  1. Must be flying car day... http://hothardware.com/news/aeromobil-wants-to-get-your-george-jetson-on-with-its-flying-car https://techcrunch.com/2017/04/20/uber-will-live-stream-its-first-elevate-vtol-summit-april-25-27/ While the concept may seem neat, the practicality of it really doesn't make much sense in an urban environment, especially considering the issues you have with aviation today. It would be better/more efficient to move more of this traffic into something like mass transit and tunnel systems than to elevate it above the ground, especially with improvements in electric vehicles, batteries and power delivery.
  2. It might not be an intended use, however there are people who do lend their cards to their spouse or kids for purchases. Seems like a limiting factor that Mastercard may want to address.
  3. That was one of my thoughts on this. My best guess is that maybe they want you to chop off your finger...
  4. Mastercard has decided to begin testing a system to do away with PINs or requiring a signature for your credit card purchases. Their solution, use a fingerprint. Now this isn't something like NFC verification with the fingerprint scanner on your phone, but actually having a built in fingerprint sensor on the edge of the card to use. According to an article on TechSpot: http://www.techspot.com/news/69028-mastercard-testing-credit-cards-embedded-fingerprint-sensors.html Assuming the current testing in South Africa goes well, they are hoping to roll this out to Europe and Asia later in the year and maybe worldwide before the end of 2017. Some issues I can see, this may not be as secure as they are assuming considering I've seen quite a few videos on fingerprint sensors being overridden. Another issue I can think of is the durability of the sensor. I know that my card usually looks in bad shape after about a year or two in my wallet.
  5. Problem with that is that most prestigious schools are not about how smart you are anymore (unless you're on a grant or scholarship), it's more about how much money you (or more likely your parents) are willing to pay for the privilege of having a degree from (insert school name of choice). On topic though, maybe some family/hospital can sue an ISP if a critical system is not provided due to the costs associated and the sharp gouging in prices. I would prefer that public funded organizations such as school, EMS, police services, etc. are exempted from paying ISPs since that money they are paying with for the services are coming from tax-payers. (Quick thought: maybe some of the districts that have an issue like this occur can place a new local tax on the ISP to pay for public services...)
  6. You could look for something like a PWM Fan Hub to put in your case... Probably a better idea than trying to daisy chain several fan splitters.
  7. I've never used this mode in games as I've never hit the Windows key while in a game. I have hit it though while using the Ctrl+Alt+Print Screen command...
  8. While I agree that the situation could have been handled better from both sides, I think the doctor will probably lose his case against United for any injuries as those are not a direct action of United staff. Any case he has against United would have been a lot stronger for breach of contract had he cooperated with the security staff when they came in to remove him. One of the problems is, once he refused to cooperate with the security staff, he made himself a security risk (although probably very minor) to the plane and his right to be on the plane could be revoked.
  9. That is another option to consider, especially since the major difference is that the XZ has a 23 MP image sensor and the XZs had a 19 MP sensor. Although, I'm not sure if the XZs sensor is more sensitive to lights/colors than the XZ...
  10. I'm looking at the Sony XZs to replace my S6 Edge in about a year or so myself. About the only thing I'm not sold on yet with it is the lack of OIS on the camera. Other than that, it appears to be really well set up.
  11. They could be looking at using some of what would be the worse off RX550 chips as mobile GPU chips... It seems like they have fairly similar specs between the 550 and 540.
  12. Probably shouldn't respond to this as your comments seem fairly short sighted and trollish, however, there are many reasons why someone may not wish to upgrade or be able to upgrade their OS to Win10. This could include things like driver support for legacy hardware, software support and compatibility and even things like enterprise licensing issues.
  13. In addition to the new stack of Polaris Refresh cards that AMD has just released, they are also going to push out yet another Polaris Card for lower power consumption and targeting the mobile notebook market. This new card is going to sit just below the RX 550 (thus it will be the RX 540). From the TechReport (http://techreport.com/news/31764/radeon-rx-540-offers-a-tiny-slice-of-polaris-power-to-notebooks): It is good to note that this is being targeted at lower power and lower end notebook market to provide something better than the onboard graphics on most mobile CPUs so I would expect this to be for something like a notebook used to stream Youtube or maybe play some less graphics intensive games on the go... Definitely not going to be competing with the $3000 beasts of laptops with dual 1080 SLI. Would anyone actually be interested in one of these in a notebook or a low power PC? 14. That's what I've been thinking about since reading about this yesterday... Probably the easiest way for Microsoft to implement something will be to just change how the CPU is checked into looking at a key written on the BIOS (maybe based on the chipset on the motherboard).
  15. If you do this, you should record the thermals from the card and also see if you can 'overclock' the new BIOS based OC of the card... Would be kind of interesting to see how stable this really is and how much headroom you gain on the BIOS flash over a factory 580.
  16. His video was on the differences between LGA and PGA sockets. From what I remember, he said that he has not had much success with bending pins back in LGA sockets but has had more success with bending pins back on PGA CPUs.
  17. Been doing some digging on the topic myself and there is not much in the literature about the details, but I did find a nice little paper from 2012 titled: 'Light controlled magnetoresistance and magnetic field controlled photoresistance in CoFe film deposited on BiFeO3'. It seems like this is probably an improvement on the ideas presented in this paper, maybe with different materials. https://arxiv.org/ftp/arxiv/papers/1207/1207.0314.pdf
  18. I have to admit that I enjoyed the first season, but the second season seemed to go off the rails a bit... Still need to watch the movie.
  19. RAM does have heat production, just nowhere in the neighborhood of the CPU or GPU where it requires an active cooling solution. Most of the time you'll see a heat spreader over the RAM chips that are supposed to help to passively cool them.
  20. In an interesting turn of events, I guess someone made a script that serves as a workaround for the CPU check on this to provide the patch updates... From the BleepingComputers Article: https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/microsoft/user-made-patch-lets-owners-of-next-gen-cpus-install-updates-on-windows-7-andamp-8-1/ Fairly sure that Microsoft doesn't want this and may find a way to patch it out in the near future...
  21. So a quick question... Are the performance graphs posted anywhere for viewing besides the video or is there anyway to look at them aside from pausing the video? This is kind of an issue I've had with multiple reviews on different channels where these graphs are flashed on the screen for a couple of seconds so you then have to scrub back in the video to view them in detail.
  22. I agree get a 580 over a 480, but most of the game benches, it depends on which games you play. DX12 and Vulkan games appear to have the 1060 and 580 running fairly even or the 580 doing slightly better, while the DX11 games appear to still have better performance from the 1060.
  23. In an article posted on HEXUS and the University of Victoria, Canada news page, chemists with the University of Victoria have developed a new material that will allow for the development of Light Induced Magnetoresistive RAM. Compared to the current materials and standards used in RAM, the new material and LI-RAM would consume 10% less power, operates at a faster speed, has a higher durability and generates almost no heat. From the UVic News post: http://www.uvic.ca/science/home/home/news/current/uvic-chemist-patents-energy-efficient-computer-memory.php As this points out, there probably will not be a consumer technology based on this material for about 10 years (assuming something else doesn't come along that works better) but it could be interesting to see future computer technology based on using light instead of electricity to write bits to magnetic storage. It sounds like this will allow for higher density magnetic storage as opposed to the current memory storage mediums. 24. Seems like Ars Technica has you covered... https://arstechnica.com/cars/2017/04/fate-of-the-furious-may-be-fun-but-it-made-my-brain-hurt/
  25. I would seriously look at a CPU upgrade before the GPU... The 8350 is a lot older processor/architecture and (as others have mentioned) may be providing a CPU bottleneck, especially if you mainly work/game in 1080p resolutions.
