Just went through this topic. Oh my god this build is amazing. The amount of work you've put in it is incredible and I commend you for keeping up with it! Damn. I love that you've kept it this upgradeable (with the caselabs tray). I mean, this desk is gonna be useable for years and years.

The ODAC built into the desk is so fucking cool.

Measure twice, cut once, I guess that's one of the more important tips. Make sure you have sturdy legs, especially if you're gonna integrate a monitor arm, you don't want to the thing to be wobbly or just typing on your keyboard will translate that wobble to the monitor. Guaranteed sea sickness!

Brammm got a reaction from dizmo in 1070ti Bottle necks the 8700k?
Bottleneck in this scenario is gonna be a REALLY relative term. What games are you intending to run? What resolution?

It's been proven many times by many benchmarks that CPUs do very little to framerates, except at lower resolutions. So if you're gonna be playing older titles at 1080p, you're gonna be fine with a 1070Ti (or even just a 1070). However if you wanna play recent AA titles on 1440p or higher, you're better off with a 1080.

As @dizmo said, aftermarket GPUs often have better cooling (which is hella important for Turbo Boost) and power delivery, so they'll perform better than a Founders Edition.

It probably wouldn't hold up in Europe either, as the EU requires a full two year warranty on all products.

Just as an update to this, Logitech realized to some extent the error of their ways and has since said that they will replace the Harmony Links with Harmony Hubs for free regardless of warranty status.  As for the reason on this, it is due to an encryption certificate that Logitech will not be renewing which would leave vulnerabilities in the Link system.

If your Harmony Link unit is still under warranty, you will apparently get a free new Harmony Hub, however if it's out of warranty, you will only be offered a 35% discount. In the Reddit discussion, the OP even claims that Logitech sold off a lot of Harmony Link devices in fire sales over the last 6 months, but only offering 3 months of warranty. This would mean that people who bought the device somewhere these last 6 months, would have a fancy brick early next year and be forced to buy a new piece of hardware at a 35% discount. If true, this seems incredibly scumbaggy of Logitech to me.

This kind of news is something that has come up more and more over the last couple of years, wether it's stuff like this or game developers shutting down multiplayer servers. We'll probably see it happen more and more as well.

Wait, why would this brick your device exactly? I looked it up and it seems to just be an IR blaster you can control over WiFi. There should be no reason why it needs to communicate with a server on the Internet.

My case arrived this week as well. Only "complaint": it arrived half way into a 6 day vacation. The GLS guy "hid" the box under a sheet of plastic road side, where it thus sat for 3 days. Luckily I'm the last house of a dead-end street and there's not a lot of traffic here. The box stayed mostly dry too. Case itself is in perfect condition. Now to get a PSU and new cooler and then transplant my rig.

They addressed a lot of the controversy in this week's WAN show:

    (I time stamped it)

    TL;DW:
    - The original script was written before Ryzen 5 was available and they already had other parts
    - It was shot before the 580 was announced.
    - While shooting, they also realized Ryzen 5 would've made more sense but it was too late to replace at that point. Ryzen also hadn't matured as much as it has today.

I think a lot of people fail to see that LTT is a huge company (for YouTube channel standards) that does a lot of shit and planning in advance. Paul's Hardware is, afaik, a one man show. This allows him to probably have a looser schedule and makes him able to have shorter production cycles.

10th week of Sentry manufacturing process

Just like we predicted, this week wasn't as productive as it could be, mostly because of the "long weekend" in Poland. We couldn't contact with our subcontractors, shipping companies or even customs services, but first things first:

Last week we started shipping process of first 150 orders with black cases. We divided the transport into 2 parts: transport inside and outside EU. Worldwide shipping was registered as "Posted" yesterday. Today we have found out that our transport company may not sent you tracking data for your packages, so just in case we sent you those numbers. Now is the time for EU shipment, which is a tricky part.

In EU we have planned faster and cheaper courier shipping than what we have from national post. We are processing those shipments through a single intermediary company that is giving us a batch order discount. We started the shipping process of this 2nd part of packages and yesterday it turned out it was stopped as a batch. The reason is quite simple: in this transport there were 6 people who didn't give us their phone numbers. It shouldn't be a problem, but... we are ordering a transport with insurance. In that case most courier companies require direct phone contact with the recipient of the package. We sent messages to those 6 people with missing phone numbers and when we will get them we will also get new tracking numbers for all of those packages. That is the main reason why some people from first black Sentry cases transport didn't receive their tracking numbers via email. We hope we will solve this problem on Monday. If not, on Tuesday we will send this transport without those 6 packages.

Next subject: white cases. On Friday we contacted our 2nd paint shop to ask if the metal parts are painted. Unfortunately this is one of the companies whose long weekend ends after this Sunday, so they will start painting first 150 white units on Monday. We have no influence on that

On Friday we received 2nd transport of black Sentry body parts.

Finally, we were asked to show some photos from last week how we prepared your packages. Here you are:

We also have some bonus photos from yesterday. We didn't want to waste time on waiting and we started the production of stands for 2nd transport of Sentry cases:

9th week of Sentry manufacturing process

This is a late weekend update but this is the one everyone was waiting for: shipping process begun!!!

As many of you probably noticed, for the last few days we were locking shipping address change option in your indiegogo accounts. This action was taken for the orders from 1 to 300 with black Sentry cases. You will receive email with tracking number when it will be active, after polish "long weekend". In this moment we have to tell you some good and bad news.

Good news is we filled most of the shipping forms for those first 150 black Sentry orders and we are waiting for shipping companies to pick them from us. We have also started preparations for next transport of cases in the following weeks.

The bad news is we have a "long weekend" in Poland (29.04-3.05, or even to 7.05 for some companies). We mentioned it before and we thought it could be a problem. Many manufacturers simply don't work in this time and we have problems with many things. One of the issues is painting white Sentry cases. This week we sent unpainted steel elements for the another 150 orders to our external
    paintshop.

We still didn't receive them back. What is more, because of this long weekend we predict we won't receive them before the end of next week. Even in case we will be able to pick them on next Thursday or Friday, it still means we won't have enough time to check them and pack them for the next transport this week. What we want to say is that, even if we kept our promise and we started shipping process in April, we predict there will be a delay with sending packages, mostly because of the long waiting time for white cases being painted by our external paint shop. This is an issue we discussed many times in our forums, and this is also a reason why we see white Sentry cases as limited edition.  We apologise for this situation and we hope there will be a possibility to compensate this delay within next weeks.

Ok. Now is the time to explain why we had this small delay with this update. On Thursday and on Friday we had online meetings with ladies who were teaching us how to use shipping and customs services software. It takes a lot of time to fill your shipping details and this is why we didn't have time to make this update earlier.

At a previous company, I interviewed people who did timed challenges. A good company/interviewer does not do timed challenges because they expect a finished result or even a working thing. It's a really good conversation starter. You ask the interviewee about their decisions. What they did, why they did it. You ask them what they thought they did wrong, what they'd like to do differently, what they liked... It's a really good way to learn where they stand and gauge their capabilities.

At least, that's how it should be, in my opinion (which I know is shared by many).

I didn't do that in the past because I didn't like the idea of having a USB sticking out the back of the case. I've read one too many stories of people accidentally damaging them and destroying their system. But the board I chose has a USB on the board, so the stick would be safe inside... Guess I could do that too.
