  1. Yea I could do that. But at that point it would be easier, cheaper, and more convenient to just cover with the plexi
  2. That us true but the rear of the case has no 3.5 mounts anywhere
  3. On a really bad day it uses as much 15.6 GB. Probably a lot of back ground stuff going on then. Can faster ram help something such as a gtx 980? Its pretty much slightly better than most mid range graphics cards from this generation. Lol these two comments contradict each other. Anyway it probably is actually both it would just need to situational? Sorry I dont really know much about ram speeds and whatnot
  4. So thos is probably a silly question. Basically it comes to this. I found some ram for cheap enough for me to consider it that runs at 3000MHz. I know ryzen love faster ram (even though the effect would basically nill when running a mid range graphics card). My computer also uses a whole lot of ram. So my question is should I buy 16gb of 2400MHz to make for 32gb total. Or should I buy 3000MHz ram for a total of 16gb. If I buy the faster ram which is what I'd prefer; would the faster speeds keep the ram usage from getting too high because of the ability to empty itself quicker? Or is this not at all how that works?
  5. As cool as that looks, my drive likely woildnt fit into the bay anymore. Still though that matches the look that I'm trying to go for perfectly. Tjis is probably what ill end so doing
  6. Yea and I thought of doing that too. I did that on my graphics card and it works. Ill hold on to that That's actually a good point that I didn't think about. However looking at my drive I don't actually see one of those holes. Now I realize that it looks weird without it. lol I have seen these but these are active. I don't actually need the cooling as my drive never overheats. This is purely for aesthetic. I never actually knew what would happen if I covered that. Now I do. Either way I don't intend for a permeant fixture nor do I plan moving anywhere any time soon
  7. Hello, I have the Corsair Carbide air 540 case. I like the case because it looks very industrial. What I don't like abou8t the case is the way they put the 3.5 hard mounts in. They are hot swappable bays with nothing over the top. Generally hard drives aren't the most aesthetically pleasing parts ever and here I am looking at a white Seagate sticker all the time. I want to put something over the hard drive to make it look nicer. Keeping with the industrial style of the case and everything else, I was wanting to find some passive heat sinks that didn't look stupid. This was actually a surprisingly difficult endeavor They could be super tall if they need to be but I would prefer something low profile. Could I ask the community for assistance in finding something like this. Alternatively if someone out there has any ideas (other than paint) to cover a hard drive, I'm open to suggestions Thanks in advance
  8. So I have heard that running 4 dimms on ryzen is not recommended. But I have also heard that 16GB sticks don't play nice either. So if this is the case how does one run 32GB of ram on a Ryzen system. I was thinking of getting 2 more 8gb sticks at 2400MHz for about $129. But I could also try for 2 16gb sticks at 2800 for $348ish. Obviously that's way more than I want do spend on ram but it would be a good chance for an upgrade since I Know ram speed is apparently very important for gaming on ryzen. Alternatively I could get 2 more 16gb hyper fury sticks to match my current RAM and try to overclock (though ive been quite unsuccessful thus far)
  9. Another reason cpus and really all components cant run this hot is because as heat increases, resistance drops. So by this logic, a hypothetical cpu running at 1.35V and drawing lets say 100A just for the sake of an example. If this cpu has a resistance of 1Mohm this resistance will decrease as the cpu get warmer. So perhaps for example sake again the cpu is running at 110c that resistance couldve dropped to maybe 500kohm. At a voltage of 1.35V the current would effectively doubled to 200A which would be enough to kill the cpu.
  10. So a few days ago I wiped my hard drive (not my bootable add) this had a whole TB of data such as programs, save data, games. Pretty much everything that wassnt my OS. This was unintentional but it still did the job of haveing very few things running in the background. I reinstalled nzxt cam, steam, a few games, battle net, and world of warcraft. At this point i am using 15.8GB of ram. Do I need to upgrade to 32 GB?
  11. Yea I did think about That. I will do that if nothing can pan out from this but id really like not to have to as I would also need to reinstall all of my programs which could take up a whole lot of time. Plus how does activation for windows 10 home work these days? last time It was buggy I had to call support which I really hate doing. No. I left it to what ever windows set it to by default. I tired that but it says that my internet browser of choice is the culprit. if it is then why is this only now an issue?
  12. I have a weird issue. Back when I first built my computer, this thing was a beast at multitasking. I could have absurd amounts of internet tabs open, while playing a game and steaming Pandora all at the same time. But as of late it has gotten less good at doing all that. It's not slow. It still runs really fast just like I would expect. My problem is that it is getting progressively less good at multitasking. It only slows down when the RAM issue surfaces. It eats RAM usage like its going out of style. What used to be cakewalk tasks have become system crashing nightmares. So heres how it all goes. I boot my pc and everything loads very fast as expected. -My starting programs in no particular order are (just everything that loads into the system tray in the background. All of these things do not launch individual programs on screen) -msi afterburner -NZXT CAM -radeon settings -realtek HD audio manager -f.lux -Nvidia settings -steam bootstrapper -powerchute -Malwarebytes. These all take roughly about 3GB of Ram which may sound like a lot but they don't usually increase from there and with 16GB of RAM they go completely unnoticed. I thought it could be malware, but after running several full scans, nothing came back. I also don't have browsing habits of going to sketchy websites. So overall I used to be here -50+ edge/firefox tabs open -Pandora streaming -playing a game -probably having steam or battle.net open in the background idling This used probably 13GB with no issues at all. Now I am here -~10 internet tabs open -playing a game This uses about 15.8GB of memory if I am lucky. When I'm not so lucky, windows gives me a "your system is low on memory error" and everything crashes back to desktop. From what I can tell nothing has really changed from before. system specs: -ryzen 7 1700 -16GB hyper x ddr4 2400 RAM -GTX 980 -128GB m.2 SSD (Boot) [32GB free] -1TB HDD (games and programs) [59GB free] I don't really know what happened. Any help is appreciated. Thank you.
  13. That is really weird. Ok ill try it anyway. But I think do want the higher frame rate though. We'll see.
  14. When I play the game and I have anything moving on screen it creates this very odd effect. The best way I can describe it is like multiple copies of the same image displayed over the moving object. So for example, if I am in a car driving around I will see a small trail or that same car following me. This may not sound like a big deal but the more movement on screen the worse it gets. So cutscenes are so hard to watch because of this issue. All I really know about it is that turning v sync on helps helps tremendously, as the game is unplayable without it. For a long time I though it was my monitor, but since it's the only game with that issue I'm not thinking it's a hardware issue. Is there something I can do to reduce or eliminate it?
  15. I miss that the controller just works with everything. On pc maybe 30% of games have good native controller support while the rest have to be custom mapped for that
  16. I will for sure. That sucks about the Hz thing though. Is it a bandwidth issue perhaps? My panel is supposed to do 75 but I can also set it to 60. Which would you think it would run at?
  17. Yea, I figured it was an estimate. I guess what I really meant is just thw noticable increase. At this point, even though I havent tied DSR, I will shy away from thw high end monitor for now. Ill probably get one at some point. I still hate that I can't find even a 1080 panel at 120 or 100hz but I suppose what I have will do for now. Again I tried virtual super resolution (amds version of dsr) and noticed little to no effect. However I do still want to try dsr. I will try this when I get home and play a few games. And I will report back. If I can get my current monitor to overclock at all, even to 80hz, I think I would run dsr and PC all the time and that wpuld pretty much fix it for me
  18. With the inflation as high as it is right now, thats not really an option for me.
  19. Hey 75% better and its free. If there really is higher visuals from that I should just do that and forget a new monitor entirely
  20. Ill give this a try when I get home. You noticed a visual dofference with dsr? I used virtual super resolution on my rx480 and noticed no real effect.
  21. Hm. So it sounds like to me from what everyone is saying that the 980 just couldn't handle 3440x1440. I could try that. I didnt realize that existed on my card. I guess I just assumed that because I couldnt findthe setting. If nothing else it would prove what everyone is saying. 1080 and 1080ti territory is beyond my price range for pretty much ever. And I assumed that a panel like this would also be. When I saw this one though, I got excited. So overall what's better higher game settings or higher resolution?
  22. My current panel is like that. 75 hz without and kind of sync
