Damascus reacted to imreloadin in WTF is nest? a rant about americentrism in tech and internet in general
Gotta love "I have different opinions on things than other people and that makes them wrong" posts...seriously bud, Americans clearly have a different perspective to technology and household appliances than you do and thus buy different types of products. Someone having a different opinion than you doesn't make them wrong or you right, it just makes them different.
American companies usually tend to make products with American's as their central consumer of said products, as they're making products that they themselves would want to buy. China and India are both major mobile internet browsing countries, meaning they do so from a cellular phone as they don't have infrastructure/can't afford things like wired utilities such as internet, electricity, etc. It's vastly easier and cheaper to throw up a cell tower than it is to string out cable/fiber/other types of wired internet mediums. So no, I don't think that simply the number of people browsing the internet will change internet commerce that much in the foreseeable future as those consumers don't even have basic infrastructure in large portions of their countries to allow the use of the types of products American companies design.
Again, like I said previously, American products are geared towards American levels of infrastructure. Also, I'd simmer down on calling people archaic since you just said your community can barely produce construction quality wood...if that's the case then obviously a smart device like a Nest makes zero sense for you as you don't have the infrastructure capable of supporting said device.

The EU and the USA are nearly identical when it comes to landmass, with populations of 512m and 327m respectively. So while it is a factor, it's not actually the main cause.
The bigger difference is centralization! European cities have a lot of history, a lot of people and incredibly well developed transit networks, so population tends to heavily cluster towards hubs, as opposed to the massive sprawl found in the USA, and to a lesser extent Canada

Factoid definition is - an invented fact believed to be true because it appears in print. So many people have the wrong idea of what it means, some dictionaries will give both the correct and the wrong definition.

Worrisome. Kerosene means combustion. Combustion means dangerous gasses unless the combustion is near totally perfect. Kerosene heaters are actually illegal to bring indoors where I live. Fuel based heating (natural gas/kerosene, etc..) has legal venting requirements to keep people from dying. Depends on how airtight the building is of course.
sidenote: I cherish my toxic manbabyhood. ?

Electric doorbells are something that's usually just tacked onto the electrical systems here in the States. Not very much a hard thing to do here.

Damascus reacted to SenKa in 52,600$ fully loaded mac pro
Reasons for the Mac Pro being expensive:
Assembled in USA
Intel price-gouging Xeon's
ECC DDR4 price being inflated
Fantastic build quality
Fully modular designs are more expensive
Gen 1 product (we pay R&D. Same as with Galaxy Fold)
macOS License baked in to price
Dual 10GBe NIC (even on base model)
There is more, but I honestly CBA to repeat myself.

Shielding needs to be dense and thick to stop radiation. Dense = heavy. Heavy x massive = bad aerodynamics

Damascus reacted to SkilledRebuilds in GPU upgrade vs resolution downgrade
This
at 13" would using 1080p over 1440p be that bad?
I understand 1080p vs 1440p scaling and interpolated blur can happen.... but if its just for games performances,.. why not give it a try and see if its clean or blurry.
Using derivatives of 1440p and creating a custom resolution for better image scaling without blur could be needed.
2048x1152 (80% of 1440p)
1920x1080 (75% of 1440p)

You only sometimes lose quad channel
I didn't realize I told you about that build @Damascus, guess I might be able to find a pic. I'll tell you, the 2x80mm rad could actually cool the 6950x pretty well at stock. Truethfully I almost never do OC or burn-in tests so I can't say much more. But, the build was basically a slightly modified GEEEK a30 where I lengthened the 4 horizontal bars maybe 10-20mm so I could fit int the radiator and some fans. Never got the custom cables done before a different case caught my eye.
The GEEEK cases look ok, but T-slot is kind of a pain in the ass to work with and when the case heats up and cools down the screws often loosened for me
Went to a Ghost S1 I immediately botched the paint job on. Laser saved me some sanding last night. LOOK AT THE SOOT 0_0

Gaahhhh it's been terrible. Although, @Zando Bob would probably appreciate the build you're making. It uses a 2x80mm rad, right? Custom loop kings of smol lol

Damascus reacted to Falkentyne in is i5-9600k worth it
Ignoring the AMD people taking potshots at Intel, I would avoid any processor that does not have hyperthreading except for the 9700K. HT extends the life of CPU's. It's why the i7 2600k was viable for so long when people with i5 2500k's were complaining about low FPS and stuttering issues back around 2016. The real unresolved debate is 8700k vs 9700k, since the 8086k was a limited production run (like the 9900KS is). I would take an 8700k (and delid it) 100% of the time over a 9600k.

The way you interpret the prices seems to be far more sensitive than that of OP. If they had come back and said "wow look how expensive Intel is what a ripoff" you'd have something here.
As it stands you made your point known and there really are at most, 1-2 boards in AUD pricing anywhere near $50 cheaper than the board they picked, it was not a super frills board with lots of bling (ASUS ROG looking at you!).

nor is the Phantom 4 all that "nice". It's just a Pro4 reskin which keeps the same components from B360 to Z390.

Damascus got a reaction from minibois in Amazon credit to spend on water cooling
Okay, I'm going to put the best options withjn budget that I could find on Amazon down below for you @Omi7k. Thanks to @Den-Fi for the plug lol
CPU block. Without a doubt, a HK IV wins this one. There are more expensive options on Amazon, but none that are better
Reservoir. I'll be honest, the glass tube from HK is gorgeous and competitively priced I like Heatkiller. Unfortunately, amazon doesn't seem to carry the pump/res combo unit, so you would need to have a separate D5 (see next part for details) The second option is a surprisingly cheap but still very functional corsair combo unit (as long as it actually comes with a pump!) at a very good price, or pay out the A$$ for a singularity computers pump/res (pump purchased separately)
Pumps! Only needed if using the singularity or heatkiller, and the singularity only needs the bare pump. Geel free to search "D5 pumptop" as these tops are highly subjective. D5s are almost universally identical, so don't worry too much about that
Radiator. Another blowout king here, haddwarelabs semi budget line easily matches the PE series, and the larger models are also best in class. At 30mm thick, the GTS is also very easy to work with as long as you can get over how wide it is
Fittings. Whatever floats your boat! Want hardline? Get color appropriate primochill, or monsoon if you can find em on Amazon. Soft tube is easy as well, corsair seems to to have some well price options. A loop will take 2 fittings per component, with more if you want to run parallel. A CPU, pump, res and rad will take 8, continue to follow said logic until all parts are accounted for. Having extra also isn't a bad idea, as you may decide to change things up and make a more complex loop that would require extra fittings.
Drain valve. This is optional, but very useful. Put it at the lowest or highest point in your loop to make draining incredibly easy. Combine the items below, along with several plugs, to make a simple drain.
