I actually updated the bios to the karat version just prior to reading your reply. Seems to have fixed the issue up to this point. All the drivers I have installed related to the chipset are all from gigabytes website for the board.

It appears the Bios update resolved the issue.

Just to follow up, my PC remained off all day yesterday after I disabled 'Wake on Lan' and enabled the ERP settings to tuen my USB ports off while it is in shutdown. So far, so good. I will continue to monitor this through out the weekend. If it doesn't boot back up by itself over the next few days, I am going to assume one of these two BIOS settings fixed the issue.

    Thanks for the reply!

Okay guys, UPDATE in case others have this same issue as I did. On the Tom's Hardware forum that was also me that was included in the reply here, someone found the cause of the issue. I have the Gadget8pack installed on my systems. It's the old school sidebar Windows gadgets that allows you to monitor things and have gadgets on your desktop. The network monitoring gadget was hitting an outdated site that was trying to pull a script with it. I have attached a screen shot of the person's reply that found the issue.

There is an updated version of the gadgets app, and it apparently has solved the issue.

You can also hit up the forum thread directly here at this link and read the full response:

    Hi everyone.

I am having an odd issue. I been chasing a trojan threat that seems to be changing/popping back up on a regular basis, but it's not being detected with Maleware bytes scans or manual Windows Defender scans. But windows Defender warns me about it on and off at random times. Every time I remove it, it stays gone for a while, but then randomly comes back at another time. I went a couple days this time without seeing it, but now it is back. This is happening on both my Windows 11 laptop and my Windows 11 desktop. They are both set up similar, as I run a small project studio for audio and video work, and this has been an issue on both systems.

The threat pops up as a Trojan. Defender shows it as Trojan:JS/KryptoStealer.GA!MSR

It's always located in the same hidden folder, but the ending of the file is always different.

file: C:\Users\myusername\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\INetCache\IE\  is the location it is always in. The actual file name changes though. The latest one was found just a little bit ago and was listed as this:

    file: C:\Users\myusername\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\INetCache\IE\6XDAO3K1\U5O2133D.htm

Other ones have popped up as well, but the  file right before the.htm is always different. The list below shows an example of this.

    file: C:\Users\myusername\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\INetCache\IE\6XDAO3K1\U5O2133D.htm
    file: C:\Users\myusername\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\INetCache\IE\6ZXV3TKU\R5H1U6Y1.htm
    file: C:\Users\myusername\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\INetCache\IE\Q85R5FAZ\DA67D5YO.htm

The only suggestions I have been offered was on another forum and it was to nuke and pave my system (reinstall Windows). I have a TON of production software with licenses and settings I would rather not un-register and re-install if I can avoid it. I just can't seem to find much details on what I should do.

When I do a Maleware bytes scan on my system, nothing pops up. If I do a Full Windows Defender scan after removing the threat, nothing pops up. It seems to come back at random times. Any ideas what is causing this and how I can remove it permanently? Digging into it online a bit, it appears to be a web browser bring the file in. I use Firefox mostly, but I also use Chrome and Edge for certain tasks. I have used Bleachbit to clean out cache and history on all the browsers, but that doesn't seem to help.

Any suggestions would be great. Thanks  in advance for any replies.

I have a feeling that you are a novice PC user if you are asking which OS you should get. In this case, I would go with either Windows or a Mac. I am not an Apple user, so I personally would lean towards Windows.

I do a lot of production style work. Video and audio editing, recording bands, analog tapes to digital file conversions, ect. But I also do some PC gaming through Steam. I use Windows because there are pieces of hardware I need for analog tape capturing that only work under Windows. Not to mention I have been a Windows user since Windows '98 and it is what I know best. I just don't have time to mess with Linux or other OS options. I don't always like the choices Microsoft makes with it's products, but sometimes you just got to deal with it to get things done. Sometimes, user like us in the community make enough noise that Microsoft makes the changes we want. Other times, we conform to what they offer. That's bit tech in general though.

If you are not real experienced with do-it-yourself computer options, I would go with Windows or a Mac. But again, what you plan on using the PC for will play a big roll in what you should run. Good luck!

Sounds like a memory issue, sometimes AGESA update makes memory support worse.

I'd recommend doing custom timings with ryzen dram calculator if you need the faster ram.

The Gigabyte rep didn't say if a Bios update would or wouldn't fix it. They have released a new bios as of yesterday. I am always on the fence about installing them because everything else appears to be working fine. However, with it being a new Ryzen setup, I know the platform still has some maturing to do as Den-Fi mentioned. So I am always on the fence about whether or not I should be updating.

I haven't fully tested if enabling the Erp has fixed this issue. Right now, I can only assume it has because the last several times I have done a full shutdown, it's booted itself back up within 20 minuets. After I enabled Erp, I shut down for over an hour and it stayed off, but I have video work to do today so I had to boot back up. So far so good, though. I guess I can feel more confident that it's fixed if I walk into the room tomorrow morning and it's still off after my shut down later tonight.

Gigabyte tech support suggested to enable Erp mode in the Bios because one of my devices assisted to be triggering the power on state. After enabling it, my computer remains off since my last shut down over an hour ago. Usually it kicks back on within the first 15 minuets. So far, this has solved my problem.

Liberty610 reacted to Obraxis in Will my kraken x62 block any of the ram slots?
I had the same issue with the same board the Gigabyte X399 and the X62. The RAM slots on the board are just too close to the socket. I also like having the NZXT logo correct orientation as it looks more professional (and lets face it, when you're spending this kind of money on a system, ANYTHING that isnt right should be worth your time).

I ended up returning the 64GB (8 sticks) for 64GB (4 sticks) so I could fit the cooler. My thought is that NZXT or some other AIO water cooler might release a new Threadripper edition, and I can upgrade to that later and I would then have access to the empty RAM slots for upgrade.

@asand1 Some people like some things correct. Sure, if this system was for a cheap gaming system then having the logo off would be fine. But in a professional setting or selling a system to clients, details matter. Clearly, they don't matter to you, but they do matter to others. Especially with this kind of cost and system longevity.

OK, I'll try to explain this simply, as I am usually long-winded, lol.

I wouldn't bother with memtest unless you keep getting errors, not just in one program mind as that could more likely be a software problem. So if possible run a stress test, or just re-code some video etc with handbrake etc... that should give you a baseline of whether there are actual problems with the ram or not.

If you do decide to do a memtest anyway, you can run all sticks if you like, then if you get errors, can start testing stick by stick on the same slot. And lastly, if you get no errors on the stick by stick test, but still had errors on the all stick test, run any stick, in slot by slot.
That's how I always did it, to get the best time efficient tests.

So, I'm excited to report that my motherboard and threadripper are coming tomorrow as long as there are no issues with Delivery!!!

Small hiccup though here, I just realized today that my current ram isn't on my motherboard's support list. So I was kind of wondering if that will be an issue? I thought it was on there, but the last couple letters of the model number on the support list are different then mine.

My current ram is DDR4 quad channel, and the board takes it. But I wasn't sure that with AMD Threadripper being kinda new if I should get supported modules.

    THis is my Ram:

And again, this is my board:
    https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813145030

If it is recommended to get memory officially supported by the motherboard list, I find this kit that is supported, and is faster. I can swing it in my budget if I need to, but I am just not sure if it is necessary. This kit is faster though, and has RGB, which kinda tickles my geek fancy a bit.... but is it needed?

If I should get the ram kit, I have a couple hours to order it and get it her by Saturday from Amazon.

I'm kinda of a geek/enthusiast overall with a pretty flexible budget, but I do work in streaming and Full HD video editing. I have a FUll HD Sony NX100 video camera. Do wedding videos, party/event coverage, ect. The Videos are 50mbps files at 1080p 60fps.

am always looking at faster render times in Vegas Pro and Handbreak, and I am starting to do live streaming content during some gaming sessions. From the research I have done online, the threadripper CPUs look like they are going to be a big deal for content creators. I also do a good amount of gaming, but I know gaming won't utilize this CPU much, but like I said, I am into content creating and I am just an interested enthusiast.

the options that affected my framerate the most were: high resolution shadows (in advanced settings) and msaa (in normal settings). also i got v-sync on but i get a stable 60fps, if i turn it off i get even 100+ sometimes, remember i have a 1070 so your 1080 will do even better.

in advanced graphics the frame scaling mode is way up there. it now produces 2.5 times the 3440x1440. put it back to 1 or off or what the normal is. that should fix it. then you can also turn up the other settings. i can post a screen shot of my settings with my 1070 if you want, with almost everything maxed
