Welcome to linux world where everything is wrong yet right.

Meanwhile I'm running internal gpu as host and external gpu to VM seamless fps.

Don't take everyone word, try it out till it breaks just reinstall and continue living.

Get rid of those invasive anticheat that wont let you play as linux user.

Plenty games with anticheat allows linux users you can find on protonDB

Maybe I’m just lucky but, even as a beginner I have had a very easy time playing every game I’ve tried so far in my steam library using Proton. The only game I’ve had trouble with was that one I downloaded for free that I mentioned.

No. that is not true, never been true, and will never be true.

Linux always requires you to do more than "double click the icon" to get even simple "linux native" games to work, and you have to jump through lots of hoops to get WINE , DXVK, Proton and so forth to operate, and there will always be a few games DRM/Anti-Cheat that will prevent you from doing this altogether.

Tell me you've never used Linux without telling me you've never used Linux. Or even a Steam Deck for that matter.

I mean GUI specific things are pretty similar. I would advise on learning the Linux filesystem structure to learn where each file resides since it's extrmely different from Windows.

Some directories to keep in mind are

    ~/.local/share/ ~/.config/ ~/.var/ /mnt /media /run/media

You need to go into properties of the file and mark it as executable. It's a security measure.

Linux is not Windows, so please keep that in mind as you're learning the new OS. 🙂

I personally wouldn't go for aesthetics when you're on such a tight budget, you can always start with a cheap air cooler and add the AIO later. You do you though, that's just my two cents.

Then an 8th gen intel optiplex for 100$ or so with 8gb of ram and an ssd will do.

That raidmax psu is genuinly a hazard and Id avoid at all costs.

Also 400$ used gets you a nice used ryzen gaming system avoid all the cheap crap of trying to go new

Whoa there buster. 400 bucks is enough to build a pretty solid cheap PC. My first was a GTX 1050 and Pentium G4560 that I built for about 400 bucks and it was a great entry point for me into this hobby and for the time wasn’t even that bad for playing at 1080p medium settings. Right now I’m working on a project using an old SFF office PC and upgrading it into a small gaming pc I can take to LAN’s, and it came to about $150. Having a lot of money is not a requirement to getting into PC gaming.  I for one would be over the moon if someone gifted me a PC at all let alone one that they put together to the best of their abilities to get me a good gaming experience.

btw.. with steam ubisoft and other game loaders, you can backup the game data.. if you have space on your harddrive i would copy the game data there.. and restore it after a reinstall.

and for drivers... i would use powershell and type Export-WindowsDriver -Online -Destination D:\Drivers  before you start this 😄

D:\drivers can be where every you want it.. to reload drivers quick.  go in device manager and just load drivers and point to the directory you choose..

Oh god manually changing partitions is a nightmare.

Make sure to make backup before you do this.

my system drive has one 499MB partition(recovery) a 100MB EFI partition ahead of C: and a 650MB recovery partition in the end of it.
so you would need 600mb in front free space, and 650 mb at the end of the disk.

There is so much wrong with this.

First, budget and mining PC don't belong in the same sentence.

Second, unless power is basically free, you're gonna lose money with the GTX 950. in order for a GPU to be profitable, you need at least ~4.6GB of VRAM, and lots of memory bandwidth helps that. The GTX 950 has none of those. Odds are you're gonna be getting about 10c a day before power costs.

Third, there's no way to get PCIe Gen 3 with a 2400. The processor physically doesn't support it, and no motherboard available for the socket will have it.

Forth, the motherboard you found is for socket 1151v2, while the i5 2400 is on socket 1155. It won't fit in, let alone function. You're not gonna get a brand new board that will work with that chip. If you want to do this, use the board you already have. Mining does not care about PCIe bandwidth, most mining rigs only have the cards use PCIe 3.0x1, it makes no difference.

If you actually want to do this, just buy a scalped GTX 1060 6GB and a half decent PSU. Then you actually have a chance at making money back, even though it still doesn't really make sense.

It would take over four years just for that rig to pay for itself, let alone turning a profit, and that's not even accounting for electricity costs. Why are you even bothering?

Open up Disk Management and see if there's a second partition on the drive. Quite often during Windows installation it will create a small secondary recovery partition on the drive.
For example my 500GB boot drive:

Disk Management will also show what the true volume size for C: drive is.

Zeke_ reacted to IPD in If I can afford the noise, is it bad to run your fans at higher speed?
My experience has been that the RPM variation is what ages fans.  Even constant spinning at 100% RPM for an eternity--is probably better for the fan than pinging between idle (or off) and 80% and back....again and again.

a 9400f is more than enough for a 3060ti, especially if you are looking at upping the resolution of your monitor. Higher resolutions are way less CPU bound due to the higher gpu rendering time per frame.

I would definitely upgrade the PSU and the motherboard. H310 is kneecapping your ram to 2666 so a Z390 matx board would be a cheap-ish improvement all around.
