If your parents are the type to actually think that Video Games cause Mental Disorders, you won't be getting through to them any time soon.  That's some deep-level ignorance.

Learn to ignore them and just wait until you can get away ASAP.

Vantage9 got a reaction from mech in Samsung CF397 32" refresh rate
Product description on Amazon says 60hz.  Its a VA panel with 4ms response time, so not great for gaming if that's your purpose.

Vantage9 got a reaction from Enderman in Samsung CF397 32" refresh rate
Sure, but if you're in the market for a monitor, why not buy one geared towards your primary use?  VA panels are like the inbetween panel for people who can't decide between IPS (pretty for productivity users and relaxed gamers) and TN (faster for competitive gamers).

The 8600K is genuinely faster than the 7700K, and you also have a future upgrade path if you want.  The 7700K is topping out that platform, and the Ryzen is the budget option.

There are also generation & efficiency differences that can make newer processors better, despite slower clock speeds.

For example, its like car engines.  If you look at a 3 liter V6 engine from the 80's vs a 3 liter V6 engine from today, the modern engine puts out way more power because its more efficient - despite having identical specs.

Apple is the embodiment of preying on the ignorant.

They make kinda pretty things and have pushed the image of a status symbol, all to sell you overpriced hardware that is not meant to last or be upgraded.  Their OS's are a travesty of childlike simplicity that encourages people to understand less about computers and technology, not more.  iOS should be the go-to for tech-illiterate grandparents only.

Its a big deal, yes, but I wouldn't expect the long term fallout you're thinking.  Not unless this happens with EA's next big release, too.

“We’re not giving up on the notion of MTX,” Jorgensen said. “We’re learning and listening to the community in terms of how best to roll that out in the future, and there’s more to come as we learn more. But I would say we’re certainly not changing our strategy.”
    https://idealgamer.net/news/ea-says-cosmetic-microtransactions-wont-work-for-battlefront-2/

If you look at the 3 month graph of EA's stock price, you realize that this downward trend was kind of already happening.  There's not really any hard evidence that this wouldn't have happened with or without BF2.

Bad press matters, but if EA's next big game launches without problems and sells even decently, then Wall Street will forget all about this entirely.  They have a drastically short memory.

Vantage9 got a reaction from Tiberiusisgame in How are Old-stock prices justified?
    Lots of special cases.
Amazon is like no other retailer.  They have warehouses of inventory, but only certain kinds of inventory.  A lot of stuff that says its being sold "by Amazon" is actually coming from another retailer, re-seller, or manufacturer - depending.  Amazon's entire business model is built on this network of sources.  If you want to be a top-tier Amazon partner, you have to be able to meet their requirements for things like Prime shipping, etc.
Titans, of any generation, are rare.  They don't make many of them at all.  They can retain full price simply out of scarcity, not based on performance.
This is actually true (supply vs performance) for many PC components, regardless of scarcity.  For example, old CPU models retain their prices because they aren't cross compatible with different chipsets.  So if a company MUST replace a CPU in a server with an older chipset, they HAVE to buy that older model CPU or else replace the whole system.

Most of this has to do with retailer to manufacturer relationships.

Your average retailer doesn't keep a lot of inventory.  A particular Microcenter might only have 5 of any given video card at a time.  So if they end up sitting on four 980Ti's, they're not committing a ton of money to those units.  It doesn't hurt them to let it sit for a while and try to get full price.  If they reduce the prices, they will likely not make any money on inventory that they already paid the manufacturer for.

The cheapest 980Ti on Newegg right now is $800, but that's a retailer.  You can buy a B-Stock 980Ti from EVGA for $487, as they're a manufacturer.

Vantage9 got a reaction from Damascus in How much extra on top of parts would a "BestBuy Customer" be willing to pay for a Custom PC?
Are you asking because you want to make a custom build and sell it to this imaginary "Best Buy Customer"?  If so, I think the premise is flawed.

The entire point of buying a prebuilt from a place like Best Buy is the ease of returns and support.  The type of person who buys a PC at best buy looks at it like they do an appliance or TV.  This type of buyer has little to no understanding of parts, their prices, or performance.  The only thing that matters about the price is its price in relation to the other Best Buy computers around it.

That being said, they don't actually price gouge TOO much, but those prices don't have anything to do with the traditional retail value of the parts inside of it.  The companies who actually make the prebuilts get the parts at wholesale prices, and so the markup is based on that.

Do you have a gaming rig?  If so, get a decent video card like a 1070 or 1080 and do a little mining in your free time with Nicehash.com.  That will get your feet wet.  Once you start to wrap your head around the basics, ask this question again.

You are sorta wasting money with all the redundant gaming stuff, in my opinion.  With a top-tier gaming PC, the only reason to buy any console at all is if there are specific exclusive games you want to play on it.  That list is short enough for me that it's not worth the money for the console+accessories+games.  Just keep upgrading your PC setup, add VR, etc etc.  Consoles are for people that don't know any better.

Because people are going to buy the hell out of this, that's why.  Mark my words, this will be the highest selling Titan card ever.  Period.  Do you realize how few people even know what Pascal architecture is?  Out of the people who are knowledgeable enough to build their own PCs (already a niche of people), only a even smaller minority of them follow things like production architecture generations.  The vast majority of people who buy this will only know that its the most expensive, fastest video card you can buy, and it says Star Wars.  What the fuck else is there to know?
