  1. Update: My router works just fine with Midco, they just added the MAC address like any other ISP would have.
  2. In the case that it gets bricked, is the CM1000 a good modem to buy? I mean if i'm going to get one, it doesn't have to be a Netgear product. Any Suggestions?
  3. That's what I was thinking. I haven't heard great things about Midco already...this just makes it more apparent. I guess I'll try to pass it off as a CM1000. Thanks for the affirmation.
  4. Hello LTT Community, I've recently moved and have to switch ISPs. I used to have xFinity which was great but now I am in a more rural area and have to go with a company called Midco. I bought a cheaper used modem to use with xFinity and only really need a plan of 100-300mbps. So I bought a Netgear CM500. Anyways, Midco says that modem is not compatible with their system which I find hard to believe. Here is their list of compatible modems. https://www.midco.com/support/internet/modems/approved-modems/ So my question is this: Can I simply say that the modem I have is a CM1000 (a modem they approved) when it is really a CM500 or will there genuinely be problems when that is the case? Thanks all in advance.
  5. I believe that did it! I changed DNS 1 to 8.8.8.8 and everything seems to be working. If I change my DNS in the future, do you expect any issues to arise?
  6. @Eigenvektor Yes I do get a gateway of 192.168.1.1 and no, I don't appear to be getting any DNS servers
  7. @Eigenvektor So I reset my router (Linksys WRT1200AC). I changed my internet settings to static IP of 192.168.0.2 as I did before--with default gateway of 192.168.0.1 (the rented router/modem). My local network says it is still at 192.168.1.1 and has DHCP running. I can access my personal router via a wifi connection but it does not have access to the internet. If I use a wire from my personal router to my pc, I can access the internet. My wireless IP is a 192.168.1.x and my wired IP is 192.168.0.x So that holds up. Any ideas why I cannot access the internet from my personal router over wifi? (The one that assigns IP of 192.168.1.x)
  8. Thank you so much for this detailed response, I was not aware of the two IP addresses. I was not able to access my router via cable, so I am going to try a factory reset and keep DHCP on as you suggested as well.
  9. Hello LTT Community, I've decided to get into some home networking solutions in order to have more control over my network. I recently moved and am only staying for a few months. The house I am currently at is renting a cable/modem combo from their provider and I also have my own configured router. I am hoping to connect my own router to the rented one to use my own network and configured router. I followed this guide: https://forums.tomshardware.com/threads/how-to-connect-and-have-two-separate-networks-with-1-modem-and-2-routers.1472279/. But as I changed my own router's settings to a static IP of 1 higher than the default gateway of the rented router as well as disabling DHCP on the new router, I cannot re-connect to it. It gives off my wi-fi signal and I can connect to the internet fine, but when I try to re-connect to my own router, it cannot find it. Rented router IP: 192.168.0.1 Personal router IP: 192.168.0.2 (is what I hope to have changed it to, but cannot connect to it) It used to be 192.168.1.1 I'd appreciate any help in this situation as I am hoping to get into my own router and change the DNS settings for it once again. Sorry If I haven't given enough information as all this networking is so new to me.
  10. Ended up buying a used 580 4gb card for $80 USD. We'll see how it performs after buying a 2x6 pin to 8 pin adapter for my power supply. Thanks for the suggestion
  11. Good thing to know about the LGA 2011 potential upgrades. I'll check out the 1070s if I am looking to future proof, but a 570 for immediate usage.
  12. Great, so you would recommend a used 580 8gb over the 1650 super? Would power consumption be an issue between the two as I know the 580 is more power hungry and my Power supply is a bit dated and hard to swap out. But thanks for the 1070 suggestion, i'll definitely look into that as well.
  13. Good point, I forgot to add my budget of $150-200.
  14. Hello LTT Community, Once again I have come to ask you all for help. I have been out of the graphics card game for awhile now and am looking for some expertise on what to match with my old Xeon workstation. This is roughly the same as my unit: https://www.amazon.com/HP-Z420-E5-1620-Windows-Workstation/dp/B00ZARDDUW Right now I am only using the unit as a Media server but am looking into doing some gaming on it. The most demanding titles I am hoping to play are COD: Modern Warfare, The Witcher 3, and other esports titles at 1080p. Some notes on my unit: 600W Proprietary PSU...can't swap out Xeon e5-1620 32GB RAM SSD and HDD I also am wondering whether or not to get a graphics card that I can eventually use in a new build I am planning for in two or so years as a sort of investment for the future. OR should I just get a card that will work for the system now and buy new again when that time comes around? Looking for suggestions between used and new. RX 580 8gb, RX 570 8GB, 1060 6GB, 1650 Super 4GB etc. Thanks! Edit: Budget is $150-200
  15. Wow I guess I never knew that, thanks! Would you recommend a simple cable or a display port cable with hdmi adapter?
