  1. DJI Osmo isnt bad... really depends on what type of vloging yo like to do.
  2. You need a minimum of 32Gb for 4k RAW editing. Also, Premier favors high clock speeds over core count... it just how adobe optimizes software. I have zero issues editing REDCODE 4k RAW footage on my 7700k (overclocked to 5.1). But you MUST have over 32GB of ram. Your 1070 will be fine for your Maya. A Quadro card is only good for coloring and demanding 3d Animation (think pixar lol). The speed of your storage is also extremely important, You need to have a minimum transfer speed of 1Gb/S.... I have SSD's in RAID 0 for example.
  3. I dont expect it to... but it is an improvement however small.
  4. Thats where Metal 2 comes in... also i have an editing powerhouse for all the VFX intensive tasks.. This laptop is just for smaller projects and when i cant get to my Desktop.
  5. The price isnt too bad as I usually will keep a laptop for about 4 years... I would give myself an "advanced" level in PP and AE. I do alot of VFX Compositing. But that hardware/software in FCPX is really enticing. I get Adobe CC for "free" from my university... but i guess that will only last one more year ... Also, id be getting the $200 educational pack from apple... that includes all of there flagship software.
  6. Ok, got it (about the H.265). Ill take a look at the Dell e5480 and thinkpad. I don't like the look of the alienware 13 at all... and its quite fat. Thanks!
  7. Hello! I need a portable editing machine to be able to handle 4K REDCODE RAW 8:1 and Blackmagic 2K RAW 30% of the time but mostly to edit 1080p30 from a Canon 6D/t5i as well as the occasional GoPro 4Kp30 and 2.7Kp60 (with PT on). The footage will almost always be on my external LaCie HDD via thunderbolt 3 or USB 3.0/C. I have narrowed my search down to: 1. 2017 13" MacBook Pro i7 (kaby lake), 16Gb ram, and 512Gb SSD $2,500 (with FCPX, Motion, LPX, etc) 2. 2017 Surface Pro 5 with i7 (kaby lake), 16Gb ram, and 512Gb SSD $2,300 (with stylus and keyboard) 3. 2016 Surface Book with i7 (skylake), 16Gb ram, GTX965m, and 512Gb ssd $2,430 Personal pros and cons of each device: 1. MBP: I have never owned an apple computer and have never really liked them. However, there are alot of editors who use FCPX so it might be good to learn. I've also heard the rendering times on FCPX are superior to PP (Premier Pro) on a equally speced windows laptop. Also, all of my devices are USB-C (My google pixel and LaCie). Lastly, I quite like the design. But on the other hand... its a Mac. Oh, H.265 is supported and Metal 2 seems interesting as i can pack up my GTX1080 from my desktop and put it in an external bay. 2. SP5: I have a surface pro 3 i7 and it has lasted me well. However, the thermal throttling and battery life is atrocious. This makes me quite nervous purchasing another SP. My current SP3 can barley edit 1080p content. On the other hand, I love the touchscreen and stylus... really comes in handy for taking notes and photoshop. Oh, come on Microsoft can i please have a USB C port... or at least an extra USB A port... I would like more than 1. 3. SB: It's skylake which means it does not support hardware H.265 encoding. And the GTX965 is last gen. But... It still has to be better than Intel iris plus graphics 640... right? (which the MBP and SP5 have) In conclusion, I would like a Laptop that is able to do quick edits in PP or FCPX for YouTube/Vimeo, minimal After Effects, and able to render out in 4k. I won't be editing any short films or things longer than 15 minutes... I have a custom PC for that. My main priority is to get the job done quick and easy while still looking professional. What are your thoughts? Should I stay within the Microsoft family or buy a Mac (never thought id say that lol) If you have another suggestions for 13" or 14" laptops, please let me know
  8. Specs Below So, the other day I let my BIOS update through Asus AI suite within the OS. I clicked restart and carried out my day... came back a few hours later to find a pc with all of the LED's on the various components (cooler and graphics card) but no power to my Razer keyboard (however there was power going to my iLok USB (it has a small blue light)) or screen. I restarted it multiple times did not POST or turn on screens (both never came out of sleep) and kept giving me a q-code of 09 (pch initialization after microcode loading). I then proceeded to download the BIOS update on my Surface Pro to my flashdrive. I then used Asus's dual BIOS feature to load the bios without actually entering the BIOS (pc power was off). It updated successfully. I restarted and still.... nothing. I then went back and downloaded older BIOS files and flashed them... all successful installs but still nothing.... I then proceeded to order an MSI Z270 board to fix the issue... because this seems like a mobo issue. I installed it and still nothing... exact same issues. I reseated the RAM... removed the RAM.... switched the RAM around... bought RAM from BestBuy still nothing. I then proceeded to do every single troubleshooting thing to do... remove GPU, reseat CPU... etc. These were my observations when I did these things. No RAM yes CPU: RAM error light No RAM or CPU: CPU Error light Yes CPU and RAM: CPU error light So yeah... it's kinda weird that this happened from a BIOS update. I'm leaning toward the fact that it is my CPU, as it was not my RAM or PSU (it was tested and voltages are good). What do you all think? CPU: i7 6700K (OC to 4.5) CPU cooler: Corsair H100i v2 Motherboard: 1st: ASUS ROG VIII maximus Impact (mini-itx) 2nd: MSI Z270I GAMING PRO CARBON AC GPU: EVGA GTX 1080 FTW (yes I did the thermal mod) RAM: Corsair Dominator LPX 2x16Gb (32Gb total) at 2400 HDD: Seagate 3TB 7500 RPM SSD: 2x OCZ Trion 420 in RAID 0 (OS Drive) Case: Corsair Obsidian 250D PSU: Corsair RM650x PC is about 2 months old BTW. I would appreciate any help
