Sounds like it could get a little toasty in there. Those temps you mentioned seem reasonable given the components and setup. Even a relatively basic tower cooler may help a little over the stock cooler. It could presumably aid in the Noctua cross ventilation from the front to the back and be a little more efficient in removing the heat from the CPU.

That is, if you really wanted to CPU fold. Between the 3060Ti and 3700X, you're probably better off sticking to GPU only. It's way better for PPD and will drop the case temps (and fan noise!) quite a bit. If you're interested in CPU, you can fire it up for the BOINC Pentathlon this spring 😄

    Good tips in here,

I have a Ryzen 7 3700x and a RTX 3060ti in a Fractal Meshify case with Noctua front and back fans for airflow.

I'm still using the stock cooler (i know lol) I've been eyeballing the NH-D15 for a long time. It can't hold up on those 100% loads 😞

I may just run the GPU for now.

Those temps are technically fine but what CPU/GPU do you fold with and what is the case/fan situation like? Obviously, some chips run hotter than others, but if you're folding with both CPU and GPU the airflow in your case could really be a large contributing factor.

On a side note, you may decide, as many of us have, to just fold on the GPU. They are MUCH more efficient at folding, don't dump as much heat into your case (and CPU), and can actually negatively affect your total PPD.

As @Captainmarino said, CPU folding doesn't earn much.
I found the easiest way to contend with this is under
Power Options / Processor power management / Maximum processor state /
set to 99% instead of 100%.
This makes the CPU run at stock speed with no boost, you can still fold on the CPU but it will be much cooler and a little slower.

I decided for my birthday which is the Jan 10th I want to celebrate it by doing something I love. I have not celebrated my birthday in over a decade, but for this upcoming birthday, I am asking you all to party with me in the way we like best, through folding! LTT event was so kind to offer a few LTTStore discount codes to make it all the more fun.

The event will run from my birthday the 10th for one week, so until the 16th.

This event will NOT be eligible for F@H event badges.

Folding@home is a network of volunteer computers distributed around the world that aims to perform biomedical research with the single intent of helping to further understand and develop cures for a range of diseases such as; Alzheimer's, cancer, and Parkinson's. The exact research that is done is simulating the 'folding' of proteins in the body, this is important because the function of a protein id directly related to its physical shape. And this, when the protein is created in the body it needs to reshuffle its shape to get into the correct structure to perform its task. Many illnesses can be linked to faulty proteins in the body such as many cancers and neurological issues, along with a wide number of other general health concerns.

If you are wondering what exactly has been done with all this computing power then you can check out the papers written by the scientists and researchers that use the folding network, I will warn you though many of them are very in-depth reads and in turn, this means they are often fairly technical.

    PASSKEYS! (they're really important)

Don't forget to get yourself a passkey from the link below to ensure that you hit the points requirement, the passkey is a feature that was added a while ago to the Folding Client that helps to authenticate each user on the network, an added bonus of this is the fact that it allows you to qualify for QRB(Quick Return Bonus) Points, QRBs are extra points you earn for submitting work units more quickly, such as if you have faster hardware or let the client fold full time, rather than on idle. QRB credit is awarded after 10 WUs have been submitted. You can get your passkey from the link below.

This is just a PSA for the new guys here, the folding team is a small close knit community, so here's a few things I'd like you all to keep in mind. It doesn't hurt to say thank you, if someone has genuinely helped you out don't forget to drop a reaction on their posts, help others where ever you can and finally we are a team first and always.

Check your stats out here! Bare in mind it can take some time for your first WUs to appear so leave it a day or two.

well.. if you vape like a normal person, and the room is well ventilated, worst scenario is that the dust in your pc is just a bit more sticky than normal.

on the flip side.. if you're "ripping fat clouds", no matter how well ventilated the room is, a noteworthy amount of that is gonna find it's way trough your computer and deposit over time.

from some real-world experience, a "clean person" smoker or vaper isnt as bad as "that type of customer" that "doesnt eat by their computer" but somehow dorito dust made it into the cooler.

I work at a big box tech store in the US and we expect less traffic every year. It's still the biggest sales event of the year in-store of course but now the sales are spread out across the entire month of November.

As of Friday you can almost all the same deals as on Black Friday, there may be a few unconfirmed sales to still come, but they are in full Black Friday mode already.

The amount of people asking me if there are going to be better prices on Black Friday is staggering, the general public is still adapting to Black Friday being a longer event than piling into stores all at once.

It works out for everyone, customers don't have to rush into the store for a free for all on sales, and the store can make that money.

At this point, shopping online and maybe setting your purchases for pickup is the way to go, but it is not worth it to go into the store and shop in real time unless you really want to experience it.. stores are not staffed enough to support good sales experiences for a majority of customers and a lot of the people that go into the store now are looking for a handholding experience.

My favorites are pretty much any root beer brand, Dr Pepper, and most Faygo flavors.

If you're unfamiliar with Faygo, it's a regional thing, highly recommend trying to order it one day, Rock & Rye is the bomb.
