've updated the ram to 2gb, and cloned the HHD to a spare Sammy 850 Evo... The Tosh is currently running Windows 7 Home Premium (sticker on the back says Home Basic but i think there was a deal for £20 to upgrade with a code purchased with the netbook. Only problem so far seems to be that Windows update doesnt work (continually 'Checking for updates'). Main question is - would anyone recommend (attempting) to 'upgrade' to Windows 10 - i.e. is that better on netbooks? or Windows 8.1? Guess I can do a clean install using a download iso from the MS website and magical jellybean to get the licence code, but last time I did that I was running marathons. cheers in advance. Happy xmas, Matt
  18. wasn't there also a 'cable select' option too, or was that never really used, or used for something else?
  19. Hi people! Just wondered if anyone has any experience using Widi (the intel wireless display thing)... I have a mac and secretly hoping that they will support it - but not holding hopes up as they have Apple TV 'solution' already. Those who have used it (if anyone), is it any good for 1080p over wireless n? Cheers Matt Sent from my iphone - hence multiple edits and spelling corrections.
  20. Blowing pubes out of keyboards mainly. In my case I've been redecorating so need to blow some dust out of my xbo...PC!
  21. I'm into scuba, so there must be some adapter I can put on a pony bottle...£11.99 sounds redonkadonk
  22. Don't post here much but my local computer shop tried selling my mum some compressed air in a can for £11.99 and I feel a little sick. Please tell me this is not how much this costs... Cheers
  23. Not 'hacking' extactly, but I got detension (having to stay late and tidy classrooms) for supposedly 'corrupting' encarta 98. Basically someone had inadvertantly removed the shortcut to it on the desktop and I was the last one to use the machine... Ended up showing them how to put the shortcut back and got a 'housepoint'. Those were the days. Also remember the CD drive had a play button (as well as eject) and a headphone port...that was like 10/15 years ago though. Also... Doing a uni project in Flash - had to design a 'game or application' using actionscript. Ended up getting kicked out of the Library/study area for 'Playing computer games'. Stupid security bloke wouldnt believe we wrote the thing. Once again, not hacking exactly, but stilL. Cheers
