  1. its really up to you. for the computers i build i always buy used. as long as you buy from a reputable seller you should be good. here’s a few examples all with sellers over 99% positive feedback 1070 https://www.ebay.com/itm/155350578230?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=2bCBlDMmSmy&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=ZqvfcQYkSbC&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY 1080 https://www.ebay.com/itm/325364269767?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=Bur8NZm3S4y&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=ZqvfcQYkSbC&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY 1080ti https://www.ebay.com/itm/165909653034?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=i8UdcXQWSZW&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=ZqvfcQYkSbC&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
  2. should be a very solid build! if you want some advice you can go on ebay and purchase a used gtx 1070 for around $130, and it will preform similarly to a 1660ti. or alternatively a 1080 will run you about $200, 1080ti around $240. that’s if you’re willing to go used. as for everything else it all looks good. i’ve personally used the gamdias apollo case and it was great to work with, very nice fans aswell although not a ton of airflow. i’m a big fan of the button controlled ARGB fans. here’s a pic of mine that i’ve sold
  3. recently i purchased an i7 5775c for my ASUS z97-pro gamer motherboard. currently i have 16gb of hyperx fury 1866mhz DDR3 ram. upon installing the new cpu, the system simply did not boot. after removing a few sticks the system booted correctly. i cannot for the life of me get the system to POST with more than 2 sticks of ram installed. did some more research on the 5775c and intel specifies it takes DDR3L memory at 1.35V. the hyperx kit i have is 1.5V but everywhere else i look online says it shouldn’t matter what ram i have in the system. even with that, undervolting and underclocking the ram did nothing. the system works perfectly fine with my xeon e3 1220 v3 processor with all ram installed, so i know the mobo or the ram cannot be defective. should i bite the bullet and buy a kit of ddr3L or is there anything else i can try with my kit? full specs i7-5775c asus z97 pro gamer 16gb hyperx 1866mhz memory gtx 1080ti kingston a400 240gb WD blue 1tb stock intel cpu cooler thermaltake 700w rgb no chassis at the moment
  4. Well the main reason I want a 1070 is because the 1650 super cannot keep up with a 144hz monitor and in the future I will get one. A 1070ti is around 240 though, so I may get one of those.
  5. Ok so my birthday is coming up and I wanted to get myself something nice and you can get a gtx 1070 for around $200 usd here in the US. Is it a bad idea to buy now? The rtx 3070 and 3060 will be coming out soon and big Navi as well, but their lower end cards won’t be coming for a while. I don’t think prices will change much in the coming months but my 1650 super may drop in value quicker (currently going for $130 on eBay) What do you guys think?
  6. Just asked the seller and he said that when he first got the board he made that mistake lol. Let’s hope he didn’t make any other mistakes using this board
  7. Ok so it’s probably just the controller for the FireWire port, plugged in a FireWire header and no luck with it. I guess it’s a good thing FireWire is dead
  8. It’s not a connector as far as I can tell, I think it may be a controller for some kind of port around it
  9. I bought this board about a month ago and everything looked fine on it and now I’m taking a closer look at it and there’s something burnt on the bottom of it. I looked back on the original listing pic and it’s there. I’ve been using it just fine and got a stable OC of 4ghz on an i7 960 so it must be non essential. The board is an msi x58a-gd45. I think it may be the connection for the FireWire port and the previous owner plugged in a usb connector on it or something. Any help is appreciated
  10. This is a high quality board though, the capacitors on it are rated for 14yrs if used stock (according to the box). But if it does fail, whoever buys one of my PCs gets my business card with my email on it. If there are any problems down the line with the board down the line I’ll be responsible.
  11. Yeah I’m sure I’m looking at the right numbers. I guess I’ll heed your advice, it’s a shame too it looks like I won the silicon lottery with this one. I suppose it’s better than getting an angry email 1 year down the line saying the pc fried itself
  12. Alright so I got a deal from a friend on an i7 960 16GB of G.SKILL RipjawsX and an msi x58a-gd45 motherboard for $50. He got it new in 2011 and never overclocked on either the chip or the board. I’m planning to use this in a cheap gaming rig to sell locally but I wanted to see how it overclocks first. I got it up to 4.02 ghz without touching any voltages with the cpu multiplier at 175x23. I’ve been running cinebench r20, prime 95, Aida 64 and playing games on it all day and haven’t had any problems yet. The max temp I got on a hyper 212 evo is 85C with room temps around 30C. The voltage stays constant at 1.28v on the cpu core. From what I’ve heard most of these chips need around 1.38v to be stable. I’m pretty new to overclocking and never did it on a platform as old as this. I want to know, is this sustainable? Is it a good idea to sell it this way? I got a reasonable improvement in games and cinebench r20 scores went from 1062 to 1301. Any experience is greatly appreciated
  13. Ill probably underclock it, just to be safe
  14. Its a 500BQ and theyre EVGA ACX FTW 780s, theyre pretty high quality and the guy I bought them from had them underclocked to stock speeds
