ZeRedz got a reaction from Slayerking92 in How does one properly use a ratchet screwdriver for screwing screws into motherboard standoffs?
I can't seem to get it right, but I have to resort to using my ratchet screwdriver like a manual screwdriver because I can't seem to figure out how to make the screwdriver rotate. I know this is a really really dumb question, but has anyone ever had this problem?

until the screw has some friction on it (which naturally happens as you tighten it) you just have to hold the stem of the screwdriver when you rotate backwards either with your other hand, or just adjust your grip to pinch the stem a bit.

Are you using an extension or straight into the wall?
Is it a very old housing? Try another socket etcetc

psu -> mobo, could be a bad port on motherboard connected or in contact with it. although unsure, since the case is fine?
are you using a lot in the back port?

it could be that your extension isnt well grounded, has nothing to do with surge protection

i recommend you try plugging your computer directly into the wall to test if it's still happening, that the extension isnt grounded and not your house wiring (which would require an electrician to fix)

i dont recommend running your PSU without a ground as it's a safety hazard, not just because it can shock you, but I read somewhere that OCP (over current protection) wont work if there's no ground connected, which is quite concerning.

sure, but who knows it might be non-grounded too

i found out that 2 of my 4 extensions arent well grounded when i tested with a multimeter

    Oi mate!

Type G is used in UK so I assume you live there.

You can try to test your socket by yourself, BUT ON YOUR OWN RISK!!! If you have never anything to do with electricity stop reading.

Take a multimeter, set it to 500 or more volts AC and check outlet as it is shown below. There are 3 point of contact. Live, neutral and ground. As I show below in first part, when there is connection between live and neutral there should be 240V in UE, 120 V in US, etc.
Second part is between ground and neutral, there should be no voltage.
And last part between live and ground. It should be exactly or almost exactly the same. If there is any major difference there is problem with your ground.

Another common problem is shorting neutral and ground in outlets(yes some idiots do this). But to check that you need to turn off breakers, check with multimeter if there is no more electricity in your outlet and unscrew it. There should be 3 cables connected to the outlet.

Or you can call British version of Brian the electrician 🙂

I'd say this is a symptom of poor grounding; when you touch it when you're barefoot, the PC uses you as a lead to ground.
What's type G? The socket or the plug?

    Plastic earth lead?
If not, check to see if the small tabs on the I/O shield are not poking into ports.

What power plug/socket do you have/use? Like @Velcade mentioned, it's probably due to poor grounding, so it's being grounded through you.

it can short things? I mean it could turn off your PC depending on where you get the shock/static buildup from. (just don't do this on an SSD or so, and it will be a goner?). What is your specs, and like what PSU do you have?

Grounding issue.  Either your outlet or your PSU.

I called my friend, real electrician. Turns out i'm an idiot 🙂 yes TN-C is allowed and used in old type electrical system.
There are numbers of problems with it and one if it can actually cause some voltage on ground pin.

He also suggest dry air during winter may cause charging of your body and that may cause sparks towards grounded equipment like computer case.

in term of surge protection, it might be at higher risk if it's during a thunderstorm, but your computer's PSU should have good protection for the rest of your components in place if it's a good unit. you can just plug it in to test for the time being, if it no longer shocks you then it's probably the extension and you can get it replaced.

in term of non-grounded, depends if it's your extension or the house wiring that is faulty

The socket itself is type G. The plug is a 3-pin.

Sure, I'll send'em an email. Also, concerning the mains voltage here, it isn't 230 exactly. It ranges from 220 to 240.
