hyperj123 got a reaction from wildgg in 8600k Overclock Questions
@wildthing Just installed the Noctua D-15. Without delidding I'm hitting 5GHZ @ 1.375. Max temps under Aida64 load for 15 minutes is 72 C. This Cooler is a monster. Thank you!

i used Permatex black silicone, did not come with the kits.
one thing to note here is that don't use to much silicone as this will create a gap between the CPU DIE and IHS.
most people don't reseal it and use the motherboard to clamp everything together.
Noctua D15 performance the same as a 240mm AIO if not better in some cases

7 year old higher end CPU, 1 year old mid ranged GPU, that CPU when new cost the same as your GPU new. With that GPU you are as set as you are gunna get, if you want 3 to 5 years down the road, upgrade in 2 or 3 years except upgrade cpu and gpu. I kept those cpu's for many years(untill the 7700k) and the difference was negligible till my 2600k died and I gave away my 2500k to a friend. Just trying to let you know how I wasted my money and don't want you to make the same mistake.

Hang on...... If you are playing like a jet sim. Would having your pc sound like a jet be a good thing?

I currently game at 1080P and I plan on staying at 1080p for a long time maybe 2 to 3 years. I have a GTX 1060 6 gigabyte model from Asus.

So I was not as big into pc gaming as I was a few years back but I recently have been getting back into it. I bought a computer about a year ago at a garage sale for 50 bucks and it had a partially dead motherboard (some USBs didn't work and the vga port was ripped off???). So I buy a cheap motherboard from Amazon for like 50 bucks. I clean off the thermal paste and there it was i5-2500k I was like oh wow. I didn't have the money to get a Z77 motherboard just enough to to get a gpu so I went with a GTX 960 SSC so I had an upgrade path (SLI etc...). Well just last week I found on craigslist a Z77 Extreme 4 Motherboard by asrock and and decided to pick up an NZXT case and a hyper 212 Evo. I'm now successfully over clocked to 4.8ghz and staying under 70 degrees on a synthetic load. Just thought I would share my adventure with this beast and I'm so glad I went to that garage sale. Hahaha

Intel states that the CPU's thermal limit is 72.6°C and you're below that. I've seen quite a few Sandy CPUs run in the high 80s or even in the 90s for extended periods of time and survive just fine.
You have nothing to worry about really.

Fantastic overclock. It is very cool to see people achieving such high overclocks with older cpu's and being able to squeeze out more performance out of it.

hyperj123 reacted to GoodBytes in Thoughts on "Gaming Mode"
Microsoft said that it is marginal gain for Win32 games. The focus was far for UWP made games to bring give them a much needed performance boost. UWP has more layers between it and hardware than Win32. While we don't have a game that is both Win32 and UWP, I think it is safe to assume that the big goal is to bring UWP games closer to Win32 games performance wise.
Microsoft said that they will continue to work on Game Mode even after the Creator Update is released bringing, or at least try to bring, additional performance to both Win32 and UWP.
