Precept reacted to BondiBlue in Gamers Nexus alleges LMG has insufficient ethics and integrity
I haven't finished watching the entire video yet, but I did watch the section regarding the Billet Labs prototype cooler being sold at LTX, and that's very disturbing if true. I hope that LMG explains how this happens, and I hope they don't try to chalk it up to some communication issue or something. Selling a prototype that you didn't have permission to sell is disgusting already, but doing so after agreeing twice to return the unit to the company that owns it is even worse.
If the thing with the Billet Labs cooler is true then I'm not sure how Linus or anyone at LMG could possibly make up for such a bad decision. This is coupled with the inaccurate testing of the product that made it seem terrible.
Personally I completely agree about LMG rushing things far too often. I've been watching LTT for around a decade, and as the company has grown and grown the quality of the content hasn't increased at the same rate. The inaccuracies are more frequent than ever, and it's something that the leadership doesn't seem to care about fixing. I really hope LMG addresses some of these issues.

"We can't spend a few hundred bucks to make sure we're not irreparably damage a companies reputation"
Seriously? To make 100% sure before you fuck over a startup you can't spend an hour or two to double check your results?
And then you SOLD the block at an auction causing them to be stalled as they no longer have their best prototype! What the absolute fuck????

Precept reacted to RobLatour in Not too happy about the Verified Actual Gamer Program
So I know Linus Tech is just trying to do good - but from where I stand they aren't.
I'm a LT youtube subscriber, but more to the point also a developer who writes shareware and (mostly) freeware who is trying to build a new machine in support of that.
Wouldn't mind a decent graphics card to go with it, but you know what ... scalpers, miners, and now LT are scooping up all the cards, while at the same time some short sighted retailers have done some silly things along the way.
Also, just to be clear, I have never bought, sold or mined crypto coins.
Having that said, I know LT is trying to help gamers beat out scalpers and miners - but there are those of us who aren't gamers, scalpers or miners - and we are people too.
I have no solutions, I'm just saying.
Thanks for listening, I feel better now!

Precept reacted to Jurrunio in Vermeer (Ryzen 5000) Memory/Fabric Potential
that's not me then, I never manage to get RAM usage above 12GB unless I delibrately try break it (memtest most of it, for example)
of course then there's this, fresh out of tech Jesus
so 2x16gb may eventually make more sense to me, just not for capacity reasons

Precept reacted to RejZoR in Vermeer (Ryzen 5000) Memory/Fabric Potential
To extend on this, DDR or Double Data Rate means memory does data transfer on both electrical swings of the clock cycle (lows and peaks as the signal fluctuates similar to heart sine wave). So, DDR4-3600 actually operates at 1800MHz, but effectively does same work as it would at 3600MHz if transfers only happened on clock peaks as it's common with SDR (Single Data Rate). So, Zen 3 can peak at 2000MHz on its internal memory controller and to achieve peak performance, RAM should also operate at that speed to achieve 1:1 ratio (both memory controller and RAM running at same speed). And to achieve that you'd need DDR4-4000 which is actually a 2000MHz memory.
SDR = Single Data Rate = Clock you see is the actual clock
DDR = Double Data Rate = Advertised clock is actually a 2x of actual operational clock (and actual speed is actually 2x at that clock)
QDR = Quad Data Rate = More common on graphic cards as GDDR5 memory, advertised clock is 4x of actual operational clock (and actual speed is actually 4x at that clock)
This image is a good explainer how memory works and why the difference between advertised and actual clocks as it's doing more work on single clock cycle (every step is one cycle).

AMD 3600 and a good B450 motherboard I would partner with those parts. Get a quality PSU too.

3200 cl16 is fine. Robert mentions theres a 1% between 3600 cl15 and it. And the cost is just not worth it. Get a good reliable 3200 cl16 and don't worry any further.

Were the benchmarks using the 512mb graphics memory allocation or cranked up to the max 2gb?

So.... You want a 30% (max) faster computer, over your bank account when a malicious javascript can view your passwords? And the hassle of potentially every account you own being compromised

Precept reacted to Tokeegee in I need some advice
Save a bit more money and get a skylake/kaby lake i3 6100/7100, it will perform about on par with the 6300, but will give you much more room for an upgrade when the time comes, the 6300 is way too outdated for modern gaming. My old rig had an 8350 and even that overclocked to 4.4 GHZ wasn't performing well. FX CPU's aren't for gaming anymore, but can be used for other lighter tasks.

Precept reacted to RADEON_GUY in Oculus only using iGPU
Since i'm bored and depressed rn, I'll tell you the story. The story of a 15 year old amd fanboy. We'll call him Ray. Ray built his first gaming pc in summer 2015. He was proud of it. It had an i5 4460 and an r9 270. He then switched to a GTX 970 in November 2015. He saw the light. That was Ray's first high end gpu. He joined the green team. BUT WAIT. Ray already had a ltt forums account, from his AMD days. So he decided to be the mother of all irony. He changed his pic to an Nvidia logo. And it stayed like that until now, and it will stay like that forever. Confusing people far and wide.

Precept reacted to nicklmg in EXPOSING DEADMAU5's STUDIO - *SPOILER* He's a huge Geek!
Yeah... I'm sure it was some stuffy old person at Ferrari that made that call, and I guess from their perspective I kinda understand it if they have literally no context for who he is and what he does, but the proper response in that case would be to get to know him and learn to appreciate with it's actually good for their brand to have the Purrari be a thing rather than send a C&D letter...
They turned what could've been an amazing strategic "partnership" with one of the biggest performing artists in the world into a gigantic case of bad press for them. Just goes to show that "sticking to tradition" is a way of the past in many cases...

Precept got a reaction from Anas Dweik in 2 fast questions
1. Just put voltage in auto if your asking to get back to stock values. I think it can vary slightly between CPUs? Hangs around 1.275 ish to 1.3v
2. Doesn't matter a whole lot, just get a non conductive (electrical) thermal paste from a well known supplier (Artic, Cooler master etc). Cooler supplied paste is also ok if its not the paste supplied on the stock cpu coolers

Precept reacted to LinusTech in Anyone Looking for a Linus Tech Tips Beanbag Chair?
They include the fill. We needed ~20 and it was literally cheaper to buy 50 from a volume seller in China than to buy 20 locally.
So we figured we'd just flip the remaining ones at about the price we paid.
To the people insinuating that we're gouging people plz show me the listing for where you can buy something like this cheaper. They're really nice.
