  1. What are you planning on doing with this rig? Purely gaming? Where is your location? Pricing will change a lot based on location. Also, make sure to check the motherboards QVL for your RAM to avoid compatibility issues. I thankfully learned that today and spent most of today looking at RAM sticks and finding the best one for me before I went and bought parts. I'm haven't built my first rig yet, but I recommend this PSU from what I've read. https://pcpartpicker.com/product/9q4NnQ/evga-power-supply-220g20650y1 If you want to check out other PSUs, then I recommend checking out the PSU tier list from Toms hardware. It's a good read and I found it helpful. http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/id-2547993/psu-tier-list.html For something more up to date, there is this http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/best-psus,4229.html
  2. I just realized how poorly I was reading the QVL for ASRock. I thought "size" tab was the max RAM they were using and not the RAM size per stick. There are a few 16Gb set ups that are said by ASRock to work, but at slightly lower clock speeds. This one is rated to go 2933MHz from it's advertised 3333MHz https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820232401&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction-Storage&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-Storage-_-Memory (Desktop Memory)-_-G.SKILL-_-20232401&cm_sp=&AID=11892366&PID=2406712&SID= However, PCParts list doesn't have this RAM listed for some reason. The closest it has is this one. Similar part number, but some small differences. Lower clock (3200 instead of 3333) speed, but better latency (14 instead of 16). This one is not in the QVL https://pcpartpicker.com/product/JkJkcf/gskill-tridentz-series-32gb-2-x-16gb-ddr4-3200-memory-f4-3200c14d-32gtzsk Both options are painfully expensive. I might just take 2x8Gb sticks for now. I don't think I'll absolutely need the 32Gb of RAM in the next year or two. I can just leave that to my future self to worry about or just expand to all 4 DIMM slots for 32Gbs if that capability is fixed in the future. Here's the current state of the build using 2x8Gb RAM with RAM from the QVL list for the ASRock x370 Taichi. The RAM is shown by ASRock to go 2933MHz from the advertised 3200MHz. If I can get the OS for cheaper from my school, I'll probably put the money into getting a higher capacity SL308 SSD as was previously recommended.
  3. It's getting a little close, but the multi-tasking potential is what I'm wanting. Plus I get to learn. I found someone saying that they can achieve 3033MHz with 4 sticks of this 3200 16Gb RAM on the ASUS x370 PRO motherboard. https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820232210
  4. I'm currently looking at the ASrock x370 Taichi. It looks fairly good after doing some deeper research even though I initially shot it down. My problem currently is finding 16Gb RAM. From what I'm reading on various forums, Ryzen doesn't like 16Gb sticks very much. People have trouble with it and I'm seeing very little in the way of 16 Gb sticks on any QVL for motherboards. I also have found samsung b-die is the best way to go for Ryzen. Overall, this is becoming a bit of a headache. Just keep digging, just keep digging.
  5. I just found out that the G.Skill - Ripjaws V Series 32GB 3200 is not on the QVL for the Gigabyte - GA-AB350-GAMING 3 ATX AM4 Motherboard. I get to do some more digging and chose another motherboard or RAM. The motherboard I have selected only has 2800MHz (downgraded to 2666MHz) as the max speed for the G.SKILL F4-2800C15Q2-128GRKD 16Gb stick of RAM. Most of the other 16 Gb sticks of RAM that are supported by this motherboard are for lower speeds. I also didn't notice that the price difference for the 1070 and 1080 was at most 60 dollars right now, so I'll try to squeeze it into the budget.
  6. You mean buying windows from a website like kinguin? I'm not too trusting of that method. My school might offer windows 10 for cheaper, but I haven't checked the bookstore yet. The only saving point I can think of besides windows 10 is downgrading to 16Gb of single stick ram and upgrading as I need it down the road. There's also downgrading to Ryzen 5, but I'll need to look more into that before deciding if it would be worthwhile. I'm also a little worried about upgrading to a 1080 since that might lead into upgrading to a 1080ti which will hurt the rest of the build. There's also the fact that a better graphics card will need a better monitor to take advantage of it.
  7. Okay I made some adjustments to the build to swap the SSD. I also had to change the GTX 1070 because the one I had linked spiked by 80 dollars. Yay price fluctuation! PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant CPU: AMD - Ryzen 7 1700 3.0GHz 8-Core Processor ($286.76 @ OutletPC) Motherboard: Gigabyte - GA-AB350-GAMING 3 ATX AM4 Motherboard ($91.77 @ OutletPC) Memory: G.Skill - Ripjaws V Series 32GB (2 x 16GB) DDR4-3200 Memory ($269.99 @ Newegg) Storage: SanDisk - SSD PLUS 240GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($83.88 @ OutletPC) Storage: Western Digital - Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($47.88 @ OutletPC) Video Card: EVGA - GeForce GTX 1070 8GB SC Gaming ACX 3.0 Video Card ($474.98 @ Newegg) Case: Fractal Design - Define R5 (Black) ATX Mid Tower Case ($104.99 @ SuperBiiz) Power Supply: EVGA - SuperNOVA G2 650W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply ($89.99 @ Amazon) Optical Drive: Asus - DRW-24B1ST/BLK/B/AS DVD/CD Writer ($18.69 @ OutletPC) Operating System: Microsoft - Windows 10 Home OEM 64-bit ($89.89 @ OutletPC) Total: $1558.82 Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available Generated by PCPartPicker 2017-07-27 22:44 EDT-0400 Would you say a 650W is enough? I don't really plan to do SLI in the future. Only reason I'm considering x370 is because of the better VRM's since that makes OC easier when I start doing it. Have you had experience with the motherboards you're recommending? I keep reading some bad reviews for these boards in regards to their bios and OC. If they have trouble OC, then I have no reason to even go to x370.
  8. The storage brand doesn't matter as long as the quality and QC of the product is good. I just did a quick adjustment with those when I down graded from a 500Gb M.2 SATA SSD and a 2TB HDD to accommodate the price of a DDR4 2x16Gb RAM set up.
  9. Thanks for the recommendation, but I'm going to be avoiding that motherboard. Too many bad reviews on Newegg regarding bios and it only supports DDR4 2666/ 2400/ 2133. I'd rather have a good bios experience. I'm avoiding cases with windows since I'm not a fan and I'd rather not worry about it if I transport my computer. Regardless, with the way that case is set up, the window will be against a wall. While it's cool to see someone manipulate the build to fit a 1080 Ti into the budget, it's overkill since I only plan to do 1080p or 1440p. There's also the fact that I still need windows 10 which will put me up to 1700 dollars.
  10. Okay this is my build with the new RAM selection. This will be my first build so a good BIOS would go a long way. Anyone have experience with other boards that can speak for them? Most of the reviews I've seen are a bit out of date. 11. I'm not planning to until I think it's necessary. I've seen the mineral oil video from LTT. Seems to be an absolute pain. I also don't want to risk leakage from water cooling since I won't have a window and I don't want to replace any expensive parts because of the water cooler.
  12. Yeah. Seems Ripjaw is the G.Skill line that has those speeds and RAM capacity. It's 30 dollars more than what you recommended. I'm not sure if the performance boost it would give is worthwhile. I'll look into it before adding that to my current build state.
  13. The highest I'm finding is 2400 for a 2x16Gb set for G Skill Flare. Do you have a link for 3200 G Skill Flare or is that only available in 8 GB sticks? I'm wanting to expand to 64Gb down the line.
  14. I didn't realize there was a white led version. So much cheaper than the RGB one and has a good rebate. Thanks!
  15. I like the keyboard. It has a nice size and keeps the number pad if I need it. Sadly, it's not available in MX brown right now. Drats! All they have is 1 of each of blue and red.
