That's incredibly wasteful. How will you know you don't like the other one as well?

Hilarious. I really hope something comes of this, but I have a feeling not enough people will be mad enough for that to be true.

Haha, such an American statement 😂 It's not the case in most of the world.

I have a 13" HP Envy with a 4K touch display. I did not care about or want a 4K touch display. A standard matte 1080p would have been fine, but after using that 4K display for the last few years, I understand why it's there. I can go back anytime I want. Really.

Huh? Vegan has nothing to do with fossil fuels.
Expecting them to be completely "earth friendly" is asking for a lot, but there are other brands that fill the niche. Though I think most still rely at least partially on petroleum based products.

It's a toss up between the two honestly. Your best bet is to look at the reviews, and pick the one that does better in the games you play. There isn't a clear winner here. Personally I'd try and get a used card if you're in that price bracket, you'll get way more bang for your buck.

Haha, really though, I'm just fed up with people complaining about companies that try to move in a better direction. Like if they don't go all in, they should get bashed.

All he replaced was the mainboard, a backplate, and the hinges. He didn't have to replace the backplate, it was simply showing off some of the items they have on offer. There's loads of components that weren't replaced during this video.

I wouldn't be a customer of this strat, but to say he replaced everything is just plain incorrect.

Just put in the i5, you're not going to get enough of an increase in the selling cost to make the i7 worth while, plus you'll still have the i5 left over doing nothing.
The 1070 makes the most sense, as it'd be the hardest to sell...though the 1660 would be a very close second.

Having 2 of something makes it less secure. What are the chances of someone faking a fingerprint to get into the system? They seem overly paranoid.

While I know it's needed in some companies, I highly doubt it's necessary here, since you, their security/IT expert (and no offense intended to you), is asking on an LTT forum.

dizmo reacted to da na in Is Apple and iOS the better choice for video editing?
Personally I use VideoPad on PC. It's quite easy to get the hang of and has some pretty advanced features. Although, the paid license is $100, but there's a 10 device limit which is much higher than others.

dizmo reacted to DrMacintosh in Is Apple and iOS the better choice for video editing?
Davinci Resolve is a powerful video editor and its free. But something like Final Cut is a paid app (The Pro Apps for Education Bundle gets you permanent licenses for Final Cut, Motion, Compressor, and Logic for only $200) and has a lot more features than the free tier of Davinci Resolve. Would you use those features? Probably not. Does it make sense to buy a Mac just to use FinalCut on one project? Also probably not.

If you were already looking at getting a Mac, having access to Final Cut could be a selling point, but I would not buy a Mac just to get Final Cut Pro for one project.

IMO the Davinci Resolve is quite easy to use and it's a free proffesional video editing SW as well.

I rarely do video editing but Davinci is easy enough for me to cut video properly and some quick edits.

There are some minor pains associated with the free version like x264 encode absolutely sucks for example so don't bother encoding in that. I just encode to ProRes and then quickly re-encode with Handbrake to whatever codec I like. Fully GPU accelerated as well.

Yeah, if the stickers are intended to be a tamper-evident way to label which machine is whose, you don't want them to come off cleanly.

Citrus-based solvent like Goo Gone will also dissolve the adhesive residue without hurting paint. (Petroleum-derived solvents like Goof Off and acetone work, but might attack some finishes and plastics.)

dizmo reacted to LAwLz in Security Question? Is a Finger Scan better than a USB Key to login to your PC.
It is impossible to give a good answers to this without taking the whole system into consideration.
Some might say that a fingerprint is more secure than a password, but most fingerprint systems has passwords as a fall-back. As a result, you now have two attack vectors and whichever one is the weakest will get taken advantage of.

A hardware authentication device such as a YubiKey however is often used as a secondary authentication method. It is usually not a replacement to a username/password but rather it is used in addition to username and password. In the case of YubiKey, it also offers the option to require a physical touch of the device itself in order to authenticate. In those scenarios, the YubiKey serves a purpose even if someone leaves it permanently plugged in to the computer, because it protects against remote attacks. Someone could get your full username and password, with the YubiKey plugged in and remote access to your PC, but still wouldn't be able to login.

Security can usually not be boiled down to simple "this or that" questions. It requires a full overview of the entire system and right now you have not provided us with anywhere near enough info. I would argue that this is not a topic that you should be asking online for. If you need help, which you clearly do, then contacting a consultant is your best bet.

Might as well go for it, if you're going to save a decent amount of coin. I don't think you're really going to notice too much of a difference between the two.
When asking these questions it's usually best to tell us what you're doing with the computer, and what the other components will be, as it'll make a difference on the suggestions given.

The chances of an upgrade path mattering at all are incredibly low, and the Ryzen CPUs that work on AM4 go all the way up to 16c32t.

You have to realize that the point is nobody is going to go through the trouble of faking fingerprints for a mom and pops shop. The type of person who would do that would go for high value targets and most high value targets are ones with alot of money and likewise have spent a significant amount ok security. Now that assumption could be wrong but it does make sense logically.
