  1. I've had the ASUS Vivobook for over a year and its been a great laptop. I've had a problem for a while thought where sometimes to screen won't come on. The system does start the screen just doesnt. I found that if I move the laptop screen in an open and close movement continuously while it is booting up then most of the time it will come on just fine. The camera is similar except it will turn itself off if I move the screen at all while its on. This all sounds silly I assume it is a problem with the cable and I will likely need to take it somewhere and have a professional fix it but I want to see if there is anything I can do on my own first. Thanks!
  2. update: I found that acer swift 3 on newegg for $600 so the price is pretty much the same now between the two I also found this one on newegg for around $500 https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834316369&ignorebbr=1
  3. I am looking for a laptop like said in the title that in less than $700, and looks good (not one thats bulky and thick basically). It being light would be nice but im really not someone that cares about the weight. All I will be using this for is schoolwork like editing word documents, watching youtube videos and surfing the internet. Its possible that I might do some very light gaming on it but that is not a priority for me. I found these 2 laptops that are in the $600 range that I think look very nice and have good reviews. They both have recent i5s, 8gb ram, and an ssd. the Vivobook has an ssd and a hard drive which could be an advantage. It also looks a bit better because of the thinner bezels. The Acer swift 3 still looks good but not as good as the vivobook and it only has a 256gb ssd and no hard drive. Even though I cant see myself storing that much on this laptop it is still a disadvantage. The swift though has an mx150 gpu that would allow me to do that light gaming I mentioned. Basically I can't decide which one I am going to buy and I need some advice from people who actually know what their talking about. Maybe someone else will find a flaw in one that I don't see. here are the links to the 2 laptops. https://www.amazon.com/Acer-i5-8250U-NVIDIA-GeForce-SF314-52G-55WQ/dp/B0746P25QX/ref=sr_1_3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1533664370&sr=1-3&keywords=acer+swift+3&dpID=415MaHrvdUL&preST=_SX300_QL70_&dpSrc=srch#customerReviews https://www.amazon.com/VivoBook-i5-8250U-NanoEdge-Fingerprint-F510UA-AH51/dp/B0795W86N3/ref=sr_1_13?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1533587032&sr=1-13&keywords=lg%2Bgram&th=1#customerReviews
  4. My friend is wanting a gaming pc and his budget is around $500. I made this build pretty quick and i think it looks good but I'd like some feedback. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/9GKvM8 Also I have heard that you can save money with a budget like this by buying a cheap prebuilt with a decent CPU then putting a graphics card in it. I also don't really know anything about buying used parts if that could help. Just let me know what you think would be best. Also I'm not factoring in the price of a monitor but he will need one so let me know if you know of a cheap 1080p monitor (probably under 100) Edit: It would also be nice if we could fit an SSD in there for the OS
  5. lol sorry for that post twice, it showed that it didn't post
  6. I haven't noticed it heat up while idle, sometimes it gets slightly warm in my pocket but i think its just my warm pocket since it doesn't warm up on my desk. It only gets hot while the screen is on.
  7. It gets slightly warm in my pocket at idle but I think it is just because my pocket is warm since it doesn't get warm at all when sitting on my desk. I only ever notice it get hot while the screen is on
  8. I have my location on power saving mode which doesn't use GPS. Airplane mode doesn't change anything thermally while the screen is on, but it saves a lot of battery in standby time
  9. How do i tell? Like would it be really obvious?
  10. Yeah, i totally reset the phone about a month ago and it didn't help, and i've used a lot of apps to clear background processes
  11. No, there was one time that i can think of where there got a little drop in the headphone jack and i had to blow it out but the phone is water resistant and this happened recently and this problem has been from way before then
  12. Ive had my galaxy s5 for about 2 years and everything has been fine except this. I can't think of the time when it started happening because it was gradual but at this point it overheats very quickly. Maybe overheating isn't the right word considering the phone doesn't shut its self off which is scary considering how hot it has gotten. It only takes about 15 minutes of youtube or 5 minutes of snapchat/camera app for it too get hot enough i usually shut it off and stick it in front of my AC. I was trying to track down where the heat was coming from and it doesn't seem like its coming from the battery like I thought. It is coming from the middle left of the phone, right next to the battery. I looked up some xrays on ifixit and it looks like it is a part of the mobo. I've tried resetting my phone and getting those apps that disable background processes but it seems like it is the screeen being on that causes it. I still have 3 months until I get my phone upgrade so I'd like to fix this. What do you guys think?
  13. So a few weeks ago I was having this problem and i came to the conclusion that the door being closed in the room with my router was causing it to slow down. And even though it did cause it to slow down a bit, i know now that that isn't the real problem. Our old router (which was the exact same one that we have now it just died) worked great. But it seems like since we have gotten out new router the internet has been very strange. Right now the speeds are fine but it is very inconsistant on all of my devices. Right now my speeds are about 30mbps down and 6 up with 54ms latency but last night when i tested it the up and down was about the same but the latency changed every time i did a speed test, it would go from 30ms to 200ms to 80ms for each test. As you can guess gaming is a nightmare like this. I don't know what the problem is, i am thinking is could be the router's fault since it seems to have gotten bad since the new router but would it be worth contacting my ISP? Also i have done these tests on my phone, PC, laptop, and my dad's macbook and the speeds have been the same.
