  1. Yeah, encrypting a drive makes it slower. There are various ways of encrypting a drive; with various performance sacrifices. I personally rarely encrypt my entire drives, if I do, I do so with LUKS as that's the standard on most Linux distros. Otherwise, I just encrypt the files with Veracrypt which works pretty well.
  2. Budget (including currency): £2000/$2500USD/2330EURO Country: United Kingdom Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Virtualization: VirtManager (Mainly), VirtualBox (For University), Boxes (messing around with oses) One ParrotOS VM running 24/7 that I'll use for SSH and SFTP I won't run more than 3-4 VMs at a time (Majority of the time only 1 unless dealing with malicious software or live analysis), a combination of Parrot OS, Fedora, Zorin Lite, Windows 10/11 & Non GUIs: Centos Stream and Fedora Server I run common networking and CS apps like GNS3, Wireshark, IDEs, things you'd find on Parrot OS & Fedora security lab - for Uni, CTFs, etc. Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): I'm running an LG Ultrawide 2560*1080 monitor, don't plan on upgrading to anything higher res perhaps getting a second used one in the future. And I've got top notch peripherals already. Games I'd like to occasionally run: Hitman Franchise Red Dead Redemption 2 GTA IV CS2 Forza Euro Truck Simulator 2 City state & City State 2 Rocket League Mafia 1 & 2 The Forest & sons of the forest COD World At War Dont Starve Together Watch Dogs 1 PUBG Beamng with some mods (content related, not graphical improvements) Assetto Corsa Ride Some emulation (Red Dead redemption 1, 007 Reloaded, etc) I'd rather have a better CPU and more ram paired with like a lower or mid-tier GPU, I was thinking about a 1050Ti 4GB that I can buy for £50 or a new gen xx50 GPU, but I'm not sure how that handle things like PUBG, RDR2 etc as I've not been keeping up with the hardware news. Obviously the budget is £2k but the lower the better. I don't need a 24c/48t cpu etc. A well performing 6-8core would suit. In 2020 I had a R5 3600 / 16GB/ 1050Ti 4GB and it was fine, but had to go as I was travelling a lot - with that being said the smaller the form factor the better as I still move 3 times a year. Thanks in advance
  3. Any motorcyclists here tested it in the rain? Most water-resistant/proof backpacks fail in the rain, even at 30mph. The LTT coming in at $350 USD with taxes and shipping to my parts of the world makes it the same price as my current Klim - with only a waterproof laptop compartment whilst everything else gets soaked, so it's actually an excellent deal, even in comparison to large adventure backpacks.

  5. Budget (including currency): £350ish Country: United Kingdom Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Euro Truck Simulator 2, Farming Sim, Forza, CSGO, Warzone, Ark Survival, PUBG, SpinTires & Snow runner @ 1080p & 1440p Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): This is the current build: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/37CFDq I'd like to upgrade the now kinda dated 1050Ti, but I've been out of the loop with new hardware. What would be a good GPU to pair with the Ryzen 5 3600? I also only have a 450W PSU, a RTX2060(£285 on amazon) takes me up to 319W according to PCPartsPicker, A RTX3060(£379 on amazon) to 329W. Or maybe an AMD card? Any recommendation would be great?
  6. I need a secondary SSD for my Thinkpad, the spare slot fits a 2242 and it will only run at 1x. I was wondering if it's better to spend the £50ish for a small capatacity SSD or get an external type C ssd/enclosure. I will use it as a windows boot drive like twice a year for uni projects. Any suggestions will be appropriated. Thanks in advance.
  7. Nevermind, I've installed mesa after update the xorg intel driver and it's fine now.
  8. Hi, I'm running Ubuntu 20.04 on a Thinkpad T480s with an external monitor, the laptop screen is perfectly smooth however, everything on the monitor is choppy, feels like its running at 10fps. Laptop never exceeds 60% load, any ideas on how to fix this? Specs: I7- 8650U - Integrated GPU 24 GB Ram

What RollinLower said. Mine is quite well weighted.
  10. Selfridges are selling the IOS variant of Momentums for £39.99 from £79.99. £20 cheaper then Amazons pre-black Friday deal. https://www.selfridges.com/GB/en/cat/sennheiser-momentum-ios-in-ear-headphones_875-10044-SENMOMINIBLACK/?cm_mmc=PLA-_-Google-_-HOMETECH-_-SENNHEISER&POR=Y&gclid=Cj0KCQiAq97uBRCwARIsADTziya2q9G8djKvWB8ZfrpqOC8nvuZoeyBi2qLUJM_UZ-RmQiocisbjIYMaAmHFEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds
  11. I recently played around with some broken iPhones and started to use an iPhone X, just as I got bored of it and ready to sell, so I could return to an OnePlus 6T, a Jailbreak was released. So I guess I'll be keeping it for a little longer.

Damn it Linus, knew I shouldn't have bought that iFixit kit; being converted into an Apple fan.

  12. I still have my old hard-drive dualbooted windows 10 and Fedora, in my new PC, after reinstalling graphics drivers it works fine. Although in previous builds I couldn't even get windows to boot. But if you reinstall the drivers it should work afasik.
  13. The Eve V is 850Euro for i5, 8gb, 256. And 1200 for I7, 16gb ram and 512ssd. I personally bought a surface one of my mates bought the Eve and to be honest when I used it I was surprised. It has a nice screen and good keyboard however the surface keyboard has flex while typing and imho it feels like it has longer strokes which I preferred. Nonetheless it's a great device to consider. TLDR: https://euro.evedevices.com//products/eve-v/#redir Cheaper surface Alternative
  14. Has he recently refreshed or reinstalled windows? Like Samcool55 said, it looks like a broken install of windows.

I just want to say that I condemn the BBC Watch…

I also use Monzo as my Primary bank and so do many of my peers as they signed up when Monzo was giving away the referral bonuses. And I know plenty of people who had their Monzo accounts frozen because they where doing that "Card Loading" and "Money flips" of Snapchat and Instagram. And rightfully so they froze all their funds some people had around £5000 in there. But everyone who uses the bank normally and legally without doing illegal bullshit hasn't had any problem. I'm just watching the report now, they don't seem to give detail about it and the first blokes money that didn't come in, surely that has to be the employers fault rather then banks.
  16. Well I mean I can go over just prefer not too, from the thread that minibois posted I researched Herman Miller and steelcase, I found 1 Steelcase chair for 100 and a ton of sub £150 Herman Miller chairs from offices, just a really long drive from my location. Crazy how they just sell them for 1/8th of retail.
  17. Ty, Gonna try it out this weekend, I've tried my mates DX Racer chair and imo it's just a gimmicky look, that feels like a cheap Argos chair; so I'm, staying away from "Gaming" chairs.
  18. What are some good Desk Chairs/Desk Chair brands? I'm on a budget I don't really want to spend over £200 - not sure if that's realistic or not? Any help would be appreciated

  20. So, everyone complained that our college computers are slow.

The college has decided to upgrade the computers (9th gen CPUs) nice workstations. But they forgot about the server, and it still takes 10 minutes to login. Great Job lads.

  21. I've got a quick question, I routed a usb header cable from my motherboard under my gpu to my WiFi card to use it's usb port. The usb header cable is touching the motherboard underneath my gpu. Will this cause static electricity build up? Pictures attached.
  22. I just bought a Asrock Steel Legend, it works; that is all I can say as I havent had time to preform any benchmarks yet.
