About windows 7. Since your getting new mobo and processor and such more likely then not Windows will see it as a different pc and there for not activate. However in my experience a quick phone call to Microsoft will remedy that issue. 
About the cpu/mobo issue. I personally would go the i3 route with an B150 or H110 due to upgrade paths still available. He could still get a nice i7 down the road like a i7 6500 and not be stuck with an extremely out dated chipset.

It will work great and crush 1080p gaming. Power supply is a bit stronger then you need but not over kill. Good build imo

The only thing that might get meaningful,y replaced there is the gpu. If I were you Id go for the full build, cheap out on a secondhand 760 or some shit and wait for vega/1080ti.

It had literally everything you could think of, the most obscure artists, the rarest vinyl rips in 24bit Flac. And it was exclusively used by Music lovers, which anecdotally I can safely say supported Music with their wallets too.

In my first build I purchased a second hand mobo. Didn't have the manual for it and THOUGHT I found it online. Couldn't get the Damn thing to post.  I swapped out psu, RMA the cpu, new one had same issue. Ended up selling off system for total loss gave up on building my own and purchased pre-built system with pretty much identical specs for about 50% more $.  About 3 months later bumped into guy I sold it to and he told me what was wrong. I had the power switch connected to the HDD led indicator on the front panel pins. So power button didn't do squat. I can LOL about it now but boy was I pissed.

2) You are using 2 80mm fans to cool everything ? It will be LOUD and run hot. I would personally use no less the  4 120mm fans. And that depends on your setup such as how far apart each part is. Keep on mind smaller fans run faster and louder.

I've never done a B150 build myself. But looking at it looks better then H110 (I have done those) but not quite H170 (I have done 1 H170) the H110 uses PCI-E gen 2.0 and only 14 PCI-E lanes where as B110 uses PCI-E gen 3.0 and 18 PCI-E lanes. The I3 6100 supports 16 PCI-E lanes as does the gtx 1050ti. But other then that what specific compatability are you speaking of?

It could be done slightly cheaper, but I've gone for parts I know, haven't skimped on a terrible PSU, and opted for a wireless capable MB. 

In CEATEC Japan 2016, the Japanese equivalent of CES, Sharp revealed a prototype 27" 8K HDR IGZO monitor. 
 

 

 
The monitor, which was placed in the IGZO corner of the Sharp booth, is a HDR IGZO IPS monitor, with a resolution of 7,680 × 4,320, pixel density of 326ppi, and a refresh rate of 120Hz. With that refresh rate , and the cables cluster on the back of the monitor, it probably would required more than one displayport/hdmi cables to run the monitor.
 

 

 
Unfortunately the monitor is still in prototype stage, and it would be expensive, as it was aimed at business professionals. Also no words on when it will hit the market.

*update: I did a little digging, and it seems this monitor was already shown back in IFA 2016, with a different chassis color ( the one shown in IFA was all black). And according to a German tech site Hardware Journal, it requires 16 HDMI inputs to run this monitor (probably becoz it is a prototype, and I hope Google translate is correct here).

i have pretty much the same question. Are there cheaper alternatives to the rode podcaster (doesn't have to be usb, i have an audio interface), but it should have a stand with it. (up to 100$)
