ProRules got a reaction from c0d0ps in 2x8 single ranked diims or 4x8 single ranked? future proofing
Has nothing to do with channel but rather rank.
Dual ranked dimm is basically a dimm which has chips on both sides.
This results in usually a little loosened timings and clock speeds (IMC works harder too) but the CPU can access both sides simultaneously which can then actually increase the performance because you can run two tasks on the same ram module, each using one side if you will.
With single ranked ram, one task might have to wait for the other task that occupies the ram to complete.

Some applications can even prefer running 2 single ranked dimms per 1 channel, running single channel but dual rank. which means you give up dual channel, that's of course not recommended generally speaking.

In games, dual rank and dual channel are benefitial.
I might want to occupy 4 slots with 4 sticks of 8gb single channel dimms, those g.skill tridentz 3600 cl15.
    Thing is, the motherboards..
Like 99% of them are daisy chain, 2 slots (1 per channel) are high spec, but the other two are usually low spec, that's my issue.

i did read your thread, and i answered as best as i could. But i cannot give a definitive answer with the knowledge that i have.
As stated, they should work, at a max of 2400mhz. I do not know if the mainboard will support the timing or instead set it differently tho.

I also answered the other question:

    Hi there,

In theory the new sticks with CL14 should work, if they will work at CL14 i do not know, i think the mainboard also needs to be able to support this? (never read much about how CL works precisely)
I'm not familiar with your system in particular, but i know prebuild machines can have very specific demands for the used memory. Such as only allowing sticks with ram on 1 side (forgot the exact specification for this, but this was the tell tale).

For the 16GB vs 32GB question, i would recommend 8 - 16 for gaming and every day use.
When playing early acces games or doing rendering and the likes, i would recommend 16 - 32gb.

Well yeah technically 2K is 1080Px2 and 4k is 1080Px4.
But i also think that on a fairly small screen like 27 inch, a jump from 1080p to 2k, is much more "noticeable" by our perception compared to a jump from 2k to 4k.

The DELL U2718Q is the 4K variant. As for 4K itself, the difference at 27" screen size isn't that big as when you go from 1080p to 1440p at that size, and you need to have a GPU that can support it well-enough Up to you IMO.

I personally love my Asus PB258Q 25" 60Hz IPS displays, I think there's a 27" variant but its color accuracy and viewing angles are phenomenal.

    GDI completely forgot to mention,
I prefer 15 inch since 13 is too small for me.
I can give up on the 16 gigs of ram if i can upgrade in the future.

ProRules reacted to Sakkura in Should i run single rail or multiple rails mode? whats the difference?
Having multiple 12V rails makes it a little easier for an individual rail to be overloaded and cause the power supply to shut down. With 7 rails at 40A each, it's basically impossible for an overload shutdown (OCP) to happen from a legitimate load, but it could conceivably happen if there's a partial short-circuit in a connector. Then having the lower 40A limit for the rail with that connector increases the chance that whatever's connected won't get burnt to a crisp before the unit shuts down.

The ratings don't mean each rail can supply 40A simultaneously, just that the shutoff point (OCP) for each rail is around 40A (probably slightly higher, eg. 44A).

TL;DR multiple rail mode theoretically increases safety slightly.

Nope, it shouldn't. Corsair would have had to put like all the PCIe power connectors and the CPU power connector on one rail for you to possibly exceed 40A (480W) on one of the rails, and they're not that stupid.

A low-quality or damaged power connector could have a partial short-circuit so it draws a lot of power and starts to melt or burn. That can damage the connected device, without the current having exceeded the 70.8A that would shut down the power supply in single-rail mode. With the lower 40A limit, it's more likely that the power supply would shut down.

I don't think it would affect other components powered from the same rail.

That block is actually pretty heavy (heavier then the acrylic ones), but it should be fine since it's sitting vertical so the weight is being distributed better  so sagging shouldn't be problem.

Skylake-X has a "mesh design" that is in many ways similar to the Infinity Fabric. I think they did it to overcome the scalability issues of the previous generation's high core count CPUs, where some cores had direct access to memory and I/O, and the others had to go "through them". As with the infinity fabric, that comes with some latency costs (or I should say with one form of latency, to prevent another form of latency ).

Yes, the metals nickel, brass and copper can be added within the same loop without any problems, just remember that if you are using nickel that no silver kill coils are used since they can potentially cause corrosion since they are boderline dis-similar metals.
