it requires firmware installed before hand to work, at least the few times i have done it. i have never been able to put in a blank drive, and get it to work, but again, this could be different on the s.

    X99 is already DDR4 lol

Actually no, because 6xxx CPUs on LGA2011-3 can't overclock anymore due to an exploit. In games where single core performance matters, an overclocked 5930k wont be behind the 6900k or 6950X. Still not as good for productivity thogh

no.  A single generation upgrade is not worth it.

(Yeah, going from DDR3 to 4 and a couple other things would make it a bigger upgrade than most, but still not worth it.)

Edit:  The 7th Gen i9's that linus reviewed a bit ago may be worth it (Or at least closer to worth it) if you get a good Mobo price.  200ish bucks for the 8/16 i9 7820 is good.

You can't use the integrated graphics "alongside" the 970. You pick one or the other.

Years ago AMD had certain APU's and certain low-end graphics cards that would work together in Crossfire. Performance was mostly still abysmal and this idea has long since been dropped. There has never been anything comparable for Intel and Nvidia as far as I'm aware.

Aidanlockett1 reacted to Falcon1986 in PCI or M.2 Wifi?
If you’re talking about the variability in quality on an assembly line, that goes for any other product. Intel only makes 3 major WiFi 6 adapters for client devices, i.e. the same models I mentioned before. There’s not a whole bunch for them to intentionally make crappy ones for low budgets and high quality ones for those who want to spend more. These aren’t CPUs we’re talking about here.

There should be no difference in WiFi performance between a PCIe adapter and an M.2 adapter. Most PCIe adapters use an M.2 card adapted to a PCIe interface, and include antennae, whereas you’re left to sort the latter out yourself if you just get the M.2 card.

A lot of “WiFi” motherboards have integrated adapters, but if you examine them closely, they utilize cards that can be swapped out as well.

I mean but intel makes various Wifi 6/6E NICs, and some of them have got to be higher quality than others. I just wouldn't trust a NIC that cheap to have the good model inside.

Aidanlockett1 reacted to Nathanpete in PCI or M.2 Wifi?
M.2 uses PCIe, so you just have the hard time of cabling the antennas if you go that route. The performance difference is going to be mostly by how shit the intel NIC is, seeing that is claims to support Wi-Fi 6 for only $23. That is really low for a NIC like this and I would pony up for something at least $35. Also make sure reviews are good. Both customer and professional reviews. Wi-Fi NICs aren't in high demand so you have plenty of time to do your research on high-quality but cheap PCIe or M.2 wi-fi NICs.

Cheap fans means you lose out on everything. Noise, actually good airflow direction, longevity, and more. When it comes to cheap fans it is amazing how much of a difference $5 makes.

Aidanlockett1 reacted to Chris Pratt in Cheap Fans for Meshify C
Assuming you're not paying for things like RGB, the majority of the cost difference in fans is covered by quality, including lower noise/better performance at lower noise levels.

The fans you found may be fine to run at 100%, for example, but may not have any near enough cooling potential running them at like 50%. You're also more likely to hear them at the same fan speeds of higher quality fans. Then, of course, they could potentially die sooner than higher quality fans, leading to the age old question of whether it's better to spend more money once, or less money more often.

Long and short, they may be just fine, but (again, discounting things like RGB), there's generally not huge markup in fans. You pay for what you get, and there will be a difference in longevity, noise, performance, or all three.

I agree with @For Science!, Arctic P12 are amazing fans, they're cheap and can easily keep up with Noctua's (few % worse usually). I just bought a few of them in a pack, and the PST ones can be daisy-chained on 1 header without getting a splitter.

Apple said 2,9x the Performance in "Rise of the Tomb Raider" (probably native, not emulated) compared to previous Intel IGP.
But big Problem: No more Windows (no Bootcamp, no VM), and no eGPU support.
As long a Game is available for MacOS, it should run.

Also interesting, the Geekbench leak: https://www.macrumors.com/2020/11/11/m1-macbook-air-first-benchmark/
I know, it's "just" Geekbench, not the best, realistic benchmark, but on par or beats the 8-Core 16 Threads Notebook Chips from Intel AND AMD.

    I Hope Cinebench comes soon.

Well, MacOS (Big Sur) will be native.

However, Software like Adobe, Microsoft Office, Affinity Photo, and whatever you could use, will run MUCH better, if the developer optimized it for the ARM Architecture (instead of x86_64 with Intel Chips).
For Software, that isn't optimized yet, a Translater called "Rosetta 2" will be used, which will be a performance hit. However, There it wouldn't be surprising, if the new M1 Chips will be so fast compared to the last one, that they will emulate Software better, than the Intel models run them natively.

For some things, this already is the case, like graphic stuff (where the new Chips can hit 5-6x the Performance).

Exact Numbers are yet to be tested next week, but yea... you can pretty much expect more performance, less power consumption, more battery life, cheaper price.
Oh yea, and you can run iPad and iPhone Apps native too, which should not work on Intel Chips.

For sure, and thank you. I feel like investing in a 512 gb ssd as opposed to the 256 would be the move. As more storage never hurts and I double I will use more than 6 gb of ram at a time.

Yeah, you can upgrade it to an i7-4770K or if budget is tight, i5-4690K, and better upgrade your 1050Ti to a 580 or 1060. btw, cooler temperature or appearance?

it depends on your prefrences, since your probably used to 4k by now, I would wait for a high end 4k monitor to release just because 1440p might look a little worse, but its your decision about resolution. I know the predator x34 is a very good panel though.

np, i would personally suggest a crucial 2.5 inch 275gb ssd because you get about 240/250 gbs of free space for games (os and formatting takes some) for about 100 bucks its a steal and its a good quality ssd
