Shrout Research was paid by Intel to make an Optane 900p white paper including new testing methodology for it. All 900p drives and testing methodology were used in PCPer review by same author of both White paper and PCPer review. This was a review of an optane drive that other review outlets had less access to.

Not to mention, especially for PC Parts, we are the minority here. Most people guying a graphics card don't know shit from shingles. Having someone to talk to and get advice from is important to your average layman (even if that advice is potentially wrong, but that's a different issue).

Talking to an actual person can't be replaced by your favorite youtuber telling you a products good or even a 5 star rating on Amazon. Maybe for some purchases but definitely not all.
 
The Key to Brick and Mortar is having friendly staff, that are not just knowledgeable about the products they're selling but are also very intune with the industry.
Another key component is building relationships with the customers that walk through the door and make them feel valued.

Amazon doesn't ask me how i'm doing when I visit their site or tell me they will hold an item for me until payday because i'm a frequent shopper.

Brick and mortars are dieing for many reasons but its mainly from self inflicted wounds opposed to the E-commerce revolution.

The really sad part here guys, is the fact that NCIX's emploding is having a massive ripple effect on the entire Canadian market.
When they own tens of millions of dollars to distribution partners, and have been apparently moving large sums of money into real estate overseas and trusts for the better part of a year now - instead of paying creditors (Rumor from inside the industry - grain of salt please), it leaves all the other retailers to basically pay the difference.... even though they had nothing to do with NCIX.
 
So, Distribution will raise prices for everyone, to make up for the millions they are going to lose from NCIX declaring bankruptcy... and this uneasiness is even leading to a lot of people making rash, poorly planned or thought out decisions... which will drag some into even more trouble.
 
Lots more to the story here - but like Linus, I need to stay at about a 6/10 on details - but this is far from over and I'm sorry guys - you, the consumer, are going to be the ones stuck paying for it....  Which sucks even more.

The sad part about this really is the YouTube Channel.
 
Honestly NCIX Tech Tips was superior to Linus Tech Tips for a while.
Ever since LTT "evolved" to the super high quality standards, but lowered their information value down to "it depends!" and "we are not gonna step on anyones toes, even if it is Satan itself!". On .Every. Single. Video.
 
Pretty to watch, but also useless 9/10 times.
 
It was such a plesure to get daily actual information from NCIX and i really, really miss Netlinked daily. It was just a short daily burst of real tech informations, presented in a funny way. When it went away i realized how lacking LTT became in comparison in the past year or two.
 
So i am sad,...like really sad. Even tho i don't live near any NCIX Store and never considered buying from that horrible web page.

but it sounds much more badass. "Bankruptcy" is such a boring word.

We aren't actively hiring right now though. The team is pretty optimized at the moment. 

Problem with that now is it doesn't even allow him to get into Windows and the display hard crashes before that. 

(OP's friend here. We've exhausted almost all soft-fixes such as installing updating BIOS etc.)

Even that would be completely untenable on the kind of scale that a business like AMD/Intel operates at.
 
That kind of Mickey Mouse nonsense might have happened in the past with ES chips in the old days, but reviewers have retail Ryzen chips. There's no pixie dust in them.

Fanboy Edition is the only way to go.

I doubt it. They've already sold millions of chips to computer manufacturers and retailers. They'll either have to wait for all those to sell out, OR offer significant rebates to the manufacturers and retailers and go explain to their investors why the revenue they reported is no longer accurate. Not to mention suddenly dropping the price to be competitive with Ryzen would piss off consumers and, more importantly, the companies that just bought 20,000 Intel machines at a much higher price the day before.
 
The only real remedy for this is to release new/rebranded chips, or drop prices slowly over time.

i think intel is kinda fucked right now. if it has a competitive price, they are gonna have some pretty pissed off consumers who have bought their cpus for more than a 1000 bucks.

that's like saying mercedes is coming out with a new version of their top sedan to crush the honda civic market.

You could just look at the stock benchmarks, then look at the overclocked benchmarks, and expect to get performance somewhere in the middle or slightly towards the OC results, if you suspect that AMD is sending out golden samples to reviewers.
 
 
It's a very dishonest thing to do. Reviewers are meant to show consumers what they will get if they buy a product. It should not showcase what a consumer might get if they hit the jackpot.
 
Remember that CS:GO gambling site that a youtuber pretended like he just found when in reality he owned the site? It's the same deal here. You could say that his videos were "demonstrating what someone could get if they were extremely lucky", but that's dishonest and does not belong in a review. At least not if someone is intentionally giving reviewers samples which are better that what the average consumer will get.
 
If it happens unintentionally then fine. If a lottery company sent out two tickets to 20 people and most people didn't win anything or just a few dollars, then that's fair. If every single "reviewer" of the lottery system hit the jackpot and went "wow look at how good this lottery is! Everyone wins all the time!" then it's scummy.
