earth4s's Achievements

  1. I do a lot of typing during the day and my keyboard is starting to fail (not registering key presses). The new ones that we have at my job feel mushy so I am looking to get something nice. I already have a 80% Durgod at home and like the feel of the layout with my mouse. Unfortunately I just don't like that it replaced one of the "Win" keys with a "Fn" key.
  2. Does anyone know of a basic 80% Mechanical Keyboard that does not have a "Fn" key or other built in features (I.G. Programmable firmware or Macros)? I don't like "Fn" keys on standard keyboards and rather have the "Win" and "Menu" key. The features are something I want to avoid as this will be in an enterprise environment and the Computer Security team are twitchy (Good people but we have to follow a lot of compliance rules). Does such a thing exist?
  3. That's an official Doc from Microsoft so it should work. From what I can tell you just have to be on the right build version of Server 2016.
  4. As a tech this does not surprise me at all. Law enforcement usually pays rewards for information like this all the time. I even remember part of one of the CompTIA certifications making a point on reporting illegal content (I.G. child porn, not software) in the course of repairing a system. The point of recovery of data from "unallocated space" is kinda sketchy as their are a number of free and commercial software that can do this. Depending on why he took his computer for repair I can see one of those tools being used to stumble across those images. Then again Geek squad tech tend to be on the low end of the pay spectrum so I can see them deliberately looking for incriminating evidence for quick cash. For some reason this entire thing comes off as trying to sensationalize something that is a moot point.
  5. I figured as much, I might end up getting a system with a 1050 if it comes to that. The most gaming I'll do is Terraria or Hollow Night as I prefer my desktop for intense gaming sessions. I mainly want a dedicated GPU so I can allocate its resources to some of the VM's I run.
  6. I have a desktop workstation at home and using VPN to connect to is has been awful speed-wise.
  7. I'm looking to replace my old pawn shop Dell e7240 with a more beefy system. The system will be mainly be used for VM's, light gaming, and productivity when I am not at home. I like the Razer Blade 14 but I keep seeing a lot of negative reviews so I am wary of it. The Dell XPS 13 is nice but I it has Intel graphics which I want to avoid. I don't like that the Dell Inspiron gaming because it lacks USB-C or thunderbolt. I'm not looking at Lenovo systems due to some of their questionable business practices that I have seen in the news and personal experience. I also do not like HP systems as they have burned me in the past from both quality and support. I haven't looked into Asus or MSI yet. I perfer to have the following: Nvidia 1060 1080 or 1440 IPS panel 13-14inch screen 16GB Ram that is upgradable. Tunderbolt and/or USB-C i7-7700 or better (Xeon is overkill) Ultrabook like Good battery (4-6 hours?) I'm not dead set on anything and probably asking for something unreasonable.
